B One June 4th, my family and I decided to go whitewater rafting(急流泛舟) down the Nantahala River in Western North Carolina. It was a perfect day to be out on the water. My father thought that we could all deal with a new situation, so he decided to bring us to go without a guide at this new, hard course. My mom and I were upset by my dad’s decision, but my brother was pleased with it. We got life jackets, our raft and paddles that are used to row it, and then took a bus to the drop point where we carried the raft to the icy cold water. Having finished the training, we were on our own. Within the first hour, we got stuck on two rocks. Another raft had to hit ours to get us off the rocks. After about two hours, we saw a huge rock on the right side of the river. It was coming out of the water about ten feet high and about fifteen feet wide. Somehow, we ended up on top of this rock. After about a minute, water started rushing in where my brother was sitting. When he started falling into the water, I tried to pull him back. Unfortunately, we fell off together. My mother jumped in after us, but she could only get to my brother because he was closer than I was. My dad jumped out and ran up the bank of the river to get to the road, so he could see where I was. Little to his knowledge, I was picked up after about two minutes by a stranger in another raft and was heading down the river toward a little resting spot. I kept crying because I was so frightened and worried about my family. Thankfully, everyone was fine, just a little shaken up and very cold. When we got back in our raft, we had only two paddles for four people. We all knew that it was going to take a very long time to get to the end. One of the guides for another raft told us that there was an earlier place we could get out, but we would have to carry our raft about a quarter of a mile. At that point, no one really cared if we had to do anything after we got out of the water. We finally got to the ending point. We got out of the water, wet and cold. To this day, I have never been so cold in my life. I have not been rafting again because of this terrible experience. All of this happened because my dad did not hire a guide. 24.How did the writer feel about his father’s decision? A.Worried. B.Excited. C.Surprised. D.Pleased. 25.After falling into the river, the writer was saved by ___________. A.his father B.his mother C.a stranger D.a guide 26.We can infer from the underlined sentence in Paragraph 3 that the writer and his family ___________. A.felt so tired that they wouldn’t want to carry the raft B.wanted to get out of the water as soon as possible C.were so careless that they noticed nothing D.were too frightened to do anything 27.What does the passage mainly talk about? A.Difficulties in finding a rafting guide. B.One’s attitudes towards rafting. C.A family’s rafting experience. D.An introduction to rafting. C China is a land of bicycles. At least it was back in 1992 when I traveled the country. Back then everyone seemed to be riding a bicycle. Millions of them, all black. Cars were rare. Yet since my arrival in Beijing last year, I've found the opposite is true. There are millions of cars. However, people still use their bicycles to get around. For many, it's the easiest and cheapest way to travel today. Bicycles also come in different colors—silver, green, red, blue, yellow, whatever you want. It's fun watching people biking. They rush quickly through crossroads, move skillfully through traffic, and ride even on sidewalks(人行道). Bicycles allow people the freedom to move about that cars just can't provide. Eager to be part of this aspect of Chinese culture, I decided to buy a bicycle. Great weather accompanied(陪伴) my great buy. I immediately jumped up on my bicycle seat and started home. My first ride home was orderly(守秩序的). To be safe, I stayed with a “pack” of bikers while cars on the streets came running swiftly out of nowhere at times. I didn't want to get hit. So I took the ride carefully. Crossing the streets was the biggest problem. It was a lot like crossing a major highway back in the United States. The streets here were wide, so crossing took time, skill and a little bit of luck. I finally made it home. The feeling on the bicycle was amazing. The air hitting my face and going through my hair was wonderful. I was sitting on top of the world as I passed by places and people. Biking made me feel alive. 28.According to the author, why are bicycles still popular in China today? A.Because they are traditional and safe. B.Because they are convenient and inexpensive. C.Because they are colorful and available. D.Because they are fast and environment friendly. 29.The author decided to buy a bicycle because he intended _______. A.to ride it for fun B.to use it for transport C.to experience local culture D.to improve his riding skills 30.How did the author feel about his street crossing? A.It was boring. B.It was difficult. C.It was lively. D.It was wonderful. 31.Which of the following best describes the author's biking experience? A.The author enjoyed showing off his biking skills. B.The author was annoyed by the air while riding. C.The author was praised by the other bikers. D.The author took great pleasure in biking. D Philadelphia, Pennsylvania is America’s fifth largest city. Once a major American colonial city, it is the home of America’s first library, its first hospital, and its first zoo. Now it is also the first US city to be named a World Heritage City. On November 6, 2015, Philadelphia joined more than 260 other cities that have been recognized for their influence on the world. These cities include Paris, France, Florence, Italy, and Cairo, Egypt. “Today marks the start of a new and exciting chapter in the history of Philadelphia,” remarked Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter when the announcement was made. “As a World Heritage City, Philadelphia is being officially recognized on the global stage for its wealth of contributions to the world. To be named a World Heritage City, a city must be home to a UNESCO World Heritage site. UNESCO World Heritage sites are selected for their universal value and significance. For Philadelphia, the site is Independence Hall. Independence Hall is where two of the most important documents in US history—the Declaration of Independence and the US Constitution—were adopted. The Declaration of Independence, approved on July 4, 1776, united the 13 former British colonies and declared them independent from British rule. The US Constitution, signed in 1787, established the American democratic system of government. A democracy is a system of government in which the people elect their leaders. The Constitution later spelled out the basic freedoms American citizens have. Philadelphia Deputy Mayor Alan Greenberger says the city’s selection as a World Heritage City also reflects its educational, cultural, and economic achievements. The city is home to dozens of colleges and universities, and many museums, such as the Philadelphia Museum of Art. “Philadelphia has rightfully earned its place as one of the greatest cities in the world.” Greenberger says. 32.We can learn from Paragraph 1 that Philadelphia ________.
