They should know how not to be beastly to one another for the over 30 hours a week they’re spending at school.‎ At my daughter’s school, there are various awards for academic and sporting achievements, but they save the best random rewards for acts of kindness, like going out of one’s way to help a teacher clean up or helping other kids. I’ve found this to be common among many schools in our area.‎ As nice as it is to have schools reinforce social sharing and contribution, I’ve found that they don’t have a hand in much of the important emotional intelligence things: how a kid deals with friction(不合,摩擦), conflicts, social sacrifice, and so on. They teach these kinds of things and provide examples, but they don’t have the resources to monitor them or know the children well enough to see if they are developing them properly in practice. Talking through these things softly and in private in times of little or no stress seems to be more effective than it would be for a teacher to talk in front of a group of other’s kids. In this way, you can have neutral(中立的), peer-level conversations with your kid about the benefits of socially responsible actions that don’t come across as authoritative of achievement—based.‎ One challenge with teaching the “good members of society” thing is that unlike some other things, this really has to be modeled. However, it’s expected that your kid will be exposed to some choices for learning art, music, sports, or something that you’re not into, basic values like kindness can’t just be taught — they have to be seen and understood. Even then, the benefits are not obvious and have to be both explained and experienced.‎ Beyond the basics, I’d assume that motivating kids toward some kind of organized social efforts in school would be pretty controversial. Nevertheless(虽然如此), many schools do this but stop recommending this as part of life’s work.‎ ‎21.What does the author think of the schools’ emotional intelligence education?‎ ‎ A. It’s hopeless. B. It’s scientific C. It’s practical. D. It’s not enough.‎ ‎22.What is the proper method of teaching basic values according to the author?‎ A. Modeling and experiencing. B. Giving a detailed description.‎ C. Talking with kids in private. D. Preparing more courses in values.‎ ‎23.What would be the best title for the text?‎ A. What is more important in schools? B. What lessons benefit students most?‎ C. How can students be taught effectively? D. Should schools reinforce lesson in value?‎ B Parents should stop blaming themselves because there’s not a lot they can do about it. I mean ‎ the teenager problem. Whatever you do or however you choose to deal with it, at certain times a wonderful, reasonable and helpful child will turn into a terrible animal. ‎ I’ve seen friends deal with it in all kinds of different ways. One strict mother insisted that her son, right from a child, should stand up whenever anyone entered the room, open doors and shake hands like a gentleman. I saw him last week when I called round. Sprawling himself(懒散地躺) on the sofa in full length, he made no attempt to turn off the loud TV he was watching as I walked in, and his greeting was no more than a quick glance at me. His mother was ashamed. “I don’t know what to do with him these days,” she said, “He’s forgotten all the manners we taught him.”‎ He hasn’t forgotten them. He’s just decided that he’s not going to use them. She confessed(坦白) that she would like to come up behind him and throw him down from the sofa onto the floor. ‎ Another good friend of mine let her two daughters climb all over the furniture, reach across the table, stare at me and say,“I don’t like your dress; it’s ugly.” One of the daughters has recently been driven out of school. The other has left home. ‎ ‎“Where did we go wrong?” her parents are now very sad. Probably nowhere much. At least no more than the rest of that unfortunate race, parents.‎ ‎24.This text is most probably written by ________.‎ A.a specialist in teenager studies B. a headmaster of a middle school C. a parent with teenage children D. a doctor for mental health problems ‎25. The boy on the sofa would most probably be described as_______.‎ A. lazy B. quiet C. unusual D. rude ‎26. From the second example we can infer that the parents of the two daughters _____.‎ A. pay no attention to them B. are too busy to look after them C. have come to hate them D. feel helpless to do much about them ‎27. What is the author’s opinion about the sudden change in teenage children?‎ A. Parents have no choice but to try to accept it.‎ B. Parents should pay still more attention to the change.‎ C. Parents should work more closely with school teachers.‎ D. Parents are at fault for the change in their children.‎ C Mass communication has been growing and affecting the way communities and people behave. At every stage of the development of communication, from the telegraph to the Internet, societies have had to adapt to its effects. But have the effects been more positive or negative?‎ The saying “knowledge is power” has been an excellent motivator for people to improve their lives, but today the massive amount of information available through the Internet doesn't always seem to be helping people in the way we’d hoped. Rather than improving people’s lives and bringing us closer together, the information age is making us more divided and irresponsible.‎ Nevertheless, many people find comfort in their virtual (虚拟的) worlds and are happy to connect with real-life friends and online friends from the familiar surroundings of their living ‎ rooms. However, being able to reinvent themselves online and be whoever they want to be leads to the question of whether they are losing their identities by living in a virtual world. It's not all bad news, however. Mass communication has helped change some attitudes for the better. Take our views on the environment for example. Internet campaigns by governments and other organizations have helped popularize the ideas of recycling, protecting wildlife and reducing pollution.‎ Modern electronic communication now influences every aspect of our lives - it is a powerful tool that has raised some concerns for society. However, it has also brought countless benefits to society. At the end of the day, it can be used both for good or evil, which largely relies on the morals and sense of responsibility of the individual or community involved. In short, it needs to be used with care.‎ ‎28. According to the text, the information age today _____.‎ A. helps people improve their lives B. fully shows "Knowledge is power"‎ C. makes people feel more connected to others D. fails to achieve our expectations sometimes ‎29. What can we infer from Paragraph 3?‎ A. People only connect with online friends.‎ B. Online friends can be comforting for all people.‎ C. Virtual lives can make people clear of who they are. ‎ D. The Internet helps to raise our environmental awareness.‎ ‎30. What is the writer's attitude to electronic communication in the last paragraph?‎ A. It should be used in a cautious way. ‎ B. It does more harm than good to society.‎ C. Its side effects can't be handled by individuals.‎ D. It should be strictly controlled by the government. ‎ ‎31. What does the text mainly talk about?‎ A. The comfort of the virtual worlds. ‎ B. The effects of mass communication. ‎ C. The development of mass communication. ‎ D. The way to use modern mass communication. ‎ D ‎ You are enrolled in a full – time school called “life”. Each day in this school you will have the opportunity to learn lessons. You may like the lessons or hate them, but you have designed them as part of your curriculum.‎ ‎ Why are you here? What is your purpose? Humans have sought to discover the meaning of life for a very long time. What we and our ancestors have overlooked, however, is that there is no one answer. The meaning of life is different for every individual.‎ ‎ Each person has his or her own purpose and distinct path, unique and separate from anyone else’s. As you travel your life path, you will be presented with numerous lessons that you will need to learn in order to fulfill that purpose. The lessons you are presented with are specific to you; learning these lessons is the key to discovering and fulfilling the meaning and connection of your own life.‎ ‎ As you travel through your lifetime, you may encounter challenging lessons that others don’t have to face, while other spends years struggling with challenges that you don’t need to deal with. You may never know why you are blessed with a wonderful marriage, while your friends suffer through bitter arguments and painful divorces, just as you cannot be sure why you struggle financially while your peers enjoy abundance. The only thing you can count on for certain is that you will be presented with all the lessons that you specifically need to learn; whether you choose to learn them or not is entirely up to you.‎ ‎ The challenge here, therefore, is to align (与……保持一致) yourself with your own unique path by learning individual lessons. This is one of the most difficult challenges you will be faced with in your lifetime, as sometimes your path will be completely different from others’. But, remember, don’t compare your path to the people around you and focus on the difference between their lessons and yours. You need to remember that you will only be faced with lessons that you are capable of learning and are specific to your own growth.‎ ‎ Our sense of fairness is the expectation of equality – the assumption that all things are equal and justice will always prevail. Life is not, in fact, fair, and you may indeed have a more difficult life path than others around you, deserved or not. Everyone’s circumstances are unique, and everyone needs to handle his or her own circumstances differently. If you want to move toward calm, you will be required to move out of the complaining phase of “it’s not fair”. Focusing on the unfairness of circumstances keeps you comparing yourself with others rather than appreciating your own special uniqueness. You miss out on learning your individual lessons by distracting yourself with feelings of bitterness and anger.‎ ‎32. According to the passage, how can the meaning of your life be realized?‎ ‎ A. Having the same opinions as others.‎ ‎ B. Taking the distinct path from others.‎ ‎ C. Learning the lessons presented to you.‎ ‎ D. Doing the different things from others.‎ ‎33. What can we conclude from the passage ?‎ A. everyone has his own track to follow ‎ B. the same things usually happen to the peers ‎ C. a painful divorce must lie in financial problems ‎ D. a wealthy man must have a wonderful marriage ‎34. In your lifetime, the lessons you are faced with_________.‎ ‎ A. are beyond your power   B. keep you from growth ‎ C. limit your development     D. help you with your success ‎35. Which of the following is TRUE?‎ ‎ A. All things are equal and justice will always prevail.(流行)‎ ‎ B. You should learn to appreciate your specific uniqueness.‎ ‎ C. One has to fix his mind on unfairness of circumstances.‎ ‎ D. You have to complain “it’s not fair” whenever possible.‎ 第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)‎ 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。‎ The daily life of a high school student is busy and often very stressful. 36 How can you deal with it? Here are some tips to help making your life a little smoother.‎ ‎ 37 Instead of spending time aimlessly during study hall, actually study! You may not feel like it, but if it gives you more free time to watch your favorite show that night, it's worth it. During your commute to and from school, use the time to study or review class notes. Make it your daily goal to practice using time wisely. ‎ Stay away from distractions. If you hate to miss your favorite show, make time to study before the show comes. Studying with the television on is much more difficult. 38 If the phone is a distraction, explain to friends that you can only talk at a certain time or turn it off.‎ Get plenty of rest. Take a second and see how many hours of sleep you get each night. Is it less than nine? If so, you need to be getting more sleep. A study found that most teens need about nine hours of sleep per night to feel alert. 39 ‎ Make time for you. Studying for two or three hours straight can wear you out, and in the end, you may be having a hard time concentrating. 40 A good suggestion is to spend every 45 minutes in studying and take a 15-minute rest. During the break, do something you find relaxing, such as eating a healthy snack or reading a magazine.‎ A. Kill time freely.‎ B. Watch those minutes.‎ C. You will have a harder time focusing on the learning material. ‎ D. Another way is to listen to some light music when you are learning.‎ E. Many things and activities a student faces can be difficult and confusing. ‎ F. Make sure to include short breaks while studying to keep your mind active.‎ G. By managing your time wisely, you will make room for more sleep in your schedule.‎ 第三部分语言知识运用(共两节,满分45分)‎ 第一节 完形填空(共20小题;每小题1.5分,满分30分)‎ 阅读下面短文,从短文后各题所给的A、B、C和D四个选项中,选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项,并再答题纸上将该项涂黑。‎ When my son Gene was about 12 years old, I started helping him learn to 41 . I am in favor of this plan for the following reasons. To begin with, everyone learns differently. Students can customize their iPad with materials that fit their level and learning style, and thus tailor it to different needs. Moreover, when connected to the Internet, students can interact with teachers and classmates about what they learn more conveniently. For the sake of environmental protection, opening iPad classrooms is a good way to save trees that we have been cutting down for paper. Most importantly, I believe students will develop their interests in the subjects by enjoying a new way of learning.‎ I hope you would take my ideas into consideration and we look forward to attending an iPad class. ‎ ‎ Yours sincerely,‎ Li Hua
