Boys come in different sizes, weights, and colors, but all boys have the same belief: to enjoy every second of every minute of every hour of every day and to fill the air with noise until the adult send them off to bed at night.‎ Boys are found everywhere – on top of, under, inside of, climbing on, swinging from, running around, or jumping to. Mothers spoil them, little girls hate them, older sisters and brothers love them, and God protects them. A boy is TRUTH with dirt on its face, BEAUTY with a cut on its finger, WISDOM with chocolate in its hair, and the HOPE of the future with a snake in its pocket.‎ When you are busy, a boy is a trouble – maker and a noise. When you want him to make a good impression, his brain turns to jelly or else he becomes a wild creature destroying the world and himself with it.‎ A boy is a mixture – he has the stomach of a horse, the digestion (消化) of stones and sand, the energy of an atomic bomb, the curiosity of a cat, the imagination of a superman, the shyness of a sweet girl, the brave nature of a bull, the violence of a firecracker(鞭炮), but when you ask him to make something, he has five thumbs on each hand.‎ He likes ice cream, knives, saws, Christmas, comic books, woods, water (in its natural habitat), large animals, Dad, trains, Saturday mornings, and fire engines. He is not much for ‎ Sunday schools, company, schools, books without pictures, music lessons, neckties, barbers, girls, overcoats, adults, or bedtime.‎ Nobody else is so early to rise, or so late to supper. Nobody else gets so much fun out of trees, dogs, and breezes. Nobody else can put into one pocket a rusty knife, a half eaten apple, a three-feet rope, six cents and some unknown things.‎ A boy is a magical creature – he is your headache but when you come home at night with only destroyed pieces of your hopes and dreams, he can mend them like new with two magic words, “Hi, Dad!”‎ ‎21.The whole passage is in a tone (语气) of _________.‎ A. humor and love B. anger and disappointment C. hope and expectation D. confidence and imagination ‎22.What’s the meaning of the underlined sentence? ‎ A. He has altogether five fingers. B. He is slow, foolish and clumsy.‎ C. He becomes clever and smart. D. He cuts his hand with a knife.‎ ‎23.According to the writer, boys appreciate everything in the following except _____.‎ A. ice cream B. comic books ‎ C. Saturday mornings D. Sunday schools ‎24.What does the writer feel about boys? ‎ A. He feels curious about their noise. B. He is tired of these creatures.‎ C. He is amazed by their naughtiness. D. He feels unsafe staying with them. ‎ B Although different people have different ways to learn English well, I still believe there are some methods that really matter.‎ Let’s first have a look at the four important skills for students to master: reading, writing, listening and speaking. Reading is the easiest skill. It is also the most widely found English language skill for Chinese students. Writing is a more active skill than reading. However it is still a little easier than speaking, as there is plenty of time to choose the right words, and make corrections. It is far more difficult to listen and understand spoken English than to read English. Speaking English may be the most difficult one among the four language skills. It is an active skill, and requires speakers to put words together into sentences without ‎ much time to prepare, and with no time for corrections.‎ My first English teacher always said: listening and speaking keep ahead; reading and writing follow up. I believe this is the rule of learning a language because we learn a certain language to communicate. As we go through the most difficult parts, we would easily master the writing and reading skills.‎ Then how can we make it? I find that my way of learning English that I formed in middle school still works today. By listening to tapes and imitating what the speakers say one can improve his pronunciation within a short time. By reciting good essays one can enrich their language as well as enlarge their vocabulary. As a non-English major, I like to spend some time on English learning every day, usually an hour or at least half an hour. I use this time to listen to tapes and repeat their content in the way the speakers read and then recite the short passages I like. Instead of dividing my attention among too many materials, I’d rather concentrate on one particular resource at a time such as VOA. I believe that studying English in this way will help us to get twice the result with half the effort.‎ ‎25. It can dive down as far as 200 meters below the surface and direct itself by shifting a weight from fore to aft. A microphone attached to the bottom of the glider can pick up calls from all whales, including the high frequency call of the beaked whale, which until now has been difficult to detect. The glider returns periodically to the surface to radio its data back to base, or if that’s too far away, it can call a satellite phone and send its information anywhere in the world.‎ ‎“We are entering a new era of underwater sensing,” says Jim Theriault of Defence Research and Development Canada, Dartmouth, who ran the test. “We can put a glider in the Bahamas and control it in Nova Scotia.”‎ The hope is that naval or other ocean-going operations that use sonar will be able to move easily track where whales are, and so avoid using their noisy equipment when they are close by. There is circumstantial evidence that sonar can upset whales and a number of strandings (搁浅) have been seen shortly after naval sonar operations. “We’re trying to lower the potential risk by knowing the animals are there,”says Theriault. ‎ ‎29. The shape of the underwater robot is like .‎ A. a man B. a fish C. a snake D. a turtle ‎ ‎30. The underwater robot is built to .‎ A. help whales move to the Bahamas ‎ B. help whales give birth to their young C. help ships avoid whales ‎ D. help humans kill more whales ‎ ‎31. Robot built to spy on whales ‎ D Nowadays, many young people have access to the radio, but they listen only to music programs. There aren’t actually any programs to inform them about how youth could take part in social activities. ‎ Youth are not only interested in knowing what the latest music top hits are, but they also want to learn about other things, especially how young people can take part in solving different social problems. There should be radio programs for teens that do care about the society! ‎ But now it seems that, neither do TV channels have programs about social issues, nor are the young people eager to learn more about their society. How could young people participate if they never find out about what’s happening around them?‎ Newspapers and magazines are still the most popular media. They reach people who could never watch a TV program or never had access to the Internet. Yet, youth can’t even participate; their opinions, ideas and attitudes find no place in the pages of the big magazines. ‎ Teen magazines are really interesting and exciting, but because of their “cool-attitude”, they are actually never read by serious adults. ‎ Let’s see the difference between what we are shown on media and what we want to see: society’s belief is that adolescents don’t care about anything, only enjoying themselves and thinking of petty things like clothes, parties, dating, etc; but, on the other hand, the Mass Media shows only what some young persons want to see, such as soap operas, violent TV shows, advertisements of fashion clothes, etc; which make us all look like complete trivial and cold people. ‎ If teenagers were given the opportunity to participate in the medias, everybody would see what we really are: youth wanting to make a change. ‎ ‎33. What youths nowadays need most are .‎ A. soap operas related to their schools B. music progammes which they can take part in ‎ C. programmes edited and hosted by themselves ‎ D. programmes in which they can participate to solve different social problems ‎34. The underlined word “adolescents” in the sixth paragraph probably means .‎ A. children under ten B. adults C. young people D. old people ‎35. The author’s attitude towards the media nowadays is .‎ A. affirmative B. negative C. angry D. both satisfied and worried 第二节 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中,选出能填入空白处的最佳选项,选项中有两项为多余选项。‎ Tips on becoming an active English learner Read. 36 .
