Just possibly, she may be the wisest woman on this planet. Too many people put off something that brings them joy just because they haven't thought about it. Don't have it on their schedule, and didn't know it was coming or they are too strict to depart from their routine.‎ I can't count the times I called my sister and said, “How about going to lunch in half an hour?” She would gasp and stammer (结结巴巴地说), “I can't. I have clothes on the line. My hair is dirty. I wish I had known it yesterday, I had a late breakfast, and it looks like rain.” And my personal favorite response: “It's just Monday.” She died a few years ago. We never did have lunch together. From then on, I've tried to be a little more flexible.‎ Life has a way of going faster as we get older. The days get shorter, and the list of promises made to ourselves gets longer. One morning, we are awaken, and all having to show for our lives is repetition of “I'm going to” , “I plan on” and “Someday, when things are settled down a bit.”‎ When anyone calls my “seize the moment” friend, she is open to adventure and available for trips. She keeps an open mind on new ideas. Her enthusiasm for life is contagious. You talk with her for a while, and you're ready to change your attitude to life.‎ My lips have not touched ice cream in 10 years. I love ice cream. The other day, I stopped the car and bought a tripledecker(烘缸). If my car had hit an iceberg on the way home, I would have died happily.‎ Now go on and have a nice day. Do something you WANT to...not something on your SHOULD DO list.‎ ‎21.The example of the writer's sister serves as________________.‎ A.a debate B.an introduction C.a support D.a conclusion ‎22.The writer thinks that the excuse “It's just ‎ Monday.” is acceptable, because ________.‎ A.it is still likely that they can have lunch together some time later B.it sounds most reasonable of all the excuses C.it shows respect for the writer's suggestion D.it indicates the time when they can have lunch together ‎23.The underlined word “contagious” in the fourth paragraph means ________.‎ A.accurate B.influential C.hopeful D.necessary ‎24.What is the purpose of the writer by writing this passage?‎ A.To suggest how time flies.‎ B.To persuade busy people to relax.‎ C.To advise people to keep their promise.‎ D.To persuade readers to be flexible on their schedule for practical joy.‎ B With hospitals and nursing homes tending to thousands of patients every year, accidents ‎ can—and do—happen. These incidents, whether they are through carelessness or otherwise, can leave patients feeling powerless. That's not the case.‎ ‎ “There is growing public awareness. People are feeling they have more rights and they have tools in hand to make a complaint,” said Ralph Montano, spokesman for the California Department of Public Health, which regulates hospitals and longterm care facilities in the state.‎ That department received more than 6,000 complaints about hospitals in 2007; in the most recent year statistics are available. The complaints can be about mixedup lab results, medicine errors, foreign objects left in a patient during surgery or a host of other topic.‎ Similarly, the California Department of Aging received 43,000 nursing home complaints in 2009. Some said patient abuse or neglect of patients; others reported missing items. And some commented on the quality of the food. ‎ But finding the channels through them to put forward a complaint can be tiring and time consumption. Many consumers simply don't bother, and some become lost in the system. Whether the complaint is against a hospital or a longterm care facility, the process is similar—and many people can help, including the facility's staff, insurance company representatives and state regulators.‎ If you want to make a complaint while in the hospital, Patti Harvey, vice president of quality and patient care services for Kaiser Permanente in Southern California, recommends talking with the bedside nurse. If that doesn't work, you can talk with other people higher in the chain of command, up to the hospital administrator. If the problem isn't still taken care of—say you disagree with your treatment plan or have a problem with your doctor—member service offices at each hospital can help address your concerns.‎ ‎25.Why are there more complaints from patients?‎ A.Because hospitals have more and more rights.‎ B.Because it's convenient for people to put forward complaints.‎ C.Because in the hospital there are more accidents than before.‎ D.Because there are more departments to deal with complaints.‎ ‎26.Many consumers don't make a complaint ‎ because ________.‎ A.few accidents happen B.it takes time to make a complaint C.many complaints are lost D.complaints are bad for a longterm care facility ‎27.The last paragraph mainly tells us ________.‎ A.how to make complaints in the hospital B.something about Patti Harvey C.to solve problems with the hospital quickly D.we should say we disagree with the treatment plan ‎28.Who can help if you complain against a hospital or a longterm care facility?‎ A.Peter—a medical officer from the government.‎ B.Rudy—a headmaster of a medical university.‎ C.Tom—a teacher of a medical school.‎ D.Jack—a representative of an insurance company.‎ C There are thousands of products of all colors and shapes in a supermarket, making you believe that they are worth a try. How? Packaging is the silent but persuading salesman.‎ There on the shelves, each bottle, can, box, and jar has been carefully designed and measured to speak to the inner self of the consumer, because he/she is buying not only a product but also his/her belief in life. Scientists have studied consumer behavior recently and found that the look of the package has a great effect on the “quality” of the product and on how well it sells, because “consumers generally cannot tell between a product and its package. Many products are packages and many packages are products.”, as Louis Cheskin, the first social scientist studying consumers' feelings for packaging, noticed.‎ Colors are one of the best tools in packaging. Studies of eye movement have shown that colors draw human attention quickly. Take V8 for example. For many years, the bright red color of tomatoes and carrots on the thin bottle makes you feel that it is very good for your body. And the word“green” today can keep food prices going up.‎ Shapes are another attraction. Circles often suggest happiness and peacefulness, because these shapes are pleasing to both the eye and the heart. That's why the round yellow M signs of McDonald's are inviting to both young and old.‎ This new consumer response to the colors and shapes of packages reminds producers and sellers that people buy to satisfy both body and soul.‎ ‎29.According to the passage,________ seems to be able to persuade a consumer to buy the product.‎ A.the pleasing color of the package B.the special taste of the product C.the strange shape of the package D.the belief in the product ‎30.If a package or a product is round in shape, it can ________.‎ A.bring excitement to the consumers B.attract the consumers' attention C.catch the eye movement of the consumers D.produce a happy and peaceful feeling ‎31.“And the word ‘green’ today can keep food prices going up.” This sentence suggests that consumers today are ________.‎ A.starting to notice the importance of new food B.enjoying the beauty of nature more than before C.beginning to like green vegetables D.paying more attention to their health ‎32.It can be inferred from the passage that V8 is a kind of ________.‎ A.vegetable dish B.healthy juice C.iced drink D.red vegetable D Living near the beach may come with an extra perk (好处): better health. A new study analyzed information from more than 48 million people in England and found that the nearer they lived to the coast, the more likely people were to report good health within the past year.‎ Living near the coast may be associated with better health because the seaside environment reduces stress, the researchers said. They pointed to another British study that found that people who took trips to the coast experienced more feelings of calmness and relaxation than those who visited urban parks or the countryside.‎ The difference from living near the coast was relatively small. But a small effect, when applied to an entire population, can have a substantial impact on public health, said study researcher Ben Wheeler of Peninsula College of Medicine and Dentistry in Exeter, England.‎ However, it's too soon to advise people to hit the beach to improve health, Wheeler said. The study only found an association, not a causeeffect link, and it's possible that other factors could explain the results. For instance, it could be that people who are wealthier, and therefore healthier, are more able to move to desired locations such as the coast, Wheeler said, a phenomenon known as the migrant effect. But the study did find that the association between coastal living and better health was strongest for those living in the poorest areas, which perhaps indicates that wealth cannot explain the results, Wheeler said.‎ Because the study looked at only England—an island country in which everyone lives within 72 miles of the coast—it's not clear whether the findings would apply to other populations. Far from England, a health expert not involved in the study said that while the British research certainly doesn't prove that people's health and the place they live are linked, it's possible that proximity to the seas does something for our bodies.‎ If future studies confirm the results, the next step would be to find out it is what coastal ‎ environments that can benefit health. Wheeler said it may then be possible to bring those benefits to people living in other areas, through virtual environments, for instance.‎ ‎33.We can conclude from the passage that ________.‎ A.people are encouraged to move to the coast B.people living near the sea may be healthier C.people pay increasingly attention to health D.people are worried about residential environment ‎34.According to the researchers, living near the sea ________.‎ A.doesn't nearly affect the British population B.can cure some difficult diseases in a way C.can help get over one's stress D.means freeing from sadness or troubles ‎35.What Ben Wheeler said means ________.‎ A.the British public health is decreasing B.concrete evidence favors life near the sea C.wealthier people are likely to be healthier D.exact reasons are proposed for further research 第三部分:完形填空(共20小题;每小题1.5分,满分30分)‎ When I stopped by to get a newspaper, a tall, sincere man came over to me asking for help with directions. Learning that you are interested in the pictures about Chinese students doing housework, I am more than delighted. I’m writing to share with you my present life in this aspect.‎ Personally, apart from attending online classes during the epidemic days, I take an active part in doing housework. By making beds, sweeping the floor, tidy rooms and watering flowers instead of my parents, I have not only gained some labour skills, but also felt a strong sense of achievement and self-satisfaction. I even come to find my talent for being a chef, which greatly pleases my parents, saying that they have never been so relaxed. Actually, doing housework is of great help for me to realize how much my parents have done for my comfortable life. That’s why I have decided to keep housework participation as a life-long habit.‎ I’m looking forward to seeing you in your class as soon as possible after the epidemic.‎ Best wishes!‎ Yours,‎ Li Hua
