‎ A ‎[2020·福建省质量检查]My neighbor Orlando is a paramedic (护理人员). He and his wife are some of the nicest people I have ever met. A few years back we started this sort of “favor war”, where one of us would do something for the other, such as shoveling (铲) his driveway or helping him build a shed, and next time the other would try to top it with another favor.‎ Yesterday morning there was maybe 2 or 3 feet of snow on the ground and I remembered he shoveled my driveway for me last snowfall. So I took out my shovel and took care of both our sidewalks and driveways because it was my turn to do a favor back. It took a while but I finished and got into my car for work. What I didn't realize was that Orlando had to work that day too.‎ Fast forward to this morning I got a knock on my door. It was him. He immediately shook my hand and informed me that because I shoveled his driveway and sidewalk for him, he was able to get to work earlier. As soon as he started his shift, a call came through that a young boy was in a medical emergency. Luckily he and his partner were only about 2 minutes away, but the next closest ambulance was in 10 minutes. This kid did not have 10 minutes. He barely had 2 minutes. Because my neighbor got to work sooner, the young boy got to live his life.‎ This isn't a brag (吹嘘). This is to inform others that even the smallest favors can have the biggest impacts. It wasn't too much of trouble to shovel his driveway for him, but because I did, the young kid got to see his family again, go back to school again, talk to his friends again and live his life.‎ ‎1.What can we know about the writer and Orlando?‎ A.They once had a conflict.‎ B.They signed a favorable agreement.‎ - 18 -‎ C.They favor shoveling snow together.‎ D.They are always ready to help each other.‎ ‎2.Who saved the boy before it was too late?‎ A.The writer.‎ B.The boy's parents.‎ C.Orlando and his wife.‎ D.Orlando and his partner.‎ ‎3.What does the writer intend to tell us?‎ A.Never ask for trouble.‎ B.No favor is too small.‎ C.One cannot always be lucky.‎ D.Don't lose heart in an emergency.‎ B ‎[2020·石家庄一模]At 9:30 a.m. on a Wednesday morning, I received a notification (通知) that I'd already picked up my phone 30 times that day! “11 left until you go over your goal of 41 pickups,” my screen read. “Put your phone down until 9:52 a.m.! Enjoy your time living in the moment.”‎ These updates were sent via Moment, an app that tracks the screen time, created by Kevin Holesh in 2014 to fight his own device addiction. He was working as an independent app developer, spending hours each day staring at screens. After work, Holesh found that he was looking mindlessly online instead of talking to his wife or taking his dogs for a walk.‎ ‎“I wanted a way of seeing how much time I was sinking into my phone,” he said. “So I came up with something that could monitor my screen time.” Holesh found that he was spending 75 minutes on his phone a day. He added a function to the app that informed him whenever his screen time was more than 40 minutes. “My phone would make a sound like a bee, and I'd go and do something else. It was like something pushing me in the right direction,” he said. Holesh figured that if the system worked for him, it would work for others, and later that year he made Moment a free app. To date, it has been downloaded 8 million times.‎ Besides, Moment also has a“coach” function, offering guided programs to help users focus and be more productive, for $7.99 a month.‎ ‎“I am so much happier, I sleep better, I read more, I take better care of myself, and most of all I am present in my daytoday life,” Jack, a user said. Similar - 18 -‎ ‎ comments on Moment reflect a growing consciousness around “digital wellness”, the name given to lifestyle practices that encourage healthy device use.‎ ‎4.What does the inspiration of Moment come from?‎ A.The creator's own experience.‎ B.The sound made by honey bees.‎ C.Complaints from family members.‎ D.The widespread digital addiction.‎ ‎5.What does Moment do at the expected screen time?‎ A.Monitor the screen and keep a record.‎ B.Make a noise to remind the user.‎ C.Turn off the phone immediately.‎ D.Force the user to take a rest.‎ ‎6.What does the author intend to do in Paragraph 4?‎ ‎ ‎ A.Persuade readers to buy the app.‎ B.Provide readers with some advice.‎ C.Recommend a coach to the readers.‎ D.Introduce more information of the app.‎ ‎7.In which part of a website will you find this text?‎ A.Fashion and Business.‎ B.Sports and Entertainment.‎ C.Health and Lifestyle.‎ D.Art and Design.‎ C ‎[2020·甘肃省高考诊断]Many Westerners have the idea that everyone in China knows how to do kung fu. This is, of course, a_silly_belief. But it is true that kung fu is a big part of Chinese culture.‎ Like most people from the West, I was first introduced to kung fu through Hong Kong action films. Stars like Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan made kung fu popular in the Western world. The flashy and impressive performances they gave in films like Rumble in the Bronx and Enter the Dragon made them household names in the U.S. and elsewhere.‎ However, my own personal interest in kung fu was actually inspired by a hip hop - 18 -‎ ‎ group. WuTang Clan, founded in the early 1990s in New York City, is one of the most influential hip hop groups in history.‎ In their songs, they sometimes mention philosophical concepts that come from Wudang quan — a classic Chinese martial art from which they take their name — and Shaolin Temple. I was just a teenager when I first started listening to WuTang Clan — little did I know that I would actually end up living in China later in my life!‎ I myself do not practice kung fu. However, the concepts behind it are quite interesting to me. There is a Bruce Lee quote that I often think of when I'm struggling with challenges in life.“Be formless, shapeless, like water,” he once said. By this, he meant that you should be ready to adapt to and change your attitudes or beliefs when you face difficulties. I think this is a good way to deal with life.‎ ‎8.What does “a silly belief” in Paragraph 1 refer to?‎ A.All Chinese people can do kung fu.‎ B.China is most famous for its kung fu.‎ C.Kung fu is a big part of Chinese culture.‎ D.Many Westerners admire kung fu.‎ ‎9.What inspired the author's interest in kung fu?‎ A.Hong Kong action movies.‎ B.A TV program about kung fu.‎ C.Kung fu stars in Hollywood.‎ D.A US hip hop group.‎ ‎10.What do we know about the WuTang Clan?‎ A.They have Chinese culture in their songs.‎ B.They taught the author how to do Wudang quan.‎ C.They performed Chinese martial arts in the U.S.‎ D.They showed the author the way to live in China.‎ ‎11.What can we learn from the last paragraph?‎ A.The author was sorry that he couldn't do kung fu.‎ B.The concepts of kung fu change over time.‎ C.The spirit of kung fu helps the author overcome difficulties.‎ D.Bruce Lee was the most popular martial arts master.‎ D ‎[2019·重庆第二次调研]Nowadays, we can read almost all “truths” on social media sites. But are they really reliable? Sites such as the micromessaging service, the - 18 -‎ ‎ social networking site and the photosharing app Instagram might “misrepresent the real world”, according to a study by computer scientists from McGill University and Carnegie Mellon University.‎ The scientists warn that gathering information about public views and trends from these sites is unwise. There are still large parts of the population who do not take part in social media activities. Also, there's a risk that many social media users are underrepresented. Instagram, for example, appeals to younger adults in urban areas while Pinterest is used mainly by females aged 25 to 34. And only 5 percent of the micromessaging service users are over 65 years old, according to the study. However, this is not the only issue, according to the scientific team. The design of a website can influence how people behave online, creating what the researchers call“Internet bias”. For example, microblogging sites such as Weibo promote “popular” stories. It saves time for some but it also limits readers' choice of what they see. In the end, many people open those stories and make them more “popular”. But it's not because they choose those stories. Rather, it is because the content is right in front of them.‎ Besides, it's possible that not everyone on your social networks is real. There might actually be a few fake accounts among them. Fake“bots” pretend to be humans and are often included when measuring or predicting human behaviors online.‎ The findings might be more important than you would think, since many social media studies are used to inform and justify decisions and investments among the public and in industry and government, according to Derek Ruths, an assistant professor of Computer Science at Mc Gill University.‎ If the team is right, you might have to think carefully next time you say,“It's true, you know; I read it on Weibo.”‎ ‎12.Why does the author mention the micromessaging and Instagram?‎ A.Because they are the best social media sites today.‎ B.Because they are not in favor of the current study.‎ C.Because the public are sharing truths on these sites.‎ D.Because information on these sites may not be reliable.‎ ‎13.How is the passage developed?‎ A.By giving examples. ‎ B.By making comparisons.‎ C.By dividing into groups. ‎ - 18 -‎ D.By analyzing causes.‎ ‎14.Which word can best describe the author's attitude toward information on social media sites?‎ A.Ambiguous. B.Favorable.‎ C.Disagreeable. D.Cautious.‎ ‎15.What's the author's main purpose in writing the passage?‎ A.To analyze why information gathered from social media sites may not be trustworthy.‎ B.To remind readers of things they should watch out for when using social media.‎ C.To point out the advantages and disadvantages of social media.‎ D.To recommend popular social networking sites for readers.‎ 第二节 (共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)‎ 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。‎ ‎[2020·哈尔滨市第三中学第一次模拟]Understanding and appreciating abstract art can be tough if you don't have much experience with art.
