Fifty-eight years ago, only 4 out of every 100 people in the United States were 65 or older. Today, 10 out of every 100 Americans are over 65. The aging of the population will affect American society in many ways — education, medicine, and business. Quietly, the graying of America has made us a very different society — one in which people have ‎ a quite different idea of what kind of behavior is suitable at various ages.‎ ‎ A person’s age no longer tells you anything about his/her social position, marriage or health. There’s no longer a particular year in which one goes to school or goes to work or gets married or starts a family. The social clock that kept us on time and told us when to go to school, get a job, or stop working isn’t as strong as it used to be. It doesn’t surprise us to hear of a 29-year-old university president or a 35-year-old grandmother, or a 70-year-old man who has become a father for the first time. Public ideas are changing.‎ ‎ Many people say, “I am much younger than my mother — or my father — was at my age.” No one says “Act your age” any more. We’ve stopped looking with surprise at older people who act in youthful ways.‎ ‎21.It can be learned from the text that the aging of the population in America ______‎ ‎ A. has made people feel younger ‎ B. has changed people’s social position ‎ C. has changed people’s understanding of age ‎ D. has slowed down the country’s social development ‎22.The underlined word “one” refers to in the first paragraph ___________ .‎ A. a society B. But for a good many people in the world. In rich and poor countries, choice is a luxury, something wonderful but hard to get, not a right. And for those who think they are exercising their right to make choices, the whole system is merely an illusion, a false idea created by companies and advertiser, hoping to sell their products.‎ The endless choice gives birth to anxiety in people’s lives. Buying something as basic as a coffee pot is not exactly simple. Easy access to a wide range of everyday goods leads to a sense of powerlessness in many people, ending in the shopper giving up and walking away, or just buying an unsuitable item(商品) that is not really wanted. Recent studies in England have shown that many electrical goods bought in almost every family are not really needed. More difficult decision-making is then either avoided or trusted into the hands of the professionals, lifestyle instructors, or advisors.‎ It is not just the availability of the goods that is the problem, but the speed with which new types of products come on the market. Advances in design and production help quicken the process Products also need to have a short lifespan so that the public can be persuaded to replace them within a short time. The typical example is computers, which are almost out-of-date once they are bought. This indeed makes selection a problem. Gone are the days when one could just walk with case into a shop and buy one thing; no choice, no anxiety.‎ ‎ ‎ ‎28. What does the author try to argue in Paragraph 1?‎ ‎ A. The exercise of rights is a luxury.‎ ‎ B. The practice of choice is difficult.‎ ‎ C. The right of choice is given but at a price.‎ ‎ D. Choice and right exist at the same time.‎ ‎29. Why do more choices of goods give rise to anxiety?‎ ‎ A. Professionals find it hard to decide on a suitable product.‎ ‎ B. People are likely to find themselves overcome by business persuasion.‎ ‎ C. Shoppers may find themselves lost in the broad range of items.‎ ‎ D. Companies and advertisers are often misleading about the rage of choice.‎ ‎30. By using computers as an example, the author wants to prove that .‎ ‎ A. advanced products meet the needs of people ‎ B. products of the latest design fold the market ‎ C. competitions are fierce in high-tech industry ‎ D. everyday goods need to be replaced often ‎31. What is this passage mainly about?‎ ‎ A. The variety of choices in modern society.‎ ‎ B. The opinions on people’s right in different countries ‎ C. The Problems about the availability of everyday goods.‎ ‎ D. The helplessness in purchasing decisions ‎ ‎ D.‎ It is quite reasonable to blame traffic jams, the cost of gas and the great speed of modern life, but manners on the road are becoming horrible. Everybody knows that the nicest men would become fierce tigers behind the wheel. It is all right to have a tiger in a cage, but to have one in the driver’s seat is another matter altogether. ‎ Road politeness is not only good manners, but good sense too. It takes the most cool-headed drivers great patience to give up the desire to beat back when forced to face rude driving. On the other hand, a little politeness goes a long way towards reducing the possibility of quarreling and fighting. A friendly nod or a wave of thanks in answer to an act of politeness helps to create an atmosphere of good will and calm so necessary in modern traffic conditions. But such behaviors of politeness are by no means enough. Many drivers nowadays don’t even seem able to recognize politeness when they see it. ‎ However, misplaced politeness can also be dangerous. Typical examples are the driver who waves a child crossing the street at a wrong place into the path of oncoming cars that may be not able to stop in time. The same goes for encouraging old ladies to cross the road wherever and whenever they want to. It always amazes me that the highways are not covered with the dead bodies of these grannies. ‎ An experienced driver, whose manners are faultless, told me it would help if drivers learnt to correctly join in traffic stream without causing total blockages that give rise to unpleasant feelings. Unfortunately, modern drivers can’t even learn to drive, let alone master the roadmanship. Years ago, experts warned us that the fast increase of the car ownership would demand more give-and-take from all road users. It is high time for all of us to take this message to heart. ‎ ‎32. According to the passage, troubles on the road are often caused by _______.‎ A. road conditions B. the speed of modern life ‎ C. the behavior of the drivers D. the large number of cars ‎ ‎33. In the writer’s opinion, ________.‎ A. drivers should avoid traffic jams ‎ B. strict traffic rules are badly needed ‎ C. unskillful drivers should be punished ‎ D. drivers should show road politeness properly ‎ ‎34. The underlined word “give-and-take” in the last paragraph means “______”.‎ A. politeness and impoliteness [来源:学&科&网Z&X&X&K]‎ B. good manners and bad manners ‎ C. offering help to others as much as possible ‎ D. willingness of each person to give in to each other’s wishes ‎ ‎35. Here are some suggestions for speeding a recovery from loneliness.‎ Reach out to others, but start small. A smile and a friendly greeting for the student behind you in line at the cafeteria won’t make you best friends. 36 It also can make it easier to interact the next time.‎ Find a safe place to make connections. If going to the school dance makes you feel like you just don’t belong, try joining a special-interest group. Maybe it’s the drama club or the marching band 37 .‎ Find other ways of making connections. Lonely people hunger for acceptance and friendship. Sometimes feeling accepted and liked comes more easily when you do something for others. 38 Teach a child in reading. Take notes for a disabled classmate. You might be surprised at the connections you make after reaching out in these ways.‎ ‎ 39 Loneliness is an absence of quality friendships, not of a particular quantity of friends. That’s why it’s important to know how to select a friend. The best friendships are those based on similar values and attitudes.‎ You get what you expect, so expect the best. If you expect others to be friendly, you will behave in similar ways.‎ ‎ 40 It goes away as teens learn how to find their way through their social world and connect with others.‎ A. But it will make you both feel pretty good.‎ B. So consider becoming a volunteer.‎ C. Some teens aren’t so adaptable, however.‎ D. Encourage people to be friendlier to you.‎ E. Choose the right people.‎ F. For most young people, loneliness is only temporary.‎ G. Look for a group that allows you to ease in gradually.‎ 第三部分:英语知识运用(共两节,满分45分)‎ 第一节: 完形填空(共20 小题;每小题1.5分,满分30分)‎ ‎ 阅读下面短文,从短文后所给各题的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。‎ In high school I had a math teacher, Mrs. Davies, who took her job seriously and expected her students to put forth the same degree of commitment. The reason is that it takes less time to understand the whole story. Besides, the film is usually more interesting, and it is easier to follow.  Some others have just the opposite opinion. They think that they can get more detailed information from the original. Meanwhile, the language in the book is possibly more lively and beautiful.  Personally, I agree with the second view. Actually I have more reasons for it. I think I can stay at home, reading quietly in a situation of my own, and what’s more, I am able to better understand the author’s ideas. In a word, to read the original work is better than to see the film based on it.‎
