That’s the number of points I scored the entire summer while playing in Philadelphia’s Sonny Hill Future League when I was 12 years old. I didn’t score. Not a free throw, not an accidental layup, not even a lucky throw-the-ball-up-oops-it-went-in-basket. My father Joe “Jellybean” Bryant and my uncle John “Chubby” Cox were Future League legends in their day. My father as a 6’10” point forward and my uncle as a 6’4” point guard. I was putting my family to shame! I considered maybe just giving up basketball and just focusing on soccer. Here’s where my respect and admiration for MJ was forged (形成). I learned that he had been cut from his high school team as a freshman; I learned he knew what it felt like to be embarrassed, to feel like a failure. But he used those emotions to fuel him, make him stronger, he didn’t quit. So I decided to take on my challenge the same way he did. I would channel my failure as fuel to keep my competitive fire burning. I became obsessed(着迷) with proving to my family — and more importantly to myself — that I CAN DO THIS. It became an obsession. I learned everything about the game, the history, the players, the fundamentals. I wasn’t just determined to never have a summer of zero again, I was driven to inflict (使遭受) the same sense of failure on my competition as they unknowingly inflicted on me. My killer instinct to score was born. Twenty-four years later, I pass my muse. What a journey this has been. Setting this mark is a huge honor. Thank you all for your love and support, it is much appreciated, even if the villain (恶棍) in me refuses to acknowledge it all the time. 24.Why did the author feel like giving up basketball when he was a kid? A.He lost interest in basketball. B.He showed a greater talent for football. C.He felt that he didn’t deserve his family name. D.His family was disappointed at his performance. 25.What did the author think of failure after knowing about MJ’s story? A.Motivator. B.Nightmare. C.Embarrassment. D.Shame. 26.What has the author achieved twenty-four years later? A.He has beaten MJ in his achievement. B.He has known everything about basketball. C.He has become another Future League legend. D.He has defeated his nightmare of the Zero-scored summer. 27.Which word can best describe the author’s character? A.Fragile B. Aggressive C.Optimistic D.Proud C AlphaGo is a computer program that plays the board game Go. In March, 2016, the pride of humankind was crushed (粉碎) by a computer. Google’s AlphaGo defeated the South Korean Go grandmaster (围棋大师) Lee Sedol four games to one, as the world looked on with shock and awe (敬畏). Artificial intelligence (AI, 人工智能) had suddenly reached a new and unexpected height. But as smart as AlphaGo is, it’s no longer the best Go “player” in the world. Google’s artificial intelligence group, DeepMind, has created the next generation of its Go-playing program, called AlphaGo Zero. The new AI program is unique in the way it learned to play Go. Instead of learning from thousands of human matches, as its predecessor (前任) did, AlphaGo Zero mastered Go in just two days without any human knowledge of the game and defeated AlphaGo by day three, reported The Guardian. It then went on to defeat AlphaGo 100 games to zero. To learn how to play Go, AlphaGo Zero played millions of matches against itself using only the basic rules of the game to rapidly create its own knowledge of it. Like the previous version, it used “reinforcement (增强) learning to become its own teacher,” according to DeepMind’s website. “It’s more powerful than previous approaches,” David Silver, AlphaGo’s lead researcher, told The Guardian, “because by not using human data, or human expertise in any fashion, we’ve removed the constraints (约束) of human knowledge and it is able to create knowledge itself.” AlphaGo Zero’s approach to self-learning is a significant advancement in AI that could be applied to help solve some of the world’s biggest problems, according to a recent research report published in the journal Nature. For example, DeepMind co-founder Demis Hassabis argues that AlphaGo Zero could probably find cures for a number of serious diseases within weeks, according to The Telegraph. Indeed, the AI is now being used to study protein folding, which is connected to diseases such as Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s. So now that AI has exceeded (超过) the bounds of human knowledge, perhaps the question is not about what AI can learn from humans, but what humans can learn from AI. We can only wait and see. 28.What can we learn from the first three paragraphs? A.AlphaGo defeated Lee Sedol five games to zero. B.AlphaGo Zero defeated AlphaGo within one day. C.AlphaGo Zero is the first program to defeat a human at Go. D.AlphaGo Zero has become the new best Go player. 29.How is AlphaGo Zero different from previous Go-playing programs? A.It can collect human knowledge automatically. B.It can create knowledge without human limits. C.It can become its own teacher in learning Go skills. D.It can play many matches without a break. 30.What’s the possible application of AI in the future according to the article? A.Treating diseases. B.Making new Go rules. C.Solving math problems. D.Creating new proteins. 31.What is the author’s attitude towards AI? A.Mixed. B.Hopeful. C.Doubtful. D.Worried. D “I think I’m nothing more than a dead fish.” “I don’t want to do anything. ”“I’m so beat and so sad. “... The young generation in our country used to enjoy their “happy culture” but now they have become “beat and sad” slowly and secretly. Some people even called it “the beat culture”. The “Beat” youths don’t want to do anything. They have no purpose, no desire and they are totally depressed so that they only want to live an aimless life. The “Ge You slouch (葛优瘫)”and the song I feel like having been drained are the examples. Many media concern themselves about this phenomenon and try to persuade the youths into embracing positive and healthy feelings and encourage them to work hard to get rid of decadence. This is really a kind gesture. However, we don’t have to worry too much about this “beat culture.” In fact, it’s not a negative thing. “Beat” never means despair, but a way of self-mockery (自嘲) and pressure relief. In general, the youths in China are not “beat”. According to a recent international research, the youths in China hold positive attitude towards the future. 29% of the Chinese interviewees believe they will live and work in peace in China because “as long as you work hard, you can have your own day”. Around 93% of the Chinese interviewees believe the future is promising because of medicine industry, renewable energy sources and computer. Compared with Chinese youngsters, youths in developed countries are more pessimistic (悲观的). Of course there are some social reasons for the appearing of “the Beat Culture”. As urbanization develops rapidly, youths living in big cities are facing new challenges that their forefathers have never encountered before. Loneliness and feelings of insignificance and powerlessness are easy to get hold of the young people. Without proper care, they could threaten our mentality and cause many social problems. These problems probably need our attention more. 32.“The Beat culture” includes the following examples except that A.the young generation don’t feel like doing anything. B.the young generation consider themselves dead fish. C.the young generation in big cities are facing new challenges. D.the young generation enjoy the song I feel like having been drained. 33.Which word has the most similar meaning with “decadence” in Paragraph 2? A.loneliness B.laziness C.sufferings D.pessimism 34.What can we learn from the passage? A.Most people believe that with hard work, people can have their own day. B.These days, young people suffer much more loneliness than their parents. C.Chinese youths are more negative than young people in developed countries. D.Social development does bring some pressure to the younger generation. 35.What’s the main idea of the text? A.The Chinese youths are not the beat generation. B.How does “the Beat Culture” affect the Chinese youth. C.“The Beat Culture” is positive to Chinese youngsters D.“The Beat Culture” is popular among the Chinese youngsters. 第二节( 共 5 小题,每小题 2 分,满分 10 分 ) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Master Your Deadlines The struggle begins in high school, sometimes earlier. Deadlines, and lots of them, start to pile up. At college, the pressure sometimes leads to last-minute rush an unsatisfactory work. At work, failing to meet deadlines can easily get you fired. 36 Here are a few best practices. ▪Assign deadlines to what matters. If the task isn’t of high importance, don’t set a specific deadline. In this way, you are able to keep it on your radar for a while without feeling pressured. 37 This will provide just enough pressure to ensure you get it done. ▪ 38 Set a personal deadline for yourself a day or two before the actual deadline. 39 If you’re working with a group of people, add in even more time to account for potential follow-ups and the need for approvals. ▪ Keep communicating. 40 This means letting others know when something is taking longer than expected, when a delivery didn’t come in, when a client is not providing the necessary information, etc. Although it may feel embarrassing to admit that something is not on schedule, being honest is much better for relieving your stress. A.Plan for flexible hours. B.Finish your project as early as possible. C.But if an activity is urgent, set a deadline immediately. D.In this way, you’ll never have to stay up late and feel stressed. E.But handled properly, deadlines can actually improve productivity. F.Whenever you feel challenged to finish work on time, communicate. I am writing to ask if you have thought about the needs of disabled customers. I hope you could take the following suggestions into account. To begin with, there is supposed to be wheelchair access throughout the supermarket including public lifts to all floors, which makes the disabled feel they are as important as others customers. Besides, it would be handy to have wide aisles so that a person in a wheelchair has easy access to goods on the shelves. As is known to all, it is annoying if the only disabled toilet is a long way from the supermarket. For disabled customers ,it would be more convenient to place the toilets near the supermarket. Last but not least, more and more disabled people can drive at present , as a result of which parking lots for the disabled should be specially reserved. I would be happy to know if my suggestions have turned out to be useful in your design of the supermarket. Looking forward to your reply. Yours, Li Hua查看更多
