‎ ‎ A On my first day of high school,I asked an eleventh grader where my class was. And he told me it was “on the fourth floor, next to the pool.” I found out five minutes later that we don't even have a fourth floor and there's no pool either! Besides that,I didn't have any trouble with the older kid.‎ I think the biggest difference between middle and high school is the homework load (工作量) and size of the school. I went from maybe fifteen minutes of homework a night to several hours,so I had to learn how to make full use of time! Our class size is around 550,but joining in clubs, sports, music, and other activities at school makes it easier to get to know people in every grade.‎ The best advice I can give about the years you spend in high school is to learn things for yourself, not just to get a good grade. There have been so many tests that I've prepared for the night before, gotten an A,and not remembered anything later. I've changed that this year, and I enjoy school so much more. Don't take easy classes just to have a simple year. If you have a choice between chemistry and sports, the first will prove to be a lot more useful!‎ While drinking and smoking might be present in some middle schools, they're also around in high school. I have a lot of friends who promised they'd never drink or smoke, but are now partying every weekend. If you have “fun” and spend your nights wasted instead of studying, you will regret it when you're applying for (申请) college. The “friends” who say you're a loser for not partying are really not your friends at all. It's hard to see your closest friends grow apart and go in different directions, but don't follow their footsteps. Create your own path in life and make your own decisions.‎ ‎1.What does the author think of high school?‎ A.There are very few activities. B.It's hard to meet new people there.‎ C.It requires hard work. D.There isn't enough time for homework.‎ ‎2.The author advises high school students to________.‎ A.get ready for tests the night before B.give up sports C.choose useful classes D.try their best to get good grades ‎3.The text is probably written by________.‎ A.a high school student B.a chemistry teacher C.a college student D.a sports player ‎4.The last paragraph mainly tells us________.‎ A.about the trouble caused by drinking and smoking B.not to go to any party in high school C.not to lose ourselves in high school D.about the importance of making friends B Once upon a time, there was a little boy who wanted to meet the king. He set off, walking towards the king’s castle. After many years of walking, the king’s castle came into his view. However,as the boy drew ‎ closer to the outside of the castle, the guards took notice of him.‎ ‎“Get out of here!” commanded the guards.‎ Well, the little boy didn’t have to be told twice. He turned...and ran right away. All he wanted to do was to tell the king wonderful things, and see all the beautiful things in the king’s house. But he couldn’t even get near the castle! The boy finally stopped running, sat down and cried.‎ A young man happened to be coming down the path at the very moment. He saw the little boy and came up.“What’s wrong, young man?” he asked.‎ ‎“Sir,I walked and walked just to see the king. But these guards made me frightened. I wanted to tell the king how lovely everything is and just tell the king that I just wanted to see him!”‎ The man looked at the little boy thoughtfully.“Look, why don’t you try again. Don’t lose heart. I ’ll come with you this time.”‎ The little boy got up and took the man’s hand. The king’s guards spotted them.‎ ‎“Look, mister,we don’t have to do this...I don’t want you to get hurt. We can just turn around now.”‎ The man held the little boy’s hand and went on. The boy really thought the man might be crazy until he looked back up at the guards. They were all smiling now. The little boy was surprised.‎ ‎“Who are you?” asked the little boy in surprise.‎ ‎“Why,I’m the king’s son. You can enter the castle and be with the king,” said the man.‎ The little boy broke into a huge smile.‎ ‎5.Why did the boy want to see the king?‎ A.To ask the king to play with him. B.To get some help from the king.‎ C.To invite the king to visit his beautiful village. D.To share wonderful things with the king.‎ ‎6.What does the underlined sentence in the third paragraph mean?‎ A.The little boy understood the guards’ words right away.‎ B.The little boy didn’t understand the guards’ words at first.‎ C.The guards repeated the words to the boy.‎ D.The little boy had been to the castle twice.‎ ‎7.According to the passage, the young man is .‎ ‎ A.determined B.stubborn C.warmhearted D.mean ‎8.Which of the following best suits the story’s lesson for us?‎ A.Never judge a book by its cover. B.Anything is possible if one tried hard enough.‎ C.Life can sometimes be unfair. D.Make new friends and keep the old.‎ C Yesterday I went to the nursing home to visit my grandma. She just got out of the hospital recently where she had some serious operations. I wanted to surprise her after work so I stopped by for a quick visit.‎ When I got there she was happy to see me. We hugged, kissed and exchanged greetings. Then I heard a woman crying. It was my grandma's roommate. The curtain was drawn so I could not see her. She started calling out a name that wasn't mine but she was certainly talking to me,begging me to go to her side of the room.‎ I ignored her at first and continued visiting with my grandma. Then she started begging and saying,“Please, come to see me!”So I went to see her.‎ When I drew the curtain back she looked so old but flashed me the biggest smile! She opened her arms ‎ wide for me to hug her so I bent low and gave her a hug. I sat on her bed and talked with her for a few minutes. She kept calling me by the other name but I did not correct her. She told me stories as if I had been there when they happened.‎ Finally I went back to talk with my grandma. Then the other woman started crying again, saying,“Please, come back.”She finally slept.‎ I stopped by the nurse's station and the nurse told me that the lady suffers from Alzheimer's. I mentioned the name she had called me. The nurse told me it was the lady's daughter's name. Then I understood why she wanted me to go to talk with her.‎ We will all get old someday. Some of us will have broken minds like my grandma's roommate and some of us will have broken bodies like my grandma. As I was leaving I promised I would go back and visit the lady, even after my grandma moved back to her home.‎ ‎9.Why did the author's grandma live in a nursing home?‎ A.Because she needed another operation. B.Because she had been living there.‎ C.Because she had to recover there. D.Because she waited for the writer to come.‎ ‎10.According to the text, the woman cried because________.‎ A.she missed her daughter very much B.she expected to tell stories to the writer C.she was troubled by the writer's talking D.she feared the curtain being drawn ‎11.What lesson did the author learn from her experience?‎ A.The old need care from others. B.The old will become forgetful.‎ C.Everyone will get old someday. D.We shouldn't leave the old in the nursing home.‎ ‎12.Which of the following is right according to the passage?‎ A.The author's grandma had some serious illness.‎ B.The author would go back and visit the old lady.‎ C.The author's grandma's roommate came out to see me.‎ D.The author's grandma's roommate's daughter always visited her mother.‎ ‎ D I always feel sorry for world leaders busy dealing with fights between nations. When my three children were young, most days it was hard to keep my house from becoming a battlefield.‎ It got worse as they grew older. Three years ago,Zack, then 16,couldn’t make it through a day without making his sisters,Alex 11 and Taryn 9,angry.‎ My husband and I tried to be understanding the boy at such an age. We reasoned, punished, and left heartfelt notes on his bed about how he was hurting our family. His answer was “I say it because it’s true.”‎ I even tried telling the girls to fight back. Bad idea. Now I had three children at war. Whatever I said to them, they paid no attention. When there was no way out,I told everything to my sister,Mary,in an email. She replied,“Don’t email me. Email him.”‎ Our son was online every day, mailing and talking with his friends. Maybe he would actually hear me this way. I didn’t say anything different, but email just took the tension away. There’d be no shouting or door banging. Zack wouldn’t feel under attack.‎ Zack didn’t reply for days. When he finally did,his entire message was four small words. I smiled when I read them:“You’re right. I’m sorry.”‎ The children still fought,of course, but Zack changed. Best of all,I now have a better way to talk with ‎ not one but three of them. I like it that they don’t tune me out as much as they used to. They like not having to listen to me shouting to them. Or as Alex says,“You’re so much nicer online.”‎ All I know is that the house is quiet. But we’re talking.‎ ‎13.What was the trouble before the online talk in the family?‎ A.The writer failed to understand her daughters. B.The children couldn’t get along peacefully.‎ C.The family found it difficult to keep the house clean.‎ D.The parents were not willing to talk with their children.‎ ‎14.The writer emailed her sister .‎ A.to escape from the problem B.hoping she’d email the boy C.asking about childraising D.to tell her about the family problem ‎15.Why does the writer feel sorry for world leaders busy dealing with fights between nations?‎ A.Because she doesn’t think the leaders are successful.‎ B.Because she can understand that the leaders’ job is hard.‎ C.Because she doesn’t think fights can be stopped.‎ D.Because she has nothing to do with the leaders.‎ 第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)‎ 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。‎ It's hard when a best friend isn't around—maybe because he or she moved to a different school or a different class.__16__ You want to have new friends, but how do you make?Maybe it seems that everybody else already has his or her friends.__17__ Start by looking around your classroom—think about which kids you'd like to play with at break.
