The 51-year-old soon found himself homeless and was forced to sleep on the streets for nine months in 2006.‎ ‎ Mark soon realized he didn’t have the strength to spend another cold night sleeping in the open---and he knew it was time to get help and rebuild his life.‎ ‎ Soon after being helped into a hostel he was introduced to a man who ran a soup kitchen that collected food to make meals for the homeless. Mark is a good driver so he helped collect wasted food and redistribute(重新分配) it to the soup kitchen.‎ ‎ When the service came to a stop 8 years later, Mark had built up the contacts he needed to run his own business. He said: “I was hiring a van and doing my own redistribution. I would ask some of the charities I dropped off at to make a small donation as well to cover some of the costs.” ‎ ‎ Slowly, Mark’s Acton-based charity has grown from strength to strength and he now has a board of directors and a team of 21 volunteers. The team collect food from Nando’s, Morrisons, Marks&Spencer, and even Gourmet Burger Kitchen, and then redistribute it to the Salvation Army, St Mungo’s, Ealing Soup Kitchen and many more charities, covering almost the whole of London.‎ ‎ Now City Harvest is on a money-raising drive so they can employ another driver, and get food delivered to even more people.‎ 24. She agreed to do a favor for some working moms in her neighborhood. She offered to watch their children for a short time in the morning as the kids waited for the bus. Her kindness allowed the other parents to head to work, making sure that their children were in caring hands.‎ ‎ One day, however, Ms. Snyder received a letter from the Michigan Department of Human Services(DHS). It deals with child care licensing(批准). The letter told her what she was doing was not legal, adding that the DHS was acting on a complaint from a neighbor of Ms. Snyder’s.‎ ‎ The law describes a home child care operation as one where children are given care for part of a day for more than four weeks a year. It makes no exceptions for the kind of good-neighbor actions of Ms. Snyder. Ms. Snyder’s failure to register with the state under these conditions is a crime punishable by fines or prison time.‎ ‎ The case is an example of rules taken too far. All Ms. Snyder was doing was just a good turn for some friends. Who would do such good acts if kind people like Ms. Snyder are punished? ‎ ‎ All the plays, including Governor Jennifer Granholm and some state officials want to rush a new law into effect that would let people like Ms. Snyder do these kinds of good neighborly actions. ‎ ‎ Gov. Granholm, meanwhile, has ordered DHS Director Ismael Ahmed to back off Mr. Snyder and work instead to help create the new law. The sooner that were done, the better, she said.‎ ‎ The change to the law should be made quickly. Michigan has a lot of serious criminals to catch and they must be punished. The list should not include a neighbor trying to help her friends.‎ 28. When did Snyder help children?‎ A. When their parents were at work.‎ A. Before they arrived at their homes.‎ B. Before the morning school bus came.‎ C. After they got on the morning school bus.‎ 28. Why did the DHS send Ms. Snyder the letter?‎ A. To ask her about a neighbor.‎ B. To tell her she has broken the law.‎ C. To learn about her personal information.‎ D. To find out how she was helping her neighbors.‎ 29. What do we learn about the new law?‎ A. It will be against leaving kids alone.‎ B. It will allow kind actions like Snyder’s.‎ C. It will prevent day cares among neighbors.‎ D. It will have stricter rules of child care licensing.‎ 30. What is the author’s attitude to Granholm’s order?‎ A. Supportive. B. Doubtful. C. Uncaring. D. Unclear.‎ D Many people who are deaf or hard of hearing love attending concerts. But because they may have total or partial hearing loss, they need help getting the full experience. This is where sign language concert interpreters come in.‎ Sign language concert interprets sign along with a song to illustrate the lyrics. But interpreters say they do more than that.‎ Jody Daulton is the director of Artistic Sign Language Services. She has a team of interpreters who work at events like concerts and plays. “Not only are we interpreting the lyrics of the song,” she told TIME for Kids, “but we are also describing the sound of the music. The highs and the lows, the softness or the hardness, the musicality of the whole thing.”‎ Sign language concert interpretation isn’t easy. Matthew Maxey does it for a living. He created Deafinitely Dope, a hip-hop interpretation service. He is also deaf. Maxey told TFK that one of the hardest parts of interpreting concerts is ‎ learning the songs in a short period of time.‎ ‎“Interpreting requires a lot of time and practice,” Maxey says. Interpreters have to know which songs an artist is going to perform, in what order, and how those songs might be shortened or changed. “You never realize how hard it is to memorize lyrics until you learn a set list in two weeks,” he says.‎ Sign language interpretation is about giving deaf people the same experience as those who can hear. “Everybody should have equal access,” Daulton says.‎ Unfortunately, that doesn’t always happen. Some concert venues(会场) place interpreters in an inconvenient location. To be close to the interpreter, deaf audience members might have to pay for costly seats. Sometimes, venues can’t afford to provide interpretation at all. But when it works, it’s worth it, Daulton says.‎ The best part of being a sign language interpreter, says Maxey, is “providing communication and access. The joy on people’s faces shows that!”‎ ‎32. Which word can replace the underlined word “illustrate” in Paragraph 2?‎ A. Read. B. Record. C. Translate. D. Understand.‎ ‎33. What does Jody Daulton mainly explain in Paragraph 3?‎ A. What a sign language concert interpreter does.‎ B. How to become a sign language concert interpreter.‎ C. Why sign language concert interpreters are popular.‎ D. Whom a sign language concert interpreter works for.‎ ‎34. What’s a requirement for a sign language concert interpreter?‎ A. Normal hearing. B. A good memory. ‎ C. A lovely singing voice. D. Creative imagination.‎ ‎35. What can we learn about sign language concert interpretation?‎ A. It’s hard for the deaf to understand.‎ B. It’s a waste of time and money.‎ C. It’s now widely accepted.‎ D. It’s a worthwhile job.‎ 第二节(共5小题;每题2.5分,满分12.5分)‎ 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。‎ Reading is a very good way to learn a new language and culture. ___36___‎ Firstly, it’s important to choose a book which is the right level for you. And it’s a good idea to set up more parking lots, which can make it easier for drivers to park their cars and also make the spot tidier.‎ ‎ I hope you can take my suggestions into consideration.
