Evidence is showing that some kinds of chocolate are actually good for you in the following ways:‎ A happier heart ‎ Scientists at Harvard University recently examined 136 studies on cocoa — the main ingredient in chocolate — and found that it does seem to strengthen the heart. Here are many ways to help you save money in flying.‎ Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday are the quietest days to fly, which means cheaper tickets than the rest of the week, especially for early morning flights, because many people don’t like to get up too early.‎ You already know that summer is the most expensive time to fly. The days around holidays can be crazy. You will save much money if you’re willing to travel on the very day, such as on December 25(Christmas) rather than December 24 or 26.‎ Don’t wait until the last minute to book tickets. Many travelers don’t know there is a secret to the best time for booking and getting the best price on your tickets. Booking too early or too late will make you pay more than you need to. Which of the following is true?‎ ‎ A. You can only take two pairs of socks. B. You'd better take less baggage.‎ ‎ C. The food on the plane is cheap. D. The food on the plane is healthy. ‎ ‎ C ‎ Last week I visited my friend Pete in the new home where he lives with his wife and daughter. Pete used to spend his holidays travelling around the world, visiting the pyramids in Egypt or scuba diving (潜水) in the Caribbean. Nowadays he prefers to spend his holidays and weekends making his house look more beautiful. Like hundreds of thousands of other British people, he has discovered the joy of DIY (Do It Yourself), which means if there are any things that need fixing around the house, he will try to do the job himself.‎ As he showed me the new kitchen he put together by himself and the newly painted walls, I asked Pete where he got his inspiration (灵感) from. He told me that his favorite source of ideas was a DIY program on TV.‎ This got me thinking about the great popularity of DIY programs in the UK. Each major channel(频道) has at ‎ least one home or garden improving show and there’s even a satellite channel completely about the subject.‎ I guess it is not really surprising that DIY programs are so popular. Two common sayings in Britain-‘an Englishman’s home is his castle’ and ‘there’s no place like home’-show how important our houses are to us. With the present economic downturn, many people can’t afford to buy a bigger house so they are looking at how they can make their house better without spending a lot of money. DIY is the perfect choice.‎ But be careful! I read a report that said over 230,000 people were injured while doing home improvements in the UK in just one year, including 41,000 who fell off ladders (梯子) and 5,800 who were seriously hurt by hammers(锤子). So I won’t be going down to the hardware store.‎ ‎29. How did Pete spend his holiday in the past?‎ A. Visiting his friends. B. Diving.‎ C. Travelling around the world. D. Making his house beautiful.‎ ‎30. Which might NOT be shown in a DIY program on TV?‎ A. Scuba diving. B. A garden improving feature (特别节目).‎ C. Home improvements. D. Fixing things in kitchens ‎31. Which is NOT the reason why DIY is popular among British people?‎ A. They enjoy DIY. B. They want to make their houses better themselves.‎ C. They can improve their houses without spending much money.‎ D. They want to be on TV.‎ ‎32. At the end of the article the writer wants us to remember _____.‎ A. not to go to the hardware store. B. to be careful not to get hurt while doing DIY.‎ C. to keep watching DIY on TV while drinking a nice cup of tea.‎ D. not to climb ladders or use hammers.‎ ‎ D ‎ A Good Night’s Sleep Sleep plays a very important role in good health and well-being throughout your life. While you’re sleeping, your brain is forming new pathways to help you learn and remember information. Although we all know the importance of getting a good night’s sleep, not all of us know the best way of getting it. A sleep expert, Phil Atherton, gave some top tips for getting the most out of the night, which will leave you ready for action in the morning.‎ According to Phil Atherton, not eating a large meal before bedtime is important for getting a good night’s sleep. The time difference between eating and sleeping should be at least three hours. So you’d better avoid eating any ‎ food three hours before bed, as it will lower your blood sugar during sleep and help reduce damage from too much sugar floating around.‎ It’s also important to find ways to prepare your body for sleep. You can follow a routine like trying not to expose yourself to too much artificial light within 1 hour before bed, as your brain uses light to help set "body clock". Although it might seem unnatural to schedule your sleep, the purpose is to send a signal to your body and mind that it’s time to sleep.‎ Another way to prepare your body for sleep is to get into a relaxed state by taking a bath or listening to soft music. Both of them will help to take the mind off the daytime pressures , calm yourself down and keep yourself from feeling tense(紧张).‎ Having a suitable bed, especially a suitable mattress (床垫), is necessary for a good night’s sleep. Sleep is a personalized activity, and we all use different sleeping positions. Finding the mattress that suits you will reduce back pains that can result from a poor sleeping position. The bed should be four to six inches longer than its tallest user, allowing for space to move around.‎ The recent research is pretty clear that a good night’s sleep in a major component of good health. Since the start of the 21st century, studies have linked a lack of sleep to many diseases, such as diabetes and obesity. Taking action now will lead to long-term benefits for you and those around you.‎ ‎33. What does the author intend to tell us in the passage?‎ ‎ A. When to start a good sleep. B. How to get a good night’s sleep.‎ ‎ C. What to do with sleep problems. D. Why to form a good habit of sleeping.‎ ‎34. According to the author, before going to sleep, you’d better __________.‎ ‎ A. free yourself from tension B. check your blood sugar ‎ C. reduce your pain in the back D. record your biological clock ‎35. Be sure to take your children to the library that day, so that they can borrow a new book or two.‎ Read in a new place Go out of the house to do some reading often.
