Research suggests that more than 70% of communication occurs without people having to say a single word. Like language, the way we communicate nonverbally varies across cultures .But,unlike language ,it can be very difficult to find out what the nonverbal rules are. It’s all very well known that there are differences in the ways that cultures work, but what can you do to try to prepare yourself for living and surviving in another culture ? I think you’ve got two things to think about. I personally don’t fully accept the idea of “When in Rome ,do as the Romans do”.I don’t think people expect you to completely adopt all of the things that they do .What I think that people would like is that you agree and understand it and that you do your best. One of the things you can do is actually explain to the other culture, saying,“Well, you know ,actually we don’t normally kiss in my culture ,so it’s a bit uncomfortable .”But then do your best ,so it’s a learning process . Well, kissing is just one of many different ways of interaction that you need to know .You can get into difficult or embarrassing or even worse situations if you don’t know it. Eye contact ,tone of voice ,how close you stand ,any touching ,how many times you kiss ,a long handshake ,a short hand shake,it can go on and on .So I think ,yes, you do need to get these correct and you need to have good observation skills . 5.From the passage ,it can be inferred that . A.only grownups have body language B.body language can be understood by all the people all the time C.only the same body language has the same meaning all over the world D.body languages are not the same because their cultures are different 6.The passage is mainly to tell readers . A.body language is important B.to find out the rules of body language C.when in Rome,do as the Romans do D.to learn good observation skills 7.According to the author ,we know that . A.to learn body language, you should watch people and observe what they do B.to learn a language, you should prepare yourself for living in another culture C.when you learn a language, you must know the differences of different cultures D.to know body language, you should adopt all that other cultures do 8.The underlined word “interaction” in the last paragraph is closest in meaning to “ ”. A.activity B.expression C.difference D.communication C Japanese students work very hard but many are unhappy. They feel heavy pressures from their parents to do well in school. Most students are always being told by their parents to study harder so that they can have a wonderful life. Though this maybe good ideas for those very bright students ,it can have very bad results for many students who are not quick enough at learning. Unfortunately,a number of students killed themselves. Others are after comfort in using drugs .Some do bad things with troublemakers and turn to crime .Many of them have tried very hard at school but have failed in the exams and have disappointed their parents. Such students feel that they are less important and leave school before they have finished their study. It is surprising that though most Japanese parents are worried about their children, they do not help them in any way. Many parents feel that they are not able to help their children and that it is the teachers’ work to help their children. To make matters worse,a lot of parents send their children to special schools called jukucram schools. These schools are open during the evening and on weekends, and their only purpose is to prepare students to pass exams. They do not try to educate students in any real sense of the real world. It thus comes as a shock to realize that almost three quarters of the junior or high school population attend these cram schools. Ordinary Japanese schools usually have rules about everything from the students’ hair to their clothes and things in their school bag. Child psychologists now think that such strict rules often lead to a feeling of being unsafe and being unable to fit into society. They regard the rules as being harmful to the development of each student. They believe that no sense of moral values is developed and that students are given neither guidance nor training in becoming good citizens. 9.A lot of Japanese students are unhappy at school because . A.they work very hard B.they find they can’t do well at school C.they feel unimportant D.they are under too much pressure 10.Because of their failure at school ,some students take drugs to . A.kill themselves B.seek comfort C.disappoint their parents D.make trouble 11.In jukucram schools students . A.are taken good care of by the teachers B.feel no pressure C.are trained to pass exams D.can learn a lot of useful things 12.In ordinary Japanese schools , . A.there are strict rules B.students feel safe C.students can do anything D.learning is not important D We all know what a brain is. A doctor will tell you that the brain is the organ of the body in the head. It controls our body’s functions, movements, emotions and thoughts. But a brain can mean so much more . A brain can also simply be a smart person. If a person is called brainy, she is smart and intelligent .If a family has many children but one of them is super smart, you could say “She’s the brains in the family .”And if you are the brains behind an organization ,you are responsible for developing or organizing it . Brain trust is a group of experts who give advice. Word experts say the phrase “brain trust” became popular when FranklinD. Roosevelt first ran for president in 1932 .Several professors gave him advice on social and political issues facing the US. These professors were called his “brain trust ”. These ways we use the word “brain” all make sense. But other ways we use the word are not so easy to understand .For example,to understand the next brain expression ,you first need to know the word “drain”.As a verb ,to drain means to remove something by letting it flow away. So a brain drain may sound like a disease where the brain flows out the ears. But,a brain drain is when a country’s most educated people leave their countries to live in another. The brains are ,sort of ,draining out of the country . However,if people are responsible for a great idea ,you could say they brainstormed it. Here, brainstorm is not an act of weather. It is a process of thinking creatively about a complex topic. For example e,business leaders may use brainstorming to create new products ,and government leaders may brainstorm to solve problems . If people are brain washed,it does not mean their brains are nice and clean. To brainwash means to make someone accept new beliefs by using repeated pressure in a forceful or tricky way. Keep in mind that brainwash is never used in a good way . 13.Why did Roosevelt successfully win the election according to the passage ? A.Because he was the brain trust of Americans. B.Because he got his brain trust. C.Because he was smart at giving advice . D.Because word experts say he is “the brain trust ”. 14.According to the text,if you’re the CEO of Bai Du you can be called ________. A.the organ of Bai Du B.the brain drain of Bai Du C.the brains behind Bai Du D.BaiDu’s brain trust 15.What’s the main idea of this article ? A.The origin of the word “brain ”. B.The word “brain ”and its stories . C.The brain is an important organ of the body . D.How to use your brain more effectively . If your weight isn’t in a healthy range, you will probably get specific diet and exercise recommendations based on your individual needs.
