Where would you prefer to live? Readers share their opinions.‎ urbexer (China)‎ ‎ I always enjoy living in the big cities as everything is convenient. However, convenience does not necessarily always mean a better life. My flat in Shenzhen is very convenient in terms of location to supermarkets, restaurants and nightlife. However, I would say my quality and enjoyment of life is not good.‎ xiphoid (US)‎ ‎ While I never cared for large cities, my wife loves them. Being from Hongkong, she is an entirely city girl. However, we found we are perfectly happy here in a mid-sized city. Ann Arbor is just the right size. It has 200,000 people, plus a very rich cultural life, thanks to all the students of U of M. It provides just about all the convenience that a large city can offer without the heavy rush hour traffic, heavy pollution and high crime rates.‎ libbycrystal (China)‎ ‎ Personally, I think, struggling in big city is a worthwhile experience; especially when you are young. While those in big cities meet more difficulties than people who live in relatively small and comfortable, it’s worth it. I know people are likely to have lonely moments even while they’re surrounded with people in crowded streets, and I can’t help being in tears sometimes. I do, however, know everything will get better.‎ cyberspook (Australia)‎ ‎ I lived and worked in a mid-sized city by Australian standards for many years. There was plenty of work and ‎ housing prices were high, but the lifestyle was busy and full of stress. When I moved to a very small town on an island, there were fewer jobs here, but the housing prices were cheap, and the lifestyle was light and care free. This kind of life suits me most, and I will not be moving any time soon. Choosing between living in a city or smaller area depends on what your life goals are. If you want money, you should go to a city; but if you want a peaceful life, with good health, then smaller areas all the way.‎ ‎21. According to the passage, ________ prefers to live in big cities. ‎ A. urbexer B. xiphoid C. libbycrystal D. cyberspook ‎22. One reason why xiphoid feels happy in a mid-sized city is that ________. ‎ A. his wife was born there B. the housing price is low ‎ C. it is convenient to live there D. more jobs are offered ‎23. Which of the following is NOT the advantage of living in small cities? ‎ A. less pollution B. rich cultures C. cheap housing price D. more convenience B As the world around them is changing, teenagers continue to need guidance and support from both parents. Studies show that teens who have an active relationship with their fathers are less likely(可能的)to involve themselves in dangerous behaviors and more likely to succeed in school and develop higher self-worth, because their fathers go beyond social expectations to devote attention to them.‎ ‎ Peer(同龄人)pressure has always been a big part of the teens’ experience. Even the best father can’t completely protect their kids from the growing influence of their peer group. However, studies show that teenagers whose fathers focus on their lives are more likely to resist(抵抗)the more bad effects of peer pressure, taking drugs, for example.‎ ‎ Teens may not like to admit it, but they are watching their parents closely and often follow their example. An interesting finding explains just how important parents are, especially Dad. Swiss researchers discovered that if Dad attends church, even though Mom doesn’t, 44 percent of the kids are still more likely to keep going to church as adults. But if Mom goes regularly and Dad never shows up, only 2 percent of the kids continue to attend.‎ ‎ Teenagers face a lot of difficult choices, especially in their later teens. Fathers don’t get to make those choices for them, but they can be influenced. For example, teenagers can learn a lot from their parents’ concern on what to do when they finish high school. Should they go directly to college and, if so, where? Should they consider going to trade schools, joining the army or looking for a job? A father’s guidance brings a long-term perspective that teens often lack to these important decisions.‎ ‎24. Teenagers without fathers’ focus are more likely to _________.‎ A. have higher self-worth B. experience some dangerous things C. become the best students in school D. resist all bad effects of peer pressure ‎25. What does the third paragraph tell us?‎ A. More teenagers pay no attention to their parents.‎ B. Teenagers often treat their fathers as role models.‎ C. Teenagers never attend church with their mothers.‎ D. Fewer teenagers like to attend church with their fathers.‎ ‎26. Which can replace the underlined word “perspective” in the last paragraph?‎ A. point of view B. job C. school D. lots of concern ‎27. What can we learn from the text?‎ A. Fathers should make choices for teenagers directly.‎ B. Teenagers care less about what their parents do.‎ C. Mothers have no effect on their children’s life.‎ D. Teenagers are greatly influenced by their fathers.‎ C BEIJING - With the first mid-autumn festival holiday nearly upon China, many people are asking “what is it for?”‎ An online survey by the website Sohu.com saw 55.7 percent of the 1,313 respondents saying they would spend the holiday with their families. The festival, similar to the Spring Festival or the dragon boat festival , has been a time for family reunion since ancient China.‎ Li Kang, from Pingxiang City of eastern Jiangxi Province, never celebrated the festival with his family during his college years. The real goals include getting exercise, having fun, and learning important social skills, like sportsmanship.‎ ‎ Good sportsmanship is all about respect. Good sports respect the other players on their team. They respect the players on opposing teams. They respect coaches, and they also respect the referees or other officials involved ‎ in their games. 31 They yell at their teammates and they talk back to coaches or referees.‎ ‎ Kids usually learn sportsmanship—good or bad—from the adults in their lives. 32 If parents and coaches show disrespect to other fans, referees, or each other, kids will likely act the same way on the field.‎ ‎ 33 Some of them are very basic and easy to do, like shaking hands with other players before a game. Other examples may take a little more courage, such as acknowledging a great play made by the opposing team.‎ ‎ Learning good sportsmanship is important because it helps you develop an attitude of graciousness (礼貌) and respect that will carry over into all the other areas of your life! 34 Being a good sport in the classroom will eventually lead to being a good sport in the workplace.‎ ‎ So be a good sport in whatever you do! 35 When others see you acting in a way that makes it clear that winning isnˈt the most important thing, you can move on to focusing on the important things, like having fun, getting exercise, and improving your skills.‎ A. Good sportsmanship can be shown in many ways.‎ B. On the contrary, bad sportsmanship is all about disrespect.‎ C. The example you set can be a powerful teaching tool for others.‎ D. Playersˈ parents and coaches set examples that kids tend to follow.‎ E. We can be good sports by encouraging others but not laughing at them.‎ F. Starting as a good sport earlier will help you be a good sport as you get old.‎ G. If youˈre a good sport on the field, youˈll also likely be a good sport in the classroom.‎ 第三部分 英语知识运用(共两节,满分45分)‎ 第一节 完形填空(共20小题;每题1.5分,满分30分) ‎ 阅读下面短文,从短文后各题所给的四个选项(A, B, C和D)中,选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。 ‎ I remember the first day when I saw Sally playing basketball. Suddenly, he suspected that the young man was probably the one who organized the robbery. So he ran even faster on Park Avenue until he caught sight of a taxi. He stopped it and said loudly to the driver, “Take me to the nearest police station immediately! The man behind is the bank thief! Quick! Quick!” So quickly did the taxi run that it disappeared like wind.‎ 第二段版本一:‎ ‎ The taxi stopped in front of the Police Station and Arthur told the police what had happened. Obviously, the police had already got some relevant information. Opening the suitcase, they found a large sum of money inside. Then the police asked Arthur to offer concrete characteristics about the young man, with which the robber was caught and the other suitcase was got back. The bank thanked Arthur a lot and presented him with an award. It was his quick action and brave actions that helped catch the bank thief.‎ 第二段版本二:‎ ‎ The taxi stopped in front of the Police Station and Arthur rushed in, telling a policeman what had happened. Then the suitcase was opened, but to their surprise, what they saw was not money but a camera and some notebooks in it. Just at that moment, the young man arrived in a hurry. He explained that as a journalist he was ‎ going to interview a famous writer. Later, the policeman learnt from the bank that there was no robbery but a film was being made. How funny!‎ 步骤五:核查 核查连接词、下划线标明原文给出的5个以上关键词语、词数、语法词汇和标点等五个方面。诸如at that time、so、then、later等连接词的使用保证了上下文的衔接和连贯。已经使用并用下划线标明了6个关键词语。词数为156词(第二段版本一)或154词(第二段版本二),均在150-160词范围内。最后通读全文确保语法词汇和标点正确无误。‎
