B Is there something that you’ve always wanted to try but just never had the time?Well, make plans to try it now since you are on summer vacation. Not all vacations call for taking a tour bus to take photos of famous landmarks. Some vacations allow you plenty of opportunities to learn. The most difficult aspect of a learning vacation may be choosing one because the possibilities are endless. If you enjoy cooking, various companies can take you to Italy, France, Spain, Mexico or even Peru. Once there, you can learn to prepare the local cuisine(烹饪). Trips are often planned to fit in with local food festivals or special events. The term “learning vacation” often brings language to mind. The best way to learn a language is in an environment where it’s spoken. Study Spanish, French or English. Or attempt a more unusual language like Polish, Estonian or Thai. You’ll be able to learn about the country and absorb the culture at the same time. If you are fond of sports, you can polish your skills or learn new ones. Golf and tennis schools welcome players of all levels. If you want a bigger thrill, you can learn to surf, go climbing or race cars. It’s even possible to learn the art and techniques of bull fighting while on vacation! You can also discover your inner artist. Many places offer painting classes in different mediums. The scenic locations of the schools offer plenty of subjects that provide inspiration for practice. If you prefer capturing the world on film, take a photography vacation. Travel with a small group to photograph beautiful animals or scenery. You can also practice your technique on people or at historical sights. Once you decide on a vacation, choose a company carefully. Request names of recent customers you can contact, and then ask them for an evaluation. The more you know before you go, the better prepared you’ll be. Then go out and learn something! 24. Why is it hard for you to decide on a learning vacation? A. Because it is hard for you to make plans. B. Because the possibilities are unlimited. C. Because there are many good foods from abroad. D. Because there’re too many food festivals or events. 25. The advantages of learning a language in its native country is that ________. A. the environment is fit for you to use the language. B. you are able to learn the original foreign language. C. native speakers offer you a lot of chances to practice. D. you can learn the language and experience its culture. 26. The structure of the text would be________. 27. The purpose of writing the text is to________. A. advertise some popular summer programmes. B. encourage readers to have a good time relaxing. C. offer some tips on how to enjoy a learning vacation. D. attract more readers to spend summer time learning. C In Asia, there are special competitions where kites have complex designs and are fitted with instruments that make musical sounds as the wind blows through them. Although all kites have a similar structure , they are widely different in size and shape. Kite-fighting competitions are also held, in which competitors use their kites to attack and bring down their opponents’(对手) kites or cut their strings. For more than 15 years, the Big Wind Kite Factory has been giving kite-making and kite-flying classes for the children on an island in Hawaii. In its kite-making lessons, students can make kites in as little as 20 minutes! Children as young as four years old can learn how to fly a kite. Jonathan Socher and his wife Daphne started the kite factory in 1980. Their kites are made of nylon.Their designs are Hawaiian themes created by Daphne. The designs are cut out of the nylon with a hot knife that seals the edges and then tied directly onto the kite. The kite that is used to give lessons is a regular diamond kite with a rainbow pattern. The difference between this kite and the ones they make during the lessons is that it is a two-string controllable kite. Big Wind employees fly the kite and for a few minutes show students how pulling on one line and then on the other controls the direction the kite goes in. Then the controls are given to the students. Jonathan insists that it is not necessary to make a huge impressive kite to have fun making and flying kites. Even the simplest structure can work, and can give hours of fun. Go on, give it a try![ 28. Which of the following is true according to the text? A.A hot knife is used to iron the nylon. B.Children never fly kites on their own in flying lessons.[] C.Kite strings must not be cut in kite-fighting competitions. D.Daphne designs kites for the Big Wind Kite Factory. 29. What is mainly described in the text? A. A kite factory. B. Kite-flying lessons. C. Special competitions. D. The kite-making process. D I have been continuously against feeding a baby regularly. As a doctor, mother and scientist in child development I believe there is nothing to recommend it, from the baby’s point of view.Mothers, doctors and nurses alike have no idea of where a baby’s blood sugar level lies. All we know is that a low level is harmful to brain development and makes a baby easily annoyed. In this state, the baby is difficult to calm down and sleep is impossible. The baby asks for attention by crying and searching for food with its mouth. It is not just unkind but also dangerous to say a four-hourly feeding timetable will make a baby satisfied. The first of the experts to advocate a strict clock-watching timetable was Dr Frederic Truby King who was against feeding in the night. I’ve never heard anything so ridiculous.Baby feeding shouldn’t follow a timetable set by the mum. What is important is feeding a baby in the best way, though it may cause some inconvenience in the first few weeks. Well,at last we have copper-bottomed research that supports demand feeding and points out the weaknesses of strictly timed feeding. The research finds out that babies who are fed on demand do better at school at age 5,7,11 and 14,than babies fed according to the clock.By the age of 8,their IQ(智商)scores are four to five percent higher than babies fed by a strict timetable..This research comes from Oxford and Essex University using a sample(样本)of 10,419 children born in the early 1990s,taking account of parental education, family income,a child’s sex and age,the mother’s health and feeding style. These results don’t surprise me. I hope this research will put an end to advocating strictly timed baby feeding practices.Acturally,it makes sense to feed baby according to their demand. 32.What does the author think about Dr King? A.He is strict. B.He is unkind. C.He has the wrong idea. D.He sets a timetable for mothers. 33.The word copper -bottomed in Paragraph 4 is closest in meaning to . A.basic B.reliable C.surprising D.interesting 34. What does the research tell us about feeding a baby on demand? A.The baby will sleep well. B.The baby will have its brain harmed. C.The baby will have a low blood sugar level. D.The baby will grow to be wiser by the age of 8. 35.The author supports feeding the baby . A.in the night B.every four hours C.whenever it wants food D.according to its blood sugar level 第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 We all wish we had just a bit more time. Just think what you could do with an extra hour or two each day: you could finally stick to an exercise routine, or springclean the house, or write your novel, or learn the guitar and so on.__36__ But I can help you find more hours in your day for the things that really matter. ◆ Get Out of Bed Earlier If you normally get up at 7:30 a.m., try getting up at 7:00 a.m. That halfhour might not sound like much, but it could be time that you use to exercise, to read that book you've been meaning to finish. __37_ ◆ Do the Important Tasks First Once you get to work, get the important ones done first (not the easy ones, or even the urgent ones). You can afford to spend at least an hour working on big, important tasks rather than on all those little urgent ones.__38__ The urgent tasks will still get done, and you won't miss the important ones. ◆ Reduce Interruptions If colleagues have a habit of hanging around your desk to chat, or if the phone is constantly ringing, you might find that it takes you half the day to finish a simple task like writing a letter. Continous interruptions don't just eat up time, they also break your concentration. When you've got a big task to focus on, let your calls go to voicemail. __39__ .Wearing headphones(耳机) makes it less likely that people will try to begin a conversation. ◆ __40__ A few minutes' chatting, browsing the web, and so on, can easily turn into hours of wasted time over the course of a day.If your concentration is slipping, take a proper break: go and get a glass of water, or stretch your legs a bit. And if you're facing a difficult task, try breaking it into small steps or stages so that it's easier to deal with. A.Stay Focused on Your Work B.Take Breaks When Necessary C.If you have an office door, close it. D.If you work like this, you'll usually save time. E.Would you want me to make your day longer?
