The idea was adopted, and continued at every Olympic Games since 1952.‎ ‎ The flame is lit at the ancient site of Olympia by the natural rays of the sun reflected off a curved mirror. It is lit at a ceremony by women dressed in robes resembling those worn in ancient times, who then pass it to the first relay runner.‎ ‎ Olympic motto: ‎ ‎"Citius, atius, fortius" is a Latin phrase meaning "swifter, higher, stronger", which Baron de Coubertin borrow from Father Henri Martin Dideon of Paris. Viewing TV for an average of six hours a day can cut short your life by five years.‎ ‎ The research claims that sitting too long is as bad for health as smoking and obesity, because of the dangers caused by inactivity and the greater opportunities it offers for unhealthy eating. The scholars performing the study set out to calculate the overall risk to lifespan from watching television. Their research involved more than 11,000 people over the age of 25. They concluded: "TV viewing time may be associated with a loss of life that is similar to other major chronic disease risk factors such as physical inactivity and obesity ‎ Researchers from the University of Queensland used information from the Australian Diabetes, Obesity and Lifestyle Study, together with population and death rate data. But they said " While we used Australian data the effects in other developing countries are likely to be comparable, given the typically large amounts of time spent watching TV and similarities in disease patterns. In the UK, the average amount of time spent watching TV is four hours a day compared with five hours in the United States, which is two hours higher than New Zealand and one hour lower than Japan."‎ ‎ Researchers from the Harvard School said it was believed that long hours' TV viewing results in disease and early death. Other work suggests that sitting long is linked to obesity, high levels of bad blood fats and other heart disease risk factors, and more opportunities for grazing on junk foods.‎ ‎ England’s Chief Medical Officer, Sally Davies, said: "Physical activity offers huge benefits and these studies back what we already know--that sitting too long carries additional risks. We hope these studies will help more people realize that there are many ways to get exercise." Another study shows that exercising for just 15 minutes a day can increase your lifespan by up to three years. It can reduce the risk of early death by 14 percent, with each extra 15 minutes reducing all-cause ‎ death rates by 4 percent.‎ ‎33. What is the purpose of the study carried out by the scholars?‎ A. To calculate the disadvantages of sitting too long.‎ B. To figure out the harm of watching TV too much.‎ C. To show the relationship between life and television.‎ D. To highlight the importance of less watching TV.‎ ‎34.In which country people spent the lowest average amount of time watching TV?‎ A In the UK B. In Japan. C. In the United States D. In New Zealand.‎ ‎35. What can we learn from what Sally Davies said?‎ A. Watching TV is of great benefit for adults.‎ B. Watching TV can help know what we want.‎ C. Sitting too much has some potential risks.‎ D. Nearly all risks are caused by watching TV.‎ 第二节(共5小题;每小题2分, 满分10分)‎ 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。选项中有两项为多余选项。‎ Ⅵ。阅读填句根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。‎ Soon computers and other machines will be able to remember you by looking at your eyes! 36 So in the future you won’t have to remember a number when you want to use a machine or take money out of a bank .You’ll just have to look at the machines that will be able to tell who you are.‎ The eye-recognition program has already been tested in shops and banks in the USA, Britain, Spain, Italy and Turkey. 37 .‎ ‎ However, scientists are also working on other systems. 38 We already have machines that will be able to tell who you are from your voice or the mark made by your finger.‎ ‎ Eye-recognition is better than other kinds because your eyes don't change as you get older, and don’t get dirty like hands or fingers, and even twins have different eyes. However this change has bad as well as good effects, especially dependence on the Internet. Firstly, as we lack enough practice, we are losing the beauty of hand-written Chinese words which express the writer better while machine words all have the same looks., Secondly, our spelling becomes worse if we rely on the machine too much.  Last but not least, the PC screen does harm to our eyes. I prefer the old way of communication even though it is much too slow in the eyes of many.‎
