A.website B.newspaper C.research plan D.business report B Scientists may have found a way to reduce shortage of type O blood. Type O is the kind of blood that hospitals most often need. What the researchers are testing is an easier way to make type O blood out of other kinds of blood. There are four main kinds of blood. Most people born with one of these four: Type A, Type B, Type AB or Type O. Type O can be safely given to anyone. So it is commonly used when a person is injured or sick and has to have blood. Type O is the most common blood group. But the supplies of it available in hospitals and blood banks are usually limited. This is because of the high demand for it. Type O blood is used in emergencies when there is no time to identify the patient’s blood type. Giving A,B or AB to someone with a different blood type, including O, can cause a bad reaction by the person’s defense system. Their immune system can reject the blood. This immune reaction can be deadly. The differences among blood types are linked to whether or not red blood cells contain certain kinds of sugar molecules. These molecules are found on the surface of the cells. They are known as antigens(抗原). These antigens are found with type A, B and AB blood but not with type O. More than twenty-five years ago, scientists found that the antigens could be removed to create what they called universal-type cells. They could be removed with chemicals called enzymes(酶). But large amounts of enzymes were required to make the change. Doctor Henrik Clausen of the University of Copenhagen in Denmark led the study. The next step, he says, is to complete safety tests. The team is working with the American company ZymeQuest to test the new method. If it meets safety requirements(要求) and is not too costly, it could become a widely used life-saving tool to increase the supply of universal blood. 24.How do scientists deal with the problem of lacking type O blood? A.Make type O blood out of other kinds of blood. B.Make the most of the present type O blood. C.Develop new ways of using type O blood. D.Appeal to more people to donate type O blood. 25.What make people have different kinds of blood? A.Sugar molecules in red blood cells. B.People's different living conditions. C.The variety of people's cells and genes. D.People's various immune systems. 26.What can we infer from the text? A.Antigens could easily be removed to create universal blood. B.A Danish company wanted to involve itself in studying blood. C.Type O blood can be safely given to anyone. D.The new method is not safe enough to be put into use in hospitals now. 27.What is the best title for the text? A.Four different kinds of blood. B.A new way to make type O blood. C.The latest research on blood type. D.Find the proper type of blood. C 47-year-old Rakesh Shukla is a talented software engineer and CEO of a successful tech company. D You're enjoying a quiet evening at home when suddenly your neighbor's dog starts barking(吠叫) and doesn't stop. Sure, dogs need to bark every now and then, but if the barking is getting in the way of your daily life, you need to do something. Before you take action, make records of when the dog is disturbing, "says expert Sharon Schweitzer. Record the dates and times when the barking appears to find out the features of the barking. "Check them carefully and get your facts straight, "says Schweitzer. You might notice the barking only happens when the owners are at work, or during thunderstorms. After two to three weeks, visit your neighbors with the facts. "Since you're trying to keep a good relationship, you can’t go when you’re angry and frustrated, "says Schweitzer. Plus, your neighbors might not even realize the barking is a problem, for the worst noise may happen when they're gone. Explain the times when the barking gets bad, then suggest a way to solve the problem. "You can sit and complain all day, but that will go nowhere, "says Schweitzer. Ask if the dog can stay inside during storm, or suggest a dog training class. Be open to compromise(妥协) because the owners might have other ideas about how to deal with the noise. Befriending the dog could help. Have your neighbors introduce you to their dog. "If they become more comfortable in your presence, they’re less likely to bark when they see you or when they’re in the backyard, "says Schweitzer. You might even be able to use commands such as 'quiet' once the dog trusts you. Avoid gossiping with other neighbors about the dog. "That's when things escalate." After all, most people will want to solve the problem. 32.What can you do first when your neighbor's dogs barking influences your life? A.Bring the dog to a training class. B.Show your complain to your neighborhood. C.Drive it out of your neighborhood. D.Record the dates and times of the barking. 33.Why are your neighbors less likely to realize the barking problem? D.They may be out when the worst barking happens. 34.What does the underlined word "escalate" in the last paragraph probably mean? A.Become better. B.Become worse. C.Remain unchanged. People often motion with their hands while talking. These gestures help express their feelings. Movements are a form of communication, and through movement people express themselves. History shows that people have always danced. The people of ancient Greece and Egypt danced to honor their gods. ⑲All cultures at some time have had dances to bring rain, good health, or to drive bad spirits away. Dance, as we know it today, developed from these ceremonies. Many kinds of dancing, including ballet, ball-room dancing, and even disco steps, are often a way of expressing some inner feelings. In some way, ⑳dancing can express these feelings much better than words. Maybe that is why people all over the world enjoy dancing. 第二部分 阅读理解 第一节 A 【解题导语】这是一篇应用文。主要介绍了关于Roger Rocka的晚餐剧院的信息。 21.C 【解析】细节理解题。根据Prices部分第二段We offer a Thursday or Sunday evening show of $30 to kids aged 15 and under when accompanied by adult diners, and $36 to students aged 16-26.(我们在周四或周日晚上为15岁及以下的儿童提供30 美元的夜场,由成人陪同用餐,16-26岁的学生只要36美元。)可知一个20岁的学生应该为周四的晚餐会付36美元。故选C。 22.C 【解析】细节理解题。根据At the box office部分中的Closed on Mondays.(周一关门。)分析选项可知你不能在星期一晚上11点在售票处买到票。故选C。 23.A 【解析】推理判断题。根据文章最后一段中的Single tickets for the 2nd Space Theatre can be ordered by calling the box office at(559)266-0660 or online at www.Tickets. gcplayers. com/andspace/.(如欲订购第二届太空剧场的单程票,请致电售票处(559)266-0660或登入网站www.Tickets. gcplayers. com/andspace/预定。)可推知文章可能选自一个网页。故选A。 B 【解题导语】这是一篇说明文。文章介绍了科学家检测O型血的一种新制造方法,来解决现在医院和血库中O型血匮乏的问题。文章还说明了血液的四种类型以及这项新方法的下一步进程是进行安全测试。 24.A 【解析】细节理解题。根据第一段最后一句What the researchers are testing is an easier way to make type O blood out of other kinds of blood.(研究人员正在测试一种从其他血型中提取O型血的简单方法。)可知科学家用其他血型制造O型血的方式来解决O型血缺乏的问题。故选A。 25.A 【解析】细节理解题。根据第五段第一句The differences among blood types are linked to whether or not red blood cells contain certain kinds of sugar molecules.(血型的不同与红细胞是否含有某种糖分子有关。)可知是红细胞中的糖分子让人们有不同的血型。故选A。 26.D 【解析】推理判断题。根据最后一段中的The next step, he says, is to complete safety tests.
