Dad, Mom, Harry and I moved to Tianjin on 25 August. We’re not very far from Beijing. Two days ago, we celebrated my 16th birthday. It was great celebrating in China;the only thing that was strange was the cake一here they’re not as sweet as the ones in New York. On Monday school starts—I wonder what it will be like.‎ Monday, 1 September ‎    On my first day I was looking around for a locker to put my books in. However, here all the students keep all of their books at their desks. We stay in the same classroom because apparently we don’t have to go from class to class—teachers come to us!‎ ‎    Today we selected teacher assistants for each subject. Their duties are to collect homework, make announcements, and do other stuff for the teachers and the students. It’s kind of a big deal here! Since I am from the US, I was asked to be the English assistant. I felt so proud but quite nervous at the same time because I wasn’t sure what I had to do,but I accepted the job anyway.‎ Friday ,3 October ‎    Boy, what a week! Now we have nine classes every day, including the morning class, a combination of our American schools “ Homeroom ” and “ Study Hall ”. I think Chinese students work too much! I have to do my homework when I get back home. I don’t even have time to watch TV or surf the Internet like before. I sometimes miss New York and my school because we didn’t have to study so much. We had more time to hang out with our classmates and neighbors; here, besides their usual classes, students are involved in weekend classes in subjects such as English, Chinese and math.‎ ‎    I get a lot of attention, being from another country. Everyone wants to practice English with me! A really cute girl even asked me for my phone number on my second day and sent me a text message! I’m making a lot more friends now. I just need a lot of help to improve my Chinese. Some students want to do a language exchange program with me. Nice!‎ ‎21.The passage mentions all the following points EXCEPT _______ .‎ A.physics study B.food flavour C.free time activities D.language exchange programs ‎22.According to the passage, which of the following is NOT the teacher assistant’s duty?‎ A.Collecting homework. B.Making announcements. C.Helping teachers with small errands (差事). D.Teaching classmates.‎ ‎23.Where is this passage most probably from?‎ A.A storybook. B.A guide book. C.A diary. D.A magazine.‎ B English nowadays is widely used in science, business, the media and popular culture. Every time we turn on the news to see what’s going on in East Asia, or Africa,‎ ‎ or South America, or elsewhere, local people are being interviewed and telling us about it in English.‎ Indeed, if one looks at the facts about the amazing reach of the English language, he or she would be surprised. English is used in over 90 countries as an official or semi-official language. English is the working language of many international colleges as well as of most international research scientists. It is believed that over one billion people worldwide are learning English now.‎ One of the most remarkable sides of the spread of English around the world has been the extent (程度) to which Europeans are accepting it as their language. English is spreading from northern Europe to the south and is now firmly set up as a second language in countries such as Sweden, Norway, Netherlands and Denmark. If one visits any of them, it would seem that almost everyone there can communicate with ease in English.‎ Recently, a special survey of Europeans’ use of languages has just been published. The report said that English is the most widely known foreign language now, with 43% of Europeans saying they speak it and that Sweden now holds the most of English speakers, with over 89% of the population. What’s more, English is the language rated as the most useful language to know, with over 77% of Europeans who do not speak English as their first language considering it useful.‎ English has without doubt become the global language.‎ ‎24. The best title for this passage is “_______”.‎ A. An official language                            B. Global language C. English in Europe D. A special survey ‎25. About English, which of the following statements is TRUE?‎ A. English is the first language in Denmark.‎ B. All African people can speak English.‎ C. English is the main working language in the world.‎ D. About 77% of Swedes are English speakers now.‎ ‎26. The underlined word “rated” in Paragraph 4 can be replaced by “_______”.‎ A. admitted B. disagreed C. considered D. discussed ‎27. We can learn from Paragraph 4 that _______.‎ A. half of the people in Europe speak English B. English is the most useful language in Europe C. English is widely used in the world D. English is a well-known foreign language C Fifteen years ago, I took a summer vacation in Lecce in southern Italy. After climbing up a hill for a panoramic(全景的) view of the blue sea, white buildings and green olive trees, I paused to catch my breath and then positioned myself to take the best photo of this panorama.‎ Unfortunately, just as I took out my camera, a woman approached from behind, and planted herself right in front of my view. Like me, this woman was here to stop, sigh and appreciate the view.‎ ‎ Patient as I was, after about 15 minutes, my camera scanning the sun and reviewing the shot I would eventually take, I grew frustrated. Was it too much to ask her to move so I could take just one picture of the landscape? Sure, I could have asked her, but something prevented me from doing so. She seemed so content in her observation. I didn’t want to mess with that.‎ ‎ Another 15 minutes passed and I grew bored. The woman was still there. I decided to take the photo anyway. And now when I look at it, I think her presence in the photo is what makes the image interesting. The landscape, beautiful on its own, somehow comes to life and breathes because this woman is engaging with it.‎ This photo, with the unique beauty that unfolded before me and that woman who “ruined” it, now hangs on a wall in my bedroom. What would she think if she knew that her figure is captured(捕捉) and frozen on some stranger’s bedroom wall? A bedroom, after all, is a very private space, in which some woman I don’t even know has been immortalized(使……永存). In some ways, she lives in my house.‎ Perhaps we all live in each others’ spaces. Perhaps this is what photos are for: to remind us that we all appreciate beauty, that we all share a common desire for pleasure, for connection, for something that is greater than us.‎ That photo is a reminder, a captured moment, an unspoken conversation between two women, separated only by a thin square of glass.‎ ‎28.What happened when the author was about to take a photo?‎ A.Her camera stopped working. B.A woman blocked her view. C.Someone asked her to leave. D.A friend approached from behind.‎ ‎29.According to the author, the woman was probably___________.‎ A.enjoying herself B.losing her patience C.waiting for the sunset D.thinking about her past ‎30.In the author’s opinion, what makes the photo so alive?‎ A.The rich color of the landscape. B.The perfect positioning of the ‎ camera. C.The woman's existence in the photo. D.The soft sunlight that summer day ‎31.The passage can be seen as the author’s reflections upon _____________. A.a particular life experience B.the pleasure of traveling C.the art of photography D.a lost friendship D Parties and social gathering no longer excite us the same way they once did. This is because of mobile-phone.‎ At parties, more people are on their phones than on their drinks. According to a recent International Data Corporation Study, over half of all Americans have a smartphone and reach for it as soon as they wake up, keeping it in hand all day. In addition, too many people in society are using smartphones while driving and as a result, they get into danger. 34 percent of teenagers admit sending messages while driving. People’s addiction (沉溺) to their smartphones is unbelievably becoming more important than the lives of themselves and others.‎ Just as drivers ignore the importance of focusing (集中注意力) while on the road, many people also fail to recognize the importance of human communication. When with their friends, some people aimlessly check or send messages in front of a friend, which sends a message to that friend: the person I am texting is more important than you. In addition, depending on our smartphones to make friends does not give us the same advantage as being able to make new friendships in the real world. Face-to-face conversations will give us much stronger communication skills in the long run.‎ As many people risk their lives and the lives of people around them just to send a message or mindlessly check their messages, smartphones are in many ways more dangerous to people. The quality of this technology is preventing societal achievements and weakening the value of communication. Not only is the smartphone affecting our desire to communicate face to face, but it is also lowering society’s ability to communicate.‎ ‎32. The purpose of the passage is to .‎ ‎ A. call for an end to use the smartphone while driving ‎ B. tell us to pay attention to communication skills ‎ C. express a concern about the overuse of the smartphone ‎ D. advise us to be careful about face-to-face communication.‎ ‎33. The second paragraph is developed by .‎ ‎ A. giving examples B. time order. C. comparing facts D. space order ‎34. The author advises us to make new friends .‎ ‎ A. by using smartphones B. in a face-to-face way ‎ C. in different ways D. by writing letters ‎35. Over-dependence on the smartphone leads to the fact that .‎ ‎ A. parties and gathering limit their social circle ‎ ‎ B. people are more and more easy-going ‎ C. people’s communication skills are becoming weaker ‎ ‎ D. face-to-face communication becomes more and more dangerous 第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)‎ 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余项。‎ Eyesight plays a very important role in our daily life. Every waking moment, the eyes are working to see the world around us. Over forty percent of Americans worry about losing eyesight, but it's easy to include steps into our daily life to ensure healthy eyes. Here are five suggestions for a lifetime of healthy eyesight:‎ Schedule yearly exams. 36 Experts advise parents to bring babies 6 to 12 months of age to the doctor for a careful check. The good news is that millions of children now can have yearly eye exams and following treatment, including eyeglasses.‎ Protect against UV rays (紫外线). Long term stay in the sun creates risk to your eyes. No matter what the season is, it’s extremely important to wear sunglasses. 37 ‎ Give your eyes a break. Two thirds of Americans spend up to seven hours a day using computers or other digital products. 38 Experts recommend that people practice the 20/20/20 rule: every 20 minutes, take a 20second break and look at something 20 feet away.‎ ‎ 39 As part of a healthy diet, eat more fruits and vegetables each day. Vitamins C and E help protect eyesight and promote eye health.‎ Practice safe wear and care of contact lenses (隐形眼镜). Many Americans use contact lenses to improve their eyesight. Hearing a faint cry of “ get me out, get me out”, some men dug down another 1.5meters and found the boy in the refrigerator. He was described in good condition, suffering only four or five minor wounds. Tom’s eight brothers and sisters died in the earthquake. Officials say that there may have killed as many as 5000 people. By yesterday afternoon, foreign doctors were leaving the earthquake area, as the hope of finding more survivors had lost.‎
