Firstly, in a first language the differences are unimportant as people learn their mother tongue naturally, so the question of how hard a language is to learn is only relevant in terms of learning a second language.‎ A native speaker of Spanish, for example, will find Portuguese much easier to learn than a native speaker of Chinese, because Portuguese is very similar to Spanish, while Chinese is very different, so first language can affect learning a second ‎ language. The greater the differences between a second language and our first language, the harder it will be for most people to learn a second language. Many people answer that Chinese is the hardest language to learn, possibly influenced by the thought of learning Chinese writing system, and the pronunciation of Chinese does appear to be very difficult for many foreign learners. However, for Japanese speakers, who already use Chinese characters in their own language, learning writing will be less difficult than for speakers of languages using the Roman alphabet.‎ Some people seem to learn languages easily, while others find it very difficult. Teachers and the circumstances in which the language is learned also play an important role, as well as each learner’s purpose for learning. If people learn a language because they need to use it in work, they often learn it faster than people studying a language that has no direct use in their day to day life.‎ No language is easy to learn well, though languages which are related to our first language are easier. Learning a completely different writing system is a huge challenge, but that does not necessarily make a language more difficult than another. In the end, it is impossible to say that there is one language that is the most difficult language in the world.‎ 21. What does the underlined word “relevant” in paragraph 1 mean?‎ A. Difficult B. Meaningful C. Necessary D. Possible 22. Why do many people think Chinese is hard to learn?‎ A. Its writing system is strange.‎ B. Its pronunciation is challengeable.‎ C. Its characters are difficult to understand.‎ D. It has great differences from many other languages.‎ 23. What can we learn from the text?‎ A. People will learn a language faster if they use it daily.‎ B. There are many languages that are the most difficult in the world.‎ C. All the languages can be easy to learn with good teachers and circumstances.‎ D. The writing system of a language is more difficult to master than its pronunciation.‎ B Plays are an important part of British culture. The West End theatre district in London is the best place to watch a professional play, but acting also takes place in every school and village hall across the country.‎ There are over 2,500 non-professional drama groups in the UK today and they are an active part of community life. People from all walks of life take on acting roles in addition to their regular jobs. They do it for fun, for the love of acting and as a way to meet new people.‎ Not everyone in a drama club is a skilled actor, but enthusiasm is considered to be more important than talent. Friends, family members and neighbours enjoy getting together to watch the final performance and telling the people they know to “break a leg(好运)”. It’s a great way of bringing communities together. Also, in many rural parts of Britain, non-professional theatre is the only chance people have to see plays for miles around.‎ Many people get a taste for acting at school. Every school puts on a play at least once a year, usually at Christmas, and parents love coming to watch their children perform. Ask any British person and they’re sure to have happy memories of being in their school’s Christmas play, whether they played the role of Mary or Joseph or perhaps even a sheep or a donkey.‎ Another Christmas theatre tradition is the pantomime(童话剧). Pantomimes are a type of musical comedy for families. The audience is encouraged to participate in the performance—singing along with the music and shouting to the actors. Pantomimes are really fun to watch, especially for children.‎ British people love going to the theatre, professional or not, and many of them also enjoy performing. If you have the chance, go and see a play in the UK.‎ 21. What matters most for an actor in a drama club, according to the article?‎ A. Talent. B. Enthusiasm. C. Professional training. D. Support from family.‎ 22. According to the article, what is special about pantomimes?‎ A. All the performers are professional child actors.‎ A. The audience is allowed to play some small roles in them.‎ B. The audience is encouraged to interact with the actors.‎ C. The musical comedy is always about family life.‎ 21. According to the article, most British people .‎ A. learn how to be a professional actor in school B. consider acting to be their regular jobs C. often participate in performance when in school D. watch plays in the West End theatre district in ‎London 22. What is the article mainly about?‎ A. Reasons why British people love plays.‎ B. The origin of theatre traditions in the UK.‎ C. Rules for theatregoers to follow in the UK.‎ D. The popularity of non-professional plays in the UK.‎ C Dogs and other hairy mammals(哺乳动物)shake at just the right frequencies to get rid of water most quickly from their bodies. Mice do it. So do tigers and pandas. These animals really know how to shake. Frequency is the number of cycles—movements back and forth—per second.‎ Researchers at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta recently recorded videos of 40 different animals, standing for 15 different species(物种). The scientists wanted to see how wet, hairy mammals shake off water after they get wet. The scientists said the animals shake at just the right frequencies to lose water drops as quickly as possible. “I think it’s pretty extraordinary that they can do that,” David Hu, one of the scientists, said.‎ This study was led by Andrew Dickerson, a graduate student in Hu’s lab. His team calls this get-dry shake “natural washing machine”. Both the washing machine and shaking animals can get rid of water quickly—but animals are much faster than washing machines. For animals, this process helps them control heat in their bodies.‎ ‎“If a dog couldn’t dry itself, it would have to use 25 percent of its daily calories(卡路里) to heat its body to get rid of the water,” Hu said. “Every time ‎ they got wet they would get hypothermia(体温过低)and die.”‎ The bigger the animal, the slower it shakes, according to Dickerson and his team. A mouse moves its body back and forth 27 times per second, but a bear shakes only four times per second.‎ Animals’ skin also helps them get rid of water. The scientists are continuing to look at how animals interact with water in the natural world. In particular, the scientists want to know how water interacts with hair—which means studying animals that have got used to life in water, like beavers and otters.‎ 21. What can we learn from the 2nd and 3rd paragraphs?‎ A. Professor David Hu led the study.‎ B. Animals shake off water to keep themselves cool.‎ C. Videos of 40 species of animals were recorded in the study.‎ D. Dogs shake off water more quickly than washing machines.‎ 22. How did David Hu feel about the video?‎ A. Surprised. B. Encouraged. C. Excited. D. Amused.‎ 23. What does the passage mainly talk about?‎ A. The recorded videos of forty different animals.‎ B. The movement of animals in the water.‎ C. The importance of water for animals.‎ D. The frequency of animals’ shaking water.‎ 第二节(共 5 小题,每小题 2 分,满分 10 分) ‎ 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。‎ Aware of your time wasters? Skim milk was $2.99, white bread, 89 cents with a 10-cent discount. Leaving the cashier, he calculated that he had saved 80 cents today.‎ At the exit, the wind reminded him of his gloves. “Where are they?” Not in the coat pockets. Not in the grocery bag either. He was sure he was wearing them when he entered the store. He clearly remembered putting them into the pocket of this coat. George made a second thorough search of all his pockets, again, including the grocery bag. Now he was sure they must have been dropped somewhere inside the store.‎ Old George had bought the black leather gloves at a 25% discount, for just $35.00, ten years ago. They were soft and warm and very durable. He had taken care not to let a drop of water or rain touch his expensive gloves, so they looked like new. Losing this favorite possession was almost like losing a child to him.‎ George, calm on the outside but nervous inside, re-entered the store. He followed the same route he had walked before, starting at the bread counter, to the milk section, the corner where salt and sugar were placed, then the rest of the store. Several minutes of anxious searching turned out to be in vain. He asked the customers whether they saw a pair of black leather gloves, but they said no. Then he went over to the cashier without hesitation to ask if she had received any lost gloves, but only received the same answer. His heart grew heavier.‎ ‎  “Society has changed, people have changed,” he murmured to himself. “Years ago, if somebody picked up something lost, they would give it back. Now the good action is lost.”‎ ‎  Yet he did not give up hope. He started to stare at anybody wearing black gloves to see if they looked like his. The first two people he saw did wear gloves, but one was women’s and the other not black. ‎ Paragraph 1:‎ Suddenly, he found a man looking like a lawyer, __________________________________________________________________________________‎ Paragraph 2:‎ During the whole holiday, he was always thinking whether to buy a new pair. ____________‎ ‎________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________‎ 高一第二次月考英语答案:满分150分 听力:每题1.5分 ‎1-5CBAAB 6-10 BCABA 11-15 CACAC 16-20BABCB 阅读:每题 2.5分 ‎21-23 BDA 24-27 BCCD 28-30 DAD ‎ 七选五: 每题2分 ‎31-35 CADEG 完形:每题1.5分 DABCA DBCAB DCABD CABDC ‎ 语法填空:每题1.5分 ‎61. when 62. attractive 63. as 64. the 65. is ‎66.dynasties 67. to offer 68. were included 69. constantly 70 established 作文:‎ 第一节 满分15分 One possible version:‎ Last Wednesday, with the purpose of showing our love for those poor students in mountainous areas, we launched a campaign of donation among the students outside the dining hall. By doing such a deed, we students benefited a lot, realizing that “roses given, fragrance in hand”.‎ 第二节:读后续写(满分25分)‎ Possible version 1‎ Suddenly, he found a man looking like a lawyer, wearing black leather gloves. Abrupt as it might seem, George came up without hesitation and asked if they were his, but there came a disappointing answer. On second thought, he realized nobody would be so foolish as to wear them right inside the store. He had no other alternative but ‎ to ask the cashier to keep them in case the lost gloves were found. Then he dragged his legs towards the exit.‎ During the whole holiday, he was always thinking whether to buy a new pair. After all, in deep winter, he could not do without gloves. Finally poor George decided to buy another pair of leather gloves. With the last ray of hope, he stepped into the store again. No sooner had he opened the door than the cashier told him there was indeed one such pair as he lost. After examining them carefully, he was wild with joy, expressing sincere gratitude and saying to himself that a good action was never lost. ‎ ‎ (150词)‎ Possible version 2‎ ‎ Suddenly, he found a man looking like a lawyer, wearing a pair of black leather gloves. The same color and the same style. He felt a dull flush of anger creeping up his face. Without hesitation, he dashed to the man, grasped his hand and started to have a wild argument. But his rage began to fade when he noticed the gloves still had the price tag on them. Suddenly, embarrassment came dominating him. After profuse apologies, he paced out speechlessly with hands in his coat pockets, frustrated and desperate.‎ During the whole holiday, he was always thinking whether to buy a new pair. Sorrow kept clouding his heart day and night. Just as he was to give up, a call from the store lit up his hope again. His gloves was found by a customer, and was now at the cashier’s! His face was brightened with excitement. With hands trembling, he exclaimed, “I do know a good action is never lost!”‎ 附听力原文:‎ Text 1‎ W: I thought you were going to clean up in here!‎ M: I did! My toys are in the toy box, and all my clothes are in the closet.‎ W: But what about the dirt on the floor?‎ Text 2‎ M: What are you doing now? I told you to get to bed early so you’d be on time for your first day of school.‎ W: This loud chair is driving me crazy. I’m just trying to fix it.‎ Text 3 ‎ W: I can’t find my research essay file anywhere on here. Did you delete it?‎ M: Of course not. I don’t even know your password. Have you saved a copy anywhere?‎ W: No. I wish I had emailed it to myself. Argh! I did my work on time, but the teacher will never believe that.‎ Text 4 ‎ M: Do you have a watch, by any chance? My phone battery is dead and I think I’ve missed my train.‎ W: Sorry, I don’t. But I think there’s a big clock by the boarding hall.‎ Text 5 ‎ M: Oh, no! Where’s little Freddy? ‎ W: Johnny forgot to feed him while we were at work. I think he chewed a hole through his box and ran around.‎ M: Don’t tell the landlord we’ve got a mouse in our apartment! Let’s catch him now.‎ Text 6 ‎ M: Did you see the new student in Miss Foley’s class, Sally? I think she’s from a poor family.‎ W: Poor? Why would you think that? ‎ M: She had pieces of cloth on her jeans. I’ll bet she has holes in them, and she can’t afford to buy new ones. Her mom had to sew on the pieces of cloth to fix her old jeans.‎ W: Rusty, you’re a little behind the times. That’s the fashion nowadays. Half of our class has pieces sewn on their jeans. If her parents are really poor, we certainly will help her.‎ M: That’s great. Anytime we should help the poor. ‎ Text 7 ‎ M: What time is it, Harriet? I’m starving, but I guess it’s not time for lunch yet.‎ W: Let’s see…according to my iPhone, it’s just a few minutes past noon.‎ M: What? I thought my watch was wrong. Shouldn’t the sun be overhead if it’s noon?‎ W: Oh, Don. I can tell you weren’t listening in science class last week. The sun is only overhead at noon for two days a year.‎ M: Ha-ha. Very funny.‎ W: No, really. Mrs. Sorenson explained it. The earth goes around the sun at an angle, and that changes where the sun is at noon.‎ M: But…then those old clocks that measured time by the sun’s shadow are all wrong?‎ W: Um, not exactly. They’re just not the same as the time we keep on our computers.‎ M: I wish I were sitting at a computer right now instead of out here. I’m starting to hate nature.‎ Text 8 ‎ M: Oh, no. What happened in here, Alexa? Why are there some dead plants?‎ W: I know. Every plant comes in alive and ends up dead. I definitely do not have a green thumb.‎ M: People always say that, but it’s not that hard to keep house plants. What did you do to care for this one?‎ W: That one had a big flower on it, so I put it in the sunlight.‎ M: This is a winter plant from north China. It doesn’t do well in direct sunlight. Just move it here. Didn’t you look up how to care for it when you got it?‎ W: No. I just thought it was pretty, and it was doing OK in the shop.‎ M: And this one here is all yellow. That means you gave it too much water.‎ W: Too much water? I think if it doesn’t need the water, it doesn’t have to drink it.‎ M: That’s not how plants work. I’m afraid the root system under the dirt of this one is destroyed. You’ll have to throw this one away. Look, here’s an app with plant information. ‎ Text 9‎ M: Why don’t you have some of my cake, Sue? I made it just for this party.‎ W: Sorry, Bill. I’m not into cake at the moment. I thought you knew about my diet.‎ M: On your birthday? Surely you can eat whatever you want on your birthday. You can start your diet tomorrow. And anyway, you look great.‎ W: Well, thanks, Bill. I am not on a diet to lose weight, actually. My doctor told me to stop eating certain foods. I’m trying to avoid being allergic to something.‎ M: I didn’t know food could help with that. I also noticed you didn’t eat any of the sandwiches Jill brought.‎ W: Yeah. And you and Tom and Sharon all brought different cakes. I’m dying to try them!‎ M: Why don’t I go get you a salad? I’m sure you’ll feel better if you eat something.‎ W: All right. It’s the only thing here I can eat. What I really want is some hot soup.‎ M: Why don’t I go and get some soup from the restaurant across the street for you?‎ W: That’s awfully nice of you, but I’m enjoying my party. Maybe we could go afterwards. ‎ M: OK. You go back in the house and chat with the guests, and I’ll call the restaurant and tell them we’ll be there in a few hours.‎ Text 10 ‎ Thank you for attending this public hearing on our new Severe Weather Warning System. I’m Mayor Dunley. First, I’d like to remind everyone that the main purpose of a weather warning system is to tell people outdoors to move inside. Now, it’s important to remember that we will test the system every Saturday at noon, so don’t worry about the noise at that time. It’s a good idea to go outside and listen when we test the system and make sure you can hear them in your neighborhood. Remember that the loud noise is only one part of the warning system. The loud noises are activated by city officials after we receive alerts from the national weather service. In other words, you might hear an alert on the national news before you hear the warning here. If you do hear one, what should you do? First, take cover. Our city doesn’t have public shelters, so go to the inside of any building, away from windows. Second, wait for reports on local media. Finally, stay indoors until you hear the all-clear ‎ signal.‎
