I think it's important to see as much of a country as you can, but it is difficult to travel around Nepal. The hospital let me have a few days holiday, so I decided to go into the jungle (丛林) and I asked a Nepalese guide, Kamal Rai, to go with me. We started our trip at six in the morning with two elephants carrying our equipment. It was hot, but Kamal made me wear shoes and trousers to protect me from snakes. In the jungle there was a lot of wildlife, but we were trying to find big cats, especially tigers. We climbed onto the elephants backs to see better, but it is unusual to find tigers in the afternoon because they sleep in the daytime. Then, in the distance, we saw a tiger, and Kamal told me to be very quiet. We moved nearer and found a dead deer. This was the tigers lunch! I started to feel very frightened. We heard the tiger a second before we saw it. It jumped out suddenly, five hundred kilos plus and four meters long. It grabbed (咬住) Kamal's leg between its teeth, but I succeeded (成功) in pulling Kamal away. One of our elephants ran at the tiger and made it go back into the grass, so we quickly escaped to let the tiger eat its lunch. That night it was impossible to sleep. 21. The writer of the passage must be____ . A. a Nepalese doctor B. a foreign tourist C. a Nepalese traveler D. a foreign doctor 22. What made the writer suddenly start to feel very frightened? A. B Too many people want others to be their friends, but they don’t give friendship back. That is why some friendships don’t last very long. To have a friend, you must learn to treat your friend the way you want your friend to treat you. Learning to be a good friend means learning three rules: be honest; be generous (宽宏大量的);be understanding. Honesty is where a good friendship starts. Friends must be able to trust one another. If you don’t tell the truth, people usually find out. If a friend finds out that you haven’t been honest, you may lose your friend’s trust. Good friends always count on one another to speak and act honestly. Generosity means sharing and sharing makes a friendship grow. You don’t have to give your lunch money or your clothes, or enjoy, like our hobbies and your interests. Naturally you will want to share your ideas and feelings. These can be very valuable to a friend. They tell your friend what is important to you. By sharing them you help your friend know you better. Sooner or later everyone needs understanding and help with a problem. Something may go wrong at school. Talking about the problem can make it easier to solve . Turning to a friend can be a first step in solving the problem. So to be a friend you must listen and understand. You must try to put yourself in your friend’s place so you can understand the problem better. No two friendships are ever exactly alike (相同). But all true friendships have three things in common. If you plan to keep your friendships, you must practice honesty. Generosity and understanding. 24. Some friendships don’t last very long because ________ . A. there are too many people who want to make friends. B. those who never give others friendships receive no friendship from others C. those who give others friendships receive friendships from others D. they don’t know friendship is something serious 25. Which of the following is NOT true in the passage? A. A friend who gives you his lunch money is a true friend. B. Always tell your friend the truth. C. Discussing your problems with your friend often helps to solve the problem. D. Sharing your mind with your friend is of great value. 27. According to the author, how do you help your friend know you better? A. Ask your friend for everything B. Don’t tell the truth to your friend C. Share your ideas and feelings with your friend D. Give your lunch money or your clothes to your friend. 28. The best title of this passage is __________ . A. A Friend in Need Is a Friend Indeed B. Honesty Is the Best Habit C. How to Be a Friend D. Three Important Points in Life C Computers are very important to modern life. Many people think that in the future computers will be used in lots of everyday life. It is thought that we won’t have to go shopping because we will be able to get most things which are sold in shops on the Internet. There will be no more books because we will be able to get all texts from computers. The Internet will be used to play games, see films and buy food. Most telephone calls will be made by computers, too. Some people are glad about these new ways of shopping and communicating. Others do not think that computers will replace our old ways. Let’s look at books, for example. Some people think that one day we will not read books made of paper. Instead, we will buy and read books using computers. We will read texts on small pocket computers. The computers will keep many different books in them at the same time. We won’t need to turn lots of pages and paper will be saved. Computerized(计算机化) books will be used more and more. Is Internet shopping such a pleasure as going to the shop? Many people say it is not. It is a pleasure to go in to shops and look at things you want to buy. It is also unlikely that many people will want to read large texts on our computers. Because paper books will perhaps be more friendly. Maybe computers won’t change these two habits. 29. In paragraph1 it is thought people will use computers for _______. A. playing games, shopping and making telephone calls B. making telephone calls, having meals and seeing films C. seeing films, buying food, and going for holidays D. playing games, making telephone calls and seeing the doctor 30. Which reason for using computerized books is NOT said in the passage? A. Computerized books won’t be very expensive. B. Computers can keep many different books in them. C. We won’t have lots of pages. D. We won’t need any paper. 31. Paragraph 4 tells _______. A. about the old and new ways of shopping and communicating B. if the Internet will change our habits C. about computerized books D. about future uses of computers 32. According to the writer’s view, which is right? A. Computers will replace everything completely in our daily life in the future. B. Computers will not be used at all in our daily life in the future. C. Computers will not be used in shopping in the future. D. Computers will not do everything for man. D A young man was going to join the army and had to take a medical examination. The doctor was sitting at a desk when he went in. He said to the man. “Take your coat and shirt off, and sit on the chair.” The young man did so. The doctor looked at him for a moment without getting up from his chair and then said, “ All right. Put on your clothes again.” “ But you haven’t examined me at all!” the young man said in surprise. “There is no need to do so,” the doctor said with a smile. “When I told you to take your coat and shirt off, you heard me all right, so there is nothing wrong with your ears. You saw the chair, so your eyes are good. You could take your clothes off and sit on the chair, so you must be in good health.
