One such experiment took place in South America about fifty years ago. Whether its final consequences will cause serious damage or nothing more than a small trouble still remains to be seen.‎ The story began in 1956 when an American scientist working in Brazil decided to solve the problem of increasing the productivity of that country's bees. He imported a very active type of African bee from Tanzania and mated (交配) it with the more easy-going native variety to produce a new kind of bees. The new bees worked harder and produced twice as much honey. It seemed that Professor Kerr, for that was the scientist's name, had a total success on his hands.‎ Then things began to go wrong. For some reason as yet unseen, but perhaps as a result of something in their environment, the new bees began to develop extremely attacking personalities. They became bad-tempered and easy to be angry, attacked the native bees and drove them from ‎ their living places.‎ But worse was to follow. Having taken over the countryside, the new bees, with their dangerous stings (叮), began to attack its neighbors--cats, dogs, horses, chickens and finally man himself. A long period of terror began that has so far killed a great number of animals and about 150 human beings.‎ This would have been bad enough if the bees had stayed in Brazil. But now they are on the move, heading northwards in countless millions towards Central and North America, and moving at the alarming speed of 200 miles a year. The countries that lie in their path are naturally worried because it looks as if nothing can be done to stop them.‎ ‎24. The results of the South American experiment______________ .‎ A. have caused a serious trouble B. have proved to be wrong B. have proved to be wrong C. are not important D. are not yet certain D. are not yet certain D. are not yet certain ‎25. The experiment mentioned in this passage was designed to______________.‎ A. make Brazilian bees more easy-going B. increase the amount of honey in Brazil C. increase the number of bees in Brazil D. make African bees less active ‎26. Which of the following may be the cause of the new bees' attacking personalities?‎ A. Their production of honey. B. Their hard work. B. Their hard work.‎ C. Their bad temper. D. Their living environment. D. Their living environment.‎ ‎27. The last paragraph implies that_____________.‎ A. the bees may bring about trouble in more countries B. the bees have been driven to Central and North America C. the bees must be stopped from moving north D. the bees prefer to live in Brazil C John Blanchard stood up from the bench, straightened his Army uniform, and studied the crowd of people making their way through Grand Central Station. He looked for the girl whose heart he knew, but whose face he didn’t, the girl with the rose.‎ His interest in her had begun thirteen months before in a Florida library. Taking a book off the shelf he found himself attracted, not with the words of the book, but with the notes penciled in the margin(页边的空白). The soft handwriting reflected a thoughtful soul and insightful mind. In ‎ the front of the book, he discovered the previous owner’s name, Miss Hollis Maynell. With time and effort he located her address. She lived in New York City. He wrote her a letter introducing himself and inviting her to keep in touch. The next day he was shipped overseas for service in World War II.‎ During the next year and one month the two grew to know each other through the mail. Each letter was a seed falling on a fertile heart. A romance was budding. Blanchard requested a photograph, but she refused. She felt that if he really cared, it wouldn’t matter what she looked like.‎ When the day finally came for him to return from Europe, they scheduled their first meeting —7:00 PM at the Grand Central Station in New York. “You’ll recognize me,” she wrote, “by the red rose I’ll be wearing on my collar.” So at 7:00 he was in the station looking for a girl whose heart he loved, but whose face he’d never seen.‎ I’ll let Mr. Blanchard tell you what happened: A young woman was coming toward me, her figure long and slim. Her blonde hair lay back in curls from her delicate ears; her eyes were blue as flowers. Her lips and chin had a gentle firmness, and in her pale green suit she was like springtime come alive. I started toward her, entirely forgetting to notice that she was not wearing a rose. As I moved, a small, attractive smile curved her lips. “Going my way, sailor?” she murmured.‎ Almost uncontrollably I made one step closer to her, and then I saw Hollis Maynell. She was standing almost directly behind the girl. A woman well past 40, she had graying hair tucked under a worn hat. She was more than plump(丰腴的), her thick-ankled feet thrust into low-heeled shoes. The girl in the green suit was walking quickly away. I felt as though I was split in two, so keen was my desire to follow her, and yet so deep was my longing for the woman whose spirit had truly companioned me and upheld my own.‎ And there she stood. Her pale, plump face was gentle and sensible, her gray eyes had a warm and kindly twinkle. I did not hesitate. My fingers gripped(紧握) the small worn blue leather copy of the book that was to identify me to her.‎ This would not be love, but it would be something precious, something perhaps even better than love, a friendship for which I had been and must ever be grateful. I squared my shoulders and saluted and held out the book to the woman, even though while I spoke I felt choked by the bitterness of my disappointment. “I’m soldier John Blanchard, and you must be Miss Maynell. I am so glad you could meet me; may I take you to dinner?”‎ The woman’s face broadened into a tolerant smile. “I don’t know what this is about, son,” she answered, “but the young lady in the green suit who just went by, she begged me to wear this rose on my coat. And she said if you were to ask me out to dinner, I should go and tell you that she is waiting for you in the big restaurant across the street. She said it was some kind of test!”‎ It’s not difficult to understand and admire Miss Mayne’s wisdom. The true nature of a heart is seen in its response to the unattractive. “Tell me whom you love,” Houssaye wrote, “And I will ‎ tell you who you are.”‎ ‎28. How did John Blanchard get to know Miss Hollis Maynell?‎ A. John knew Hollis’s name from a library book. B. They were both interested in literature.‎ C. John came across Hollis in a Florida library. D. They lived in the same city.‎ ‎29. When Blanchard went over to greet the woman, he was _____.‎ A. shocked but inspired B. satisfied and confident C. annoyed and bad-mannered D. disappointed but well-behaved ‎ ‎30. Which of the following can be the best title for the passage?‎ A. The Symbol of Rose B. Don’t Judge a Book by its Cover C. A Test of Love D. Love is blind 第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)‎ 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项是多余项。‎ Doctors say anger can be an extremely damaging emotion, unless you learn how to deal with it. They warn that anger can lead to heart disease, stomach problems, headaches, emotional problems and possibly cancer.‎ ‎ 31 Some people express anger openly in a calm reasonable way. Others burst with anger and scream and yell. But other people keep their anger inside. They cannot or will not express it. This is called repressing anger.‎ For years many doctors thought that repressing anger was more dangerous to a person’s health than expressing it. They said that when a person is angry, the brain releases the same hormones. They speed the heart rate, raise blood pressure, or sugar into the blood, etc. 32 Some doctors say that both repressing and expressing anger can be dangerous. They believe that those who express anger violently may be more likely to develop heart disease, and they believe that those who keep their anger inside may face a greater danger of high blood pressure.‎ ‎ 33 They say the first step is to admit that you are angry and to recognize the real cause of the anger, then decide if the cause is serious enough to get angry about. If it is, they say, “ 34 Wait until your anger has cooled down and you are able to express yourself calmly and reasonably.”‎ Doctors say that a good way to deal with anger is to find humor in the situation that has made you angry. 35 ‎ A. In general the person feels excited and ready to act.‎ B. They said that laughter is much healthier than anger.‎ C. Expressing anger violently is more harmful than repressing it.‎ D. Doctors say the solution is learning how to deal with anger.‎ E. Do not express your anger while angry. ‎ F. Anger is a normal emotion that we all feel from time to time.‎ G. Anger may cause you cancer.‎ 第三部分:语言运用(共两节,满分45分)‎ 第一节 完形填空(共20小题;每小题1.5分,满分30分)‎ 阅读下面短文,从短文后各题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。‎ Back to School I had always longed to get a degree, but raising a family had come first.
