My parents were expecting me to become a doctor like them so I was trying to satisfy them. But I was desperately running away from them. I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life. My third term, I ended up with a D in math. I didn’t do that well in my other classes, either. It seemed like all my friends were doing so well, getting opportunities over the summers.‎ My fifth term, I realized that I was awful at higher-level math. I had lost all confidence in myself. I went to a few classes at the beginning of the term, but after by midterm, I had totally stopped. My only relief was the dance team I was on. I would sleep all day, and then go to dance practice, and then go back to sleep. As expected, I failed in all of my classes and had to withdraw(退学) from MIT.‎ I had no choice but to tell my parents. Instead of yelling or hitting me, they just held me and cried. The next day, my dad took a day off from work and took me to a nearby, small arts college.‎ I had lost all confidence in myself. Before my first biology test, I didn’t think I could pass. I did pass. Since I had so much free time, I decided to join a biology lab. I realized that was what I wanted to do! I wanted to be a scientist!‎ This past May, I graduated with the highest honors, and now I have my PhD in ‎ biology. Though it ended up taking me 5 years to graduate from college, I can say now that dropping out of MIT was one of the best things that ever happened to me. The couple, who spent 40 years collecting waste before opening the restaurant, are now busy cooking.‎ What makes the restaurant unusual is that poor people can pay for their food ‎ with recyclable waste instead of money. This is part of the community's solution to reducing waste in the landfill.‎ The restaurant seats about 30 people and serves meals that cost between $0.4 and $0.8 each. Since opening the restaurant, Sarimin and Suyatmi have seen their daily income more than double to $15 a day, compared to when they only depended on picking up plastic and glass to sell.‎ Agus Junaedi, the former manager of Jạtibarang Landfill, came up with the idea for the restaurant in 2017 when Semarang's mayor wanted him to reduce the amount of plastic waste in the landfill. 40% of the 800 tons of waste that is added to the site daily is plastic.‎ The price of plastic was very low at that time and, as Junaedi said,“Naturally, no one wanted to collect plastic waste. So why don't we get the poor to pay for their meal with plastic waste? We hope people change their mind and see waste as a useful thing."‎ Additionally, after a fire in 2017 destroyed nearly 10 acres of land, Junaedi realized that the methane gas(甲烷)in the landfill could be used in life. It is now available to use free of charge for people around Jatibarang, as well as in the Methane Gas Canteen.‎ ‎24. What makes the restaurant special?‎ A. Its location.‎ B. Its delicious and cheap food.‎ C. Its bosses experience and generosity D. Its way of charging customers.‎ ‎25. No place wanted to recycle plastic waste.‎ D. People thought plastic waste was of no value.‎ ‎26. Which of the following words can best describe Agus Junaedi?‎ A Talented B. Creative C. Courageous D. And it symbolizes an early step toward solving what has already been a critical issue: junk in space.‎ Millions of pieces of junk are turning around in orbit, the result of 50 years of space travel and few regulations to keep space clean. ‎ Guglielmo Aglitter, the director of Surrey Space Center, said that an operational version of the RemoveDEBRlS technology would cast a net that remains fastened to the main satellite so the junk can be dragged out of orbit. It could target large pieces of junk, including dead satellites up to 10 meters long.‎ The RemoveDEBRIS satellite will conduct a few more experiments in the coming months, including testing navigation features that could help guide the satellite to a specific piece of debris.‎ Aglietti, the Surrey professor who helped lead the RemoveDEBRIS project, said “The challenge will lie in persuading the authorities to sponsor these tasks.” Aglietti said he hopes RemoveDEBRIS will conduct a few cleanup tasks per year, targeting the largest pieces of junk in the most crowded orbits.‎ ‎27. What is the use of the RemoveDEBRIS satellite?‎ A. Demonstrating space technology.‎ B. Imitating a developing technique.‎ C. Collecting wastes existing in space.‎ D. Symbolizing great progress in space.‎ ‎28. How does the RemoveDEBRlS satellite work?‎ A. By throwing a net to take the junk from orbit.‎ B. By fastening it to the main satellite tightly.‎ C. By dragging satellites up to 10 meters long.‎ D. By targeting large pieces of junk carefully.‎ ‎29. What does the underlined word “sponsor” in the last paragraph probably mean?‎ A. Accomplish. B. Support. C. Oppose. D. Provide.‎ ‎30. What’s the best title for the text?‎ A. The RemoveDEBRIS Project Is Perfect B. How RemoveDEBRIS Is Invented in the Lab C. When situations take an unfriendly turn, we become angry. When others don't agree with us, or act in a manner we find disturbing, anger is a typical reaction. It seems that we feel anger gives us the momentary feeling of power. However, in fact, with the exception of a few cases,an angry reaction rarely improves the situation. It only makes the situation worse. So consider the following alternatives to anger.‎ One is understanding. If we view an individual whose behavior we find unacceptable, we should think each person has a right to live life according to their beliefs, dreams, needs and so on. Even if people are acting inappropriate, you should understand them. If they are struggling, lost, or in pain, you should choose to feel sorry for their suffering. If you do so, your anger will disappear.‎ Humor is another powerful tool for stopping anger because it can help you stay calm when things get bad. Sometimes we take life far too seriously. That is bad for us and anger is easy to happen. We need to use humor to turn any serious situation into a light one. Humor acts as a protective shelter from emotional pain.‎ Therefore, when others behave improperly, find it in your heart to forgive them for their unwise behavior. When life hands you the exact opposite of what you want, take no notice of it. After all, the bad situation is only temporary. So choose these alternative reactions to soften our heart and prevent anger from happening so that we can enjoy our life to the fullest.‎ ‎2019-2020省六校高二期中考试英语答案 阅读理解 ‎21-23DAB 24-26DAB 27-30CABD 七选五 ‎31-35 FCGBE 完形填空 ‎36-40 BACAD 41-45 ABCAD 46-50 BACAD 51-55 BCBAD 语法填空 ‎56 Italian 57 discoveries 58was sent 59 called 60 farther/further ‎ ‎61 a 62 for 63looking 64 that/which 65 totally ‎ 应用文 Dear Eric, ‎ How is everything going these days?
