‎2019届二轮复习阅读理解专题记叙文类型模拟试题10篇训练之一 ‎[一]‎ Back in January, I was watching a college football game and came to a realization: As a high school senior, pretty soon, I’ll be the same age as some of the top athletes in the world.‎ This realization was both confusing and comforting. Until this point, I’d always thought of top athletes in another generation. I had no real connection to people in the news or playing sports on TV because they were so much older. But pretty soon, people of my age will be the ones dominating (支配) the news.‎ The comfort came in understanding that as I prepare to graduate from Sanford H. Calhoun High School in Merrick, I’m not that far off from entering the real world, and I will have a chance to make a name for myself.‎ Right now, I’m at the end of one of life stages, with many more to come. As seniors, many in my class developed superiority complexes. We’d see babyfaced ninthgraders and think, “Ugh, those annoying freshmen.” Or we’d hear juniors complain about starting the college application process and say to each other, “Those juniors have no idea what they’re talking about.” Of course, last year’s seniors said the same thing about last year’s juniors, repeating a timeless cycle.‎ Psychologist and author Thomas Armstrong writes that life is made up of 12 stages. He stresses that no stage is more important than another, and each has its own unique gifts. There is no highest point in life, no impressive ending when you are above everybody else. At the same time, there is no lowest point in life; at no point is a human worthless and below others. Just as an infant isn’t below everyone else, our elders aren’t above everyone else.‎ 语篇解读:本文是一篇夹叙夹议文。 ‎ ‎24.What can we know about the author?‎ A.He’ll finish his high school studies about one year later.‎ B.Reflecting on the past is a part of his daily routine.‎ C.Football is a particular favorite with him.‎ D.He dreams of being an excellent athlete.‎ 解析:选A 细节理解题。 A。‎ ‎25.Why did the author find his realization comforting?‎ A.The top athletes are the same age as him.‎ B.There is a possibility that he can be famous.‎ C.He will be admitted to his dream university.‎ D.He’s made full preparations for entering society.‎ 解析:选B 推理判断题。 make a name“出名,成名”。故选B。‎ ‎26.What does the underlined phrase “superiority complexes” in Paragraph 4 mean?‎ A.A habit of making complaints.‎ B.A habit of following in others’ footsteps.‎ C.A feeling that you are better than others.‎ D.A feeling that others are unapproachable.‎ 解析:选C 词义猜测题。根据第四段中的“We’d see babyfaced ninthgraders and think ... repeating a timeless cycle.” C。‎ ‎27.What message is conveyed in the last paragraph?‎ A.Life is meant to be lived and enjoyed.‎ B.Life is never smooth, full of ups and downs.‎ C.One should try to reach his greatest potential.‎ D.Everyone has their own value and position in life.‎ 解析:选D 推理判断题。根据最后一段中的“at no point is a human worthless and below others. Just as an infant isn’t below everyone else, our elders aren’t above everyone else”可知,在任何时候人都是有价值的,不低于他人,亦不高于他人,即每个人在生活中都有自己的价值和位置。故选D。‎ ‎[二]‎ Courtney Holmes offers his young customers a little something extra with their haircuts.‎ ‎“Hey, how are you doing? What grade are you in? What’s your favorite book? Yeah, I got it.” If you thought you’d walked into a library with a greeting like that, you wouldn’t be too far off.In fact, you’ve entered the workplace of Courtney Holmes, the Storybook Barber.‎ Two years ago, Dubuque, lowa, held its first annual Back to School Bash, offering needy families a chance to learn about free resources in the community.Holmes agreed to take part in it.He was holding down two jobs at the time — one with the city’s public works department, the other as a barber.Saturday was his busiest haircutting day, but he chose to devote his time to underprivileged (底层的) kids so they’d look sharp on that first day of classes. But then he had a sudden idea.“The kids should earn their free haircut by having to read a book to me.” Holmes said.‎ The idea was so popular that he continued it the first Tuesday of every month for the next two years.5 to 10yearold kids, would hold a favorite book, settle into the barber chair, and read aloud while Holmes gave them a haircut. If they had any difficulty, Holmes was there to help. After the haircut, they’d review the book, from the characters and vocabularies to the themes — just like in school, only more fun.“These kids are eager ‎ to learn,” said Holmes.“And they are able to open their hearts there.”‎ Holmes admits he, too, benefits from the activity.“There was a sevenyearold boy who struggled through his book, stuttering (口吃) over words even though he didn’t have a stutter,” said Holmes. He had the boy take the book home and practice.“When the child came back next time, he read it with no problems. That inspired me.”‎ 语篇解读:本文是一篇记叙文。热心人士Courtney Holmes为学生提供免费理发服务的同时,还为他们创造了读书的良好氛围。‎ ‎★7.Why did Holmes take part in Back to School Bash?‎ A.To earn more money.‎ B.To help poor kids look good.‎ C.To reduce the parents’ pressure.‎ D.To work in the local schools.‎ 解析:选B 细节理解题。根据第三段的“but he chose to devote his time ...so they’d look sharp on that first day of classes”可知,Holmes提供免费的理发,让孩子们在开学时显得精神些。 ‎ ‎★8.How often did Holmes provide free haircuts during the two years?‎ A.Every Saturday. know what they’re trying to do.They want people to talk to each other without being consumed by technology. They want to stress the relational aspect of coffee shops and would rather hear many voices having deep discussions than see keyboards or eyes staring at a cell phone. However, their good intentions are often mistaken by consumers, me included.‎ One snowy day, a friend and I decided that it would be a great idea to go to a local coffee shop and get our work done there. We found a place that had unique coffee flavors and great reviews. It was a bit of a walk from where our subway dropped us off, but we thought it was worth it.‎ We walked through the snow and my feet were almost frostbitten (冻伤的) because the boots I wore were not warm as I had originally assumed.About 10 minutes later, we found the coffee shop and our blue lips were eagerly looking forward to that warm drink. As we walked up to the door, we saw the sign, “No WiFi.” In anger, we looked at each other and said
