But not Amber Miller, who set off to run the Chicago Marathon while expecting her second child any day. As she neared the final stage of the race, she began to feel pain in the stomach. But the determined athlete managed to cross the finish line in 6 hours and 25 minutes. Unbelievably, the Chicago race was not even baby June's first marathon — Miller ran the Wisconsin Marathon earlier this year, four months pregnant. She also ran another marathon when she was about four months pregnant with her son, Caleb. Although there was extra weight, the seasoned runner's time was just 3 hours off her personal best. Miller began to feel pain near the end of the race, but she was not sure if it was labor (分娩), because she typically feels some pain when she runs while pregnant. After her race her husband drove her to Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield where she gave birth to the healthy 7 pounds, 13 ounce(盎司) baby. Miller decided to run because she and her husband had already signed up for the race. The athletic mother said she experienced an enthusiastic welcome from crowds as she ran along. But the devoted runner, who had completed eight marathons, admitted that she did get a few strange looks along the course. “I know what I can handle. This is something I've been doing for a long time,” the experienced marathon runner said. June was born at 10:29 p.m. on Sunday night after seven hours' labor. “She's absolutely perfect,” Miller said. “We are extremely happy, but very tired.” After her surprising double achievement, Miller says she is planning to take some time off to concentrate on being a fulltime mom. 5.What can we learn from the passage? A.Miller failed to finish the race due to her labor. B.Miller's husband was against her running the race. C.It wasn't Miller's first time to run a marathon while pregnant. D.Miller knew she was going to give birth at the end of the race. 6. What is the name of Miller's kid born right after the Chicago Marathon? A.June. B.Caleb. C.Amber. D.Wisconsin. 7.What can be inferred from the passage? A.Miller will soon return for her favorite marathons. B.The baby was in danger at birth because of the race. C.People have different attitudes to Miller's action. D.Miller's personal best in marathons was over 6 hours. 8.What is the best title of the passage? A.A young American couple loving marathons B.How to finish the latest Chicago Marathon C.How to train a pregnant woman for marathons D.A pregnant woman giving birth after a marathon C Christmas Day is for eating, drinking, watching bad TV — and trying to cover up your embarrassment as you realize your husband's aunt Maud has spent her pension on your present while you bought her a set of Christmas cards. Presentbuying can be a minefield: from how much to spend, to whether to risk surprising receivers with a gift they don't want, to knowing if you should buy your neighbor you only say hello to a little something. Here, FEMAIL has asked experts for their top tips on how to select presents to ensure the only thing that's red this Christmas is Santa Claus' nose.“If you've just started seeing someone you don't need to spend a fortune,” says dating advisor James Preece.“It's much better to impress them with your imagination by choosing a gift that's a little bit different. £20 is about the right amount, with a maximum of £50 if you can afford it.” “Or you don't even need to go that far”,says relationship expert and founder of BeLoveCurious.com, Helen Rice. “Plan to spend a romantic evening together or have a fun day out. Feel free to give the person you're dating something thoughtful, just don't spend a lot of money.” “If you're in a longterm relationship then your budget really reflects on your personal situation,” adds James. “You don't need to go crazy, but it's a great opportunity to show you love and appreciate them.” “It's also best to buy a few cheaper presents rather than big ones. Part of the fun is the mystery and unwrapping, so it will last longer if you give them several to enjoy.” 9.What is the purpose of the first paragraph in this article? A.To arrest the attention of readers. B.To criticize greed of mean couples. C.To describe traditional customs of Christmas Day. D Instagram is containing so many photos of food—now a popup diner in London is taking advantage of this new trend by letting people settle the bill for their meals simply by uploading photos of their dishes to social networks. I always thought people's taking pictures of their food was kind of silly, but at this new popup restaurant in the UK, I'd probably do it too. The Picture House is the world's first paybyphoto restaurant—you order, click a photo of the food, share on Instagram and eat for free! The restaurant belongs to frozen food giant(巨人) Birds Eye, who came up with the idea to cash in on people's addiction to photographing food and sharing the pictures online. They conducted a survey and found that more than half of the British population regularly took pictures of their meals. So they realized it was a better way to advertise their new dining range. The popup diner was open in Soho, London for three days in May, and is now moving to other major UK cities. They serve twocourse meals that customers don't have to pay for, if they photo and Instagram it. The restaurant is a part of Birds Eye's “Food for Life” campaign, a new marketing project that aims at changing the way people look at frozen food.“Taking photos of food enables people to show off and to share their mealtime moments—from the everyday to the special,” said marketing director Margaret Jobling. The reaction to The Picture House has been great so far. And the paybypicture concept has proven to be an effective way. Alternative payment methods are actually gaining popularity among a lot of businesses. Last year, in a cafe in Germany customers paid by how much time they spend there, not by what they eat. 13.Instagram probably is ________. A.a restaurant free of charge B.a new marketing project C.a project used to share photos D.a campaign of “Food for Life” 14.“The Picture House” encourages sharing photos of its food to ________. A.create a new social media trend B.attract more customers C.raise the price of frozen food D.reward the regular customers 15.Which of the following can serve as the best title for the passage? A.Food for Life B.Pay by Picture C.No Need to Pay D.The Popup Diner 第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Do you remember those times when your mother told you to avoid talking to strangers?
