The bus is the most common form of urban transportation in Canada. To use public transportation, you must purchase a ticket or a transit pass. Transit passes allow you unlimited use of public transportation for a specific period (one month or more). They are usually cheaper than buying many tickets if you plan to use public transportation often.‎ Transportation for people with disabilities ‎ Public transportation often has features to assist people with disabilities. In many cities and towns, there are also transportation services available specifically for people with limited mobility, such as specially equipped buses. You can find out about these services in the same ‎ way you would learn more about other public transportation options.‎ Etiquette on public transportation ‎ When taking public transportation such as a bus or train, it is important to understand the unspoken rules of conduct in the shared space. Here are a few things to note:‎ ‎ ◆ Be polite and respectful to others around you. For example, maintain an appropriate noise level when talking or making a phone call.‎ ‎ ◆ If you are carrying a backpack or a large shoulder bag in a crowded public transit vehicle, keep it close to you, preferably at your feet to avoid hitting people with it as you walk by.‎ ‎ ◆ Avoid pushing or touching others in order to make more room for yourself. Sometimes public transit can become very crowded, but it is important to keep calm and give others appropriate personal space.‎ ‎ ◆ Have your proof of payment accessible in case you are asked to show it.‎ ‎21. What is the advantage of using transit passes over buying tickets?‎ ‎ A. Safer trips. B. Lower costs.‎ ‎ C. Longer service time. D. More use of transport.‎ ‎22. How does the transportation system help people with disabilities?‎ ‎ A. By offering fewer transportation options. ‎ B. By limiting their mobility on city buses.‎ ‎ C. By running special transport services. ‎ D. By providing free rides in towns and cities.‎ ‎23. What is considered impolite on public transportation?‎ ‎ A. Staying close to other passengers. B. Placing backpacks at your feet.‎ ‎ C. Having your proof of payment at hand. D. Lowering your speaking voice.‎ B The meaning of the word “volunteer” may be a little different in different countries, but it usually means “one who offers his or her services” .There are many different ways in which people can volunteer, such as taking care of sick people, working in homes for homeless children, and picking up garbage(垃圾)from beaches and parks. Volunteers may work within their own countries or in other countries. They are often people with a strong wish to help those who are less fortunate than themselves. Volunteers don’t expect any kind of pay.‎ At the root of volunteering is the idea that one person may have the ability to offer services that can help other people. Tracy, a good friend of mine, however, recently came back from India with a new idea of what being a volunteer means. She worked for two and a half weeks in one of Mother Teresa’s homes in Calcutta. The following is her story.‎ ‎“I first heard about Mother Teresa in my high school, we watched a video(录像)about her work in India and all over the world. I was so moved by her spirit to help others and her endless love for every human being that after I graduated from high school, I too wanted to try her kind of work. So with two friends I flew to Calcutta for a few weeks.”‎ ‎“I was asked to work in a home for sick people. I helped wash clothes and sheets, and pass out lunch. I also fed the people who were too weak to feed themselves and tried to cheer them up. I felt it was better to share with them than to think that I have helped them. To be honest, I don’t think I was helping very much. It was then that I realized that I had not really come to help, but to learn about and experience another culture(文化)that helped improve my own understanding of life and the world.”‎ ‎24. According to the text, a volunteer refers to a person who __________.‎ A. has made a big fortune in life B. can afford to travel to different places C. has a strong wish to be successful ‎ D. is willing to help those in need without pay ‎25. Tracy started her work as a volunteer ____________.‎ A. after she met Mother Teresa B. after she finished high school C. when she was touring Calcutta D. when she was working in a hospital ‎26. Why did Tracy choose to be a volunteer?‎ A. She liked to work with Mother Teresa. ‎ B. She was asked by Mother Teresa to do so.‎ C. She wanted to follow Mother Teresa’s example.‎ D. She had already had some experience.‎ ‎27. What is Tracy’s “new idea”(Paragraph 2)of being a volunteer?‎ A. Going abroad to help the sick. B. Doing simple things to help the poor. ‎ C. Working in Mother Teresa’s home. D. Improving oneself through helping others.‎ C Here’s an idea whose time has come: A flu shot that doesn’t require an actual shot.‎ For the first time, researchers have tested a flu vaccine patch (疫苗贴) in a human clinical trial and found that it delivered as much protection as a traditional injection with a needle. Doctors and public health experts have high hopes that it will increase the number of people who get immunized (免疫的) against the flu.‎ Seasonal flu is responsible for up to half a million deaths around the world each year according to the World Health Organization. A team led by Georgia Tech engineer Mark Prausnitz has come up with another method that uses “microneedles”. These tiny needles are so small that 100 of them, arranged in order on a patch, can fit under your thumb.Yet they’re big enough to hold vaccine for three types of flu.‎ None of the study volunteers had serious side effects. The groups that got patches had mild skin reactions that were not seen in the regular needle group, while the volunteers in the regular needle group were more likely to experience pain. Overall, 70 percent of the volunteers who got vaccine patches said they’d rather use them again than get a traditional flu shot. The study authors declared it a success on all fronts.‎ The biggest beneficiaries could be people in low- and middle-income countries, where flu vaccines are hard to come by. Reducing pain is nice, but other benefits—the patch costs less,is easier to transport, doesn’t require refrigeration, can be self-administered and doesn’t cause waste of needles-are even better.‎ ‎“Microneedle Patches have the potential to become ideal candidates for vaccination programs,” wrote Katja Hoschler and Maria Zambon of Public Health England.‎ ‎28. What is the passage mainly about?‎ A. A patch that makes flu shots a thing of the past.‎ B. A clinical study that protects people from disease.‎ C. A vaccine patch that cures people of their flu.‎ D. A method that makes traditional flu shots painless.‎ ‎29. What do we know about the vaccine patch?‎ A. It is produced by the WHO. B. It delivers vaccine to the little finger.‎ C. It causes slight side effects. D. It works badly on 30% of the volunteers.‎ ‎30. The new patch has all the following benefits except that ________.‎ A. it can be used without a doctor B. it is provided free of charge C. it can he kept at room temperature D. it needs less care in transportation ‎ ‎31. What is Kaija and Maria’s attitude towards the new shot?‎ A. Cautious. B. Disapproving. C. Ambiguous. D. Favorable.‎ D Famous Irish poet Oscar Wilde (1854-1900) once wrote: “Ah! Realize your youth while you have it.” He pointed out the important truth about how precious youth is in one’s journey through life.‎ However, the popular Internet slang word foxi - or Buddhist - is challenging this norm(标准) by encouraging young people to remain calm and peaceful and avoid conflict as much as possible — in other words, to live like a Buddha.‎ The phrase was reportedly created in Japan in 2014 to describe young men who no longer bother to start relationships with women or follow someone else’s life path. They prefer to stay in their own peaceful world without being disturbed and care little about passion and success.‎ Now, Chinese Internet users are pairing the phrase with other words to describe a similar mindset(心态). For example, “Buddhist students” are those who study just the right amount - they don’t cut class, but they don’t burn the midnight oil, either. There are also “Buddhist parents”, who interfere (干涉) little with their children’s lives and let them develop however they like= the opposite of “helicopter parents”.‎ In this fast-changing and competitive world, it’s only natural that people are seeking a spiritual anchor. However, some would compare foxi with “demotivational culture” - a phrase that describes young people who feel aimless and powerless. They say that foxi actually reflects the reality that young people are losing their will to fight. They are pretending to keep a healthy and wise attitude toward failure simply because they’re incapable of succeeding.‎ But no matter what, there is one thing that “Buddhist youngsters” should keep in mind: You may want to keep a calm mindset regarding failure, but you should also be passionate about school, work and life. After all, Wilde also wrote: “Live the wonderful life that is in you! Let nothing be lost upon you. Be always searching for new sensations. Be afraid of nothing.”‎ ‎32. Which would be considered as “Buddhist” by Chinese Internet users?‎ A. A man refusing to date with girls. B. A person refusing others’ advice.‎ C. A student never working extra hours. D. A parent caring too much about his child.‎ ‎33. What does the underlined word “demotivational” in paragraph 5 probably mean?‎ A. Full of energy. B. Absent-minded C. Physically healthy. D. Lacking motivation.‎ ‎34. What’s the writer’s suggestion to “Buddhist youngsters”?‎ A. Being cooperative. B. Being positive. ‎ C. Being considerate. D. Being content ‎35. What is the best title of the passage?‎ A. Peaceful, or aimless? B. Foxi is popular nowadays.‎ C. What should Buddhist youngsters do? D. Foxi helps live a wonderful life.‎ 第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)‎ 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。‎ How to Make a Chinese Hot Pot Eating a Chinese hot pot is a very common experience.
