The comfortable room B When a consumer finds that something he or she bought is faulty or in some other way does not live up to what the producer says for it, the first step is to present the guarantee, or any other records that might help, at the store of buying. In most cases, his action will produce results. However, if it does not, there are various means the consumer may use to gain satisfaction.‎ A simple and common method used by many consumers is to complain directly to the store manager. In general, the “higher up” the consumer takes his or her complaint, the faster he or she can expect it to be settled. In such a case, it is usually settled in the consumer’s favor, taking it as true that he or she has a just right.‎ Consumers should complain in person whenever possible, but if they can’t get to the place of purchase, it is acceptable to phone or write the complaint in a letter.‎ Complaining is usually most effective when it is done politely but firmly, and especially when the consumer can show clearly what is wrong with what was bought in question. If this can’t be done, the consumer will succeed best by presenting specific information as to what is wrong, rather than by making general statements. For example, “The left speaker does not work at all and the sound coming out of the right one is unclear” is better than “This stereo does not work”.‎ The store manager may advise the consumer to write to the producer, if so, the consumer should do this, stating the complaint as politely and firmly as possible. But if a polite complaint does not achieve the expected result, the consumer can go a step further. He or she can threaten to take the seller to court or report the seller to a public organization responsible for protecting consumer’s rights.‎ ‎24. When a consumer finds that he or she bought has a fault in it, what should he or she do first? ‎ A. Complain personally to the manager in a loud way.‎ B. Show something provable in written form to the store.‎ C. Threaten to take the matter to court.‎ D. Write a firm letter of complaint to the store.‎ ‎25. If a consumer wants a quick settlement of his problem, who is better to complain to? ‎ A. a shop assistant B. the producer C. a public organization D. the store manager ‎26. What is the most effective complaint about what was bought ?‎ A. showing the fault of it to the producer B. saying firmly it is of poor quality C. explaining exactly what is wrong with it D. asking politely to change it ‎27. What does the passage tell us?‎ A. how to make the complaint have a better effect B. how to settle a consumer’s complaint C. how to avoid buying something wrong D. how to deal with complaints from consumers C Human’s invention of zero was very important for modern mathematics and science, but we’re not the only to consider “nothing” a number. Parrots and monkeys understand the concept of zero, and now bees have joined the club, too.‎ Honey bees are known to have some number skills such as the ability to count to ‎ four, which may occur when following landmarks in their environment To see whether these abilities extended to understanding zero, researchers trained 10 bees to identify the smaller of two numbers. Across a series of trials, they showed the insects two different pictures displaying a few black shapes on a white background. If the bees flew to the picture with the smaller number of shapes, they were given delicious sugar water, but if they flew toward the larger number, they were punished with bitter-tasting quinine(奎宁).‎ Once the bees had learned to consistently make the correct choice, the researchers gave them a new option: a white background containing no shapes at all. Even though the bees had never seen an empty picture before, 64% of the time they chose this option rather than a picture containing two or three shapes. This suggests that the insects understood that “zero” is less than two or three. And they weren’t just going for the empty picture because it was new and interesting: Another group of bees trained to always choose the larger number tended to pick the nonzero image in this test.‎ In further experiments, the researchers showed that bees’ understanding of zero was even more complex: For example, they were able to distinguish between one and zero---a challenge even for some other members of the zero club. Advanced number abilities like this could give animals an evolutionary(进化的)advantage, helping them find food sources. And if an insect can display such a thorough grasp of the number zero, then this ability may be more common in the animal kingdom than we think.‎ ‎28. Why did the researchers do the experiments on bees?‎ A. To test bees’ abilities of understanding the concept of zero.‎ B. To see the different abilities between bees and other insects.‎ C. To help bees join the club of distinguishing smaller numbers.‎ D. To train the bees to help people collect much more honey.‎ ‎29. What did trained bees probably choose in the experiment?‎ A. A picture with black shapes. B. A picture with black background.‎ C. A picture with no shapes. D. A picture with white shapes.‎ ‎30. What can we infer from the last paragraph?‎ A. Bees are cleverer than other animals B. Researchers find secrets in animals.‎ C. Animals have grasped the secret of zero.‎ D. Advanced number abilities may help animals survive.‎ ‎31. What can be a suitable tile for the text?‎ A. Bees master the number skills B. Bees join the club of smart animals C. Bees understand the concept of zero D. Bees have complex distinguishing system D Have you ever run into a careless cell phone user on the street? Perhaps they were busy talking, texting or checking updates on WeChat without looking at what was going on around them. As the number of this new “species” of human has kept rising, they have been given a new name — phubbers(低头族).‎ Recently, a cartoon created by students from China Central Academy of Fine Arts put this group of people under the spotlight. In the short film, phubbers with various social identities bury themselves in their phones. A doctor plays with his cell phone while letting his patient die, a pretty woman takes selfie(自拍照)in front of a car accident site, and a father loses his child without knowing about it while using his mobile phone. A chain of similar events eventually leads to the destruction of the world.‎ Although the ending sounds overstated, the damage phubbing can bring is real. Your health is the first to bear the effect and result of it. “Constantly bending your head to check your cell phone could damage your neck,” Guangming Daily quoted doctors as saying. “the neck is like a rope that breaks after long-term stretching.” Also, staring at cell phones for long periods of time will damage your eyesight gradually, according to the report.‎ But that’s not all. Being a phubber could also damage your social skills and drive you away from your friends and family. At reunions with family or friends, many people tend to stick to their cell phones while others are chatting happily with each other and this creates a strange atmosphere, Qilu Evening News reported.‎ It can also cost you your life. There have been lots of reports on phubbers who fell to their death, suffered accidents, and were robbed of their cell phones in broad daylight.‎ ‎32. For what purpose does the author give the example of a cartoon in Paragraph 2?‎ A. To advertise the cartoon made by students.‎ B. To inform people of the bad effects of phubbing.‎ C. To indicate the world will finally be destroyed by phubbers.‎ D. To warn doctors against using cell phones while treating patients.‎ ‎33. Which of the following is NOT a risk a phubber may have?‎ A. His social skills could be affected.‎ B. He will cause the destruction of the world.‎ C. His neck and eyesight will be gradually harmed.‎ D. He might get separated from his friends and family.‎ ‎34. Which of the following may be the author’s attitude towards phubbing?‎ A. Objective. B. Supportive. C. Optimistic. D. Opposed.‎ ‎35. What may the passage talk about next?‎ A. Advice on how to use a cell phone.‎ B. People who are addicted to phubbing.‎ C. The possible consequences of phubbing.‎ D. Measures to reduce the risks of phubbing.‎ 第二节 (共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)‎ 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两处为多余选项。‎ Just Do It Today, Not Tomorrow You're about to call your grandma and you figure you’ll call her as soon as you finish your after school snack. But then you decide to catch up on your favorite TV series, and after that you decide to upload the pictures and then..., before you know it, it’s time for bed. And you still haven’t called Gram. Uh-oh.‎ ‎_ 36___ But is this your day, every day? Are you always dragging your feet until the last minute and then rushing around to get it all done? Then listen up, because we can help you stop putting things off and start getting things done.‎ Get organized---make a list!‎ Write everything down, and be sure to include when it needs to be completed. _ 37____. And make it fun--buy a cute notebook just for your to-do lists, and give yourself a happy face sticker every time you complete a task. Or, if you prefer to go digital, try note-taking apps, or just keep your list in the “notes” feature on your phone or pad.‎ Reward yourself.‎ ‎___38____. For smaller jobs, promise yourself one TV series of your favorite YouTube show, or an uninterrupted 15 minutes reading your favorite book. For bigger accomplishments, like finishing up a huge school project, see if your parents will agree to something special, like a sleepover with your two best friends, or “just the two of us” breakfast with mom or dad.‎ ‎___39___.‎ When a project seems overwhelming, it’s so easy to come up with an excuse to postpone(推迟). So set small goals instead. For example, if you’re studying for a final exam, put each chapter you need to review on your to-do list, and then work on checking off one chapter a night the week before the exam. Thus, you won’t be stuck staying up late trying to cram everything in the night before the test---so not fun.‎ Face your fears.‎ Sometimes you might put off doing something that you really want to do, like taking tennis lessons. If fear is holding you back, just remember that everyone had to start somewhere. ____40___ So stop delaying, and get moving!‎ With just a few small changes, you’ll be able to get things done on time. So what are waiting for?‎ A. Just do it. ‎ B. Break it down.‎ C. As you finish the task, put a big check-mark next to it!‎ D. We all have those days when we just don't get enough done.‎ E. Once you identify the reason, you can figure out which strategy will help you finish the task.‎ 第三部分 英语知识运用(共两节,满分45分)‎ 第一节 完形填空(共20小题;每小题1.5分,满分30分)‎ 阅读下列短文,从短文后各题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。‎ I was unbelievably proud of my nine-year-old daughter, Emily. _ 41__ to buy a mountain bike, she’d been saving her pocket money all year, as well as doing small jobs to earn extra money. Although the Internet plays an important role in modern life, we can’t ignore its harm to us. Many students spend most of their ‎ time playing computer games or chatting aimlessly with others, which may not only result in poor health and decline in study but also loss of communication in the real world.‎ As students, we should devote our energy to study. Only in this way can you live and study happily and healthily.‎ Yours,‎ Li Hua
