She is recalling old times as she waits for her family’s arrival. The nursing home has been Hilary’s new settlement since Bernard passed away a week ago. Bernard had fought a long and hard battle against coloretal cancer for two years. Unfortunately, he has broken the promise that he and Hilary had made: to be with each other for every birthday. Hilary knew this was unrealistic but agreed to the promise for Bernard’s sake.‎ ‎“Bernard, you are really a dreamer!” Hilary shouted to Bernard as he dragged on about living on an island with his beautiful wife. That’s what she loved about him most —he had a vivid imagination. They got married at age eighteen and began having children right away. Jolin came within the year, followed by Bernard Benjamin, Ann, and Joseph. The family lived a happy life filled with laughter and love.‎ ‎“Mom!” Jolin shouted, but it really sounded like a howl. Hilary had lost herself in thinking about the life she had shared with her husband. Jolin pushed her down the long dark corridor of the nursing home until they arrived at the recreational room.‎ When the door opened, Hilary put her hand over her mouth and was totally speechless. The room was croweded with people dearest to her and the warmth and love was felt instantly. The night went on; stories and cocktails were shared and everything was perfect. However, when Hilary caught a moment to herself she looked around at her family. With a smile on her face, she raised her Margarita and called out for a toast. “ This is for you, Bernard, though you are not here.”‎ ‎21. Why didn’t Bernard keep his promise?‎ A.He had to serve in the army. B. He was busy with his work. C.He stopped loving Hilary. D. He died of coloretal cancer.‎ ‎22. What can we infer from the last paragraph?‎ A. Hilary’s children forgot their father. B. Hilary missed her husband badly. C. Hilary liked to drink alcohol. D. Hilary was tired of noise.‎ ‎23. What can be the best title for the text?‎ A. Memories of Old Days B. A Woman at a Nursing Home C. A Particular Birthday D. A Big Surprise for Hilary B For many of us, the idea of devoting a whole evening a week to learning a language is a terrifying thing, as is opening a new set of books and CDs.‎ Babbel is a comprehensive learning system that allows the user to make learning part of his or her everyday life. Launched in 2007 in Berlin, it’s created and maintained by a team of 300 employees from ‎28 nations, including linguists, language teachers, native speakers, and authors.‎ The 14 language courses on offer are designed to be used on the go, anywhere and at any time, thanks to Babble’s multi-platform mobile apps. These contain 2,000-3,000 vocabulary words per language, pronounced by native speakers and accompanied by relevant images.‎ This native-speaker approach, says Markus Witte, CEO and founder of Babbel, is key to the company’s success. “The courses are designed by experienced language teachers and linguists,” he explained. “Their knowledge about learning processes and language pairings is extremely important when designing lessons. We offer 14 learning languages for seven mother tongues and it makes a huge difference whether a Portuguese or an English native learns Spanish.”‎ One of the real joys is being able to set your own pace and learn what you want and when you want to. Simply choose the language you want and start learning it right away with integrated speech recognition (综合的语音识别系统).‎ Registration with Babbel is completely free, as is one beginner and advanced lesson in every language, so you can start making progress immediately. If you choose to sign up you are offered monthly, three-monthly , six-monthly or yearly payment plans and this gives you immediate access to your chosen language on WWW. Babbel. Com as well as via the mobile apps.‎ For many of us, the commitment of an evening’s work is the last thing we want after a full day. So if you don’t have the hours to put in, Babbel lets you save your completed lessons in the Cloud so you can pick up where you left off. You are also allowed to repeat a course or lesson as many times as you like and, if you miss the pleasure of formal education, you can even get a certificate for every course you complete. Babbel’s real goal, says Witte, is to have its learners ready for using their new language in real life after just a few lessons.‎ ‎24. Babbel’s apps .‎ A. offer free essential lessons B. provide seven language courses C. contain vocabulary words pronounced by experienced teachers D. have vocabulary words with related pictures ‎25. We can learn from the text that Babbel users can .‎ A. get certificates of formal education B. take courses developed by native speakers C. control the process of learning themselves D. communicate with experienced teachers on line ‎26. What is the purpose of writing this text?‎ A. To give advice on choosing apps.‎ B. To present findings of education research. C. To show advantages of online learning.‎ D. To introduce a language learning system.‎ C Horses can tell the difference between dominant(支配的)and submissive(顺从的)body gestures in humans, even when the humans are not familiar to them, according to a new study in the University of Sussex.‎ Psychology researchers worked with 30 horses to see whether they were more likely to get close to a person showing a dominant body gesture ( including the person standing straight, with arms and legs apart ), or a submissive body gesture ( hanging carelessly, keeping arms and legs close to the body, relaxed knees ). They found even though the horses had been given food rewards when in a neutral (中立 的) body gesture before, obviously they were more likely to get close to the one showing a submissive rather than a dominant body gesture in follow-up trials.‎ The researchers used horses at three rider centers in Suffolk and East Sussex. All the researchers were women, dressed in similar clothing and of similar sizes. A dark neck warmer covered their faces to eye level to lessen facial expression. Then the horses were given a free choice to get close to the person either showing the dominant or the submissive body gesture. Over the course of four trials, they found that horses showed a preference for getting close to the person showing the submissive body gesture.‎ Dr. Leanne Proops, from the University of Portsmouth, said, “ Animals--including humans--tend to use larger body gestures to show dominance and smaller body gestures to show submissiveness. Horses may therefore have an instinctual understanding of larger and smaller gestures.” Professor Amy, in the School of Psychology of the University of Sussex, led a study and found horses were able to tell angry facial expressions of humans. Dr. Clara Wilson in the University of Sussex, said, “ The research results like these remind us to be more careful of our body gestures when communicating with horses and other animals to create a smooth animal-human relationship.‎ ‎27. Which of the following gestures can be a submissive one?‎ A. Stand relaxedly. B. Stand at attention. C. Hold your head high. D. Straighten your knees.‎ ‎28. Why did these women researchers dress in the same way ?‎ A. To control the horses easily. B. To be attractive to the horses.‎ C. To get the exact research result.‎ D. To make themselves not get recognized.‎ ‎29. What does the underlined word “instinctual” in the fourth paragraph mean?‎ A. Slow but correct. B. Natural and born. C. Active and positive. D. Difficult and strange.‎ ‎30. What is the purpose of this research?‎ A. To produce a great result in animal study.‎ B. To show the wonderful use of body language. C. To let people know horses are clever animals.‎ D. To warn people to care about body gestures when together with animals.‎ 第二节(共 5 小题;每小题 2 分,满分 10 分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。‎ History of Alaska State The existence of mankind in Alaska can be traced back to 16,000 B.C.to 10,000 B.C., when the Paleolithic( 旧 石 器 时 代 的 ) families crossed the Bering Land Bridge and formed settlements in the western part of Alaska. At this point of time, Alaska was inhabited by the Inuit tribes(部落) and American Indians. 31 ‎ In the 18th century, the Russians began to regularly travel down to the Aleutian Islands, near the coastline of Alaska. 32 These expeditions began setting up permanent settlements and trading posts by the end of 1790s.‎ In some places, the Russian fur traders were able to establish very peaceful relations with the native tribes. However, in some places, the settlers and the tribes engaged in constant conflicts. 33 The Aleut population, however, was significantly wiped out, due to diseases that were brought by the Russians, against which they had no immunity.‎ ‎ 34 It was because the trade profits of the Russian settlements were very low and it was difficult to prevent the British and Americans from coming to Alaska. The financial difficulties of Russia promoted the authorities to sell Alaska to the United States of America for $7,200,000.‎ On October, 1867, the flag of the United States of America was raised for the first time in the history of Alaska. During the World War II, three Aleutian Islands were occupied by the Japanese forces. Some of the villagers were taken to Japan as captives. The islands were regained by the United States forces in ‎1943.‎ Today, as a part of the United States of America, Alaska is considered to be one of the most beautiful states in the country. 35 Its beauty attracts visitors not only from within the United States but also from all over the world.‎ A. It is a favorite tourist destination.‎ B. The Russians never fully colonized Alaska.‎ C. Several expeditions were sent to claim the coasts.‎ D. The travelers were basically fur traders and hunters. A recent study found that one third of workers describe their jobs as highly stressful; and 75% believe that work is more stressful now than it was 20 years ago. Work-related stress can lead to headache, depression, memory loss, a lack of concentration, stomach problems and an inability to sleep. But what causes it?‎ Lots of things, apparently. For example, someone who finds their job too difficult may become stressed, especially if they don’t get any help. Similarly, someone who works too hard for too many hours can become stressed. Finding a job boring can also cause stress, as can working in an unfriendly environment do. But everyone is different. So, while one person may find working 60 hours a week very stressful, another may find it challenging and enjoyable.‎ So, what can managers do to prevent stress ? Once again, lots of things. They can make sure that the demands of the job and the skills of the workers are matched, that the worker is provided with the resources he or she needs to do the job, that problems are discussed, that employees are given timetables that allow them to organize their life outside work, and that everyone is given clearly defined roles and responsibilities. Also, that employees are offered rewards for good work, and that there are opportunities for career development.‎ More importantly, what can you do to reduce stress? Lots, too! For a start, you can talk about it. If you’ve got a problem, find someone to discuss it with. Get moving---ensure you’re getting lots of exercise. Make sensible food choice and eat food that’s good for you. Get lots of sleep. When you lack sleep, your ability to handle stress is compromised. Ensure that jobs are evaluated carefully before agreeing to take them on. Develop the capacity to meet challenges with humor. Laughter is a great stress buster. Give yourself more time! If you are always running late, set your clocks fast so you get things done in time. You have to do it all yourself.‎ ‎2018学年第二学期浙江“七彩阳光”新高考研究联盟期中联考 高二年级英语学科参考答案 第一部分:听力(每小题1.5分,满分30分)‎ ‎1-5. For example, they always ask me what I think is important in a job.‎ M: Well, you should mention specific rewards other than salary or welfare, for example, challenge and the feeling of accomplishment.‎ W: That sounds good. And they often ask why I decide to join their small and young company.‎ M: Apparently, to have more opportunities with an expanding company. ‎ W: Great, I think the toughest question is what my strengths and weaknesses are. ‎ M: You can give a response like this: “I work well with others.” ‎ W: Terrific. ‎ M: For your weakness, you can say that you tend to push yourself too hard. The trick is to describe a weakness so that it can also be considered as an advantage. ‎ W: I see. Sometimes they also ask me what I dislike about my previous job. ‎ M: You can talk about the things you don’t like, but avoid making even slightest reference to any of your former employers. And never forget to prepare at least one question about the company.‎ W: I’ll remember that. I understand employers like a candidate who is interested in the organization. ‎ ‎(Text 10) ‎ As an international student coming from South Africa, I’m honored to give these opening remarks and welcome you all to Sydney University. I feel that we are the most fortunate and privileged students in Australia. The university provides us with advanced facilities and various financial aids, among many other benefits. At Sydney University, everyone is considered a leader and is treated as special. It equips us with the necessary determination, strength and belief in ourselves to be able to achieve our goals. We are being taught to think outside the box and to question and challenge our assumptions about the world we live in. In addition, the university has employed an excellent teaching staff consisting of lecturers from various countries including Canada, the UK and the United States. These lecturers are among the best in their respective fields. This is the school’s greatest fortune. Most importantly, I want to stress that we must give back to our society after completing school and achieving our goals in life.‎
