However, sleep experts have shown that newborns dream the most in the first two weeks after birth. Babies spend most of their sleeping time in REM(rapid eye movement) stage. As dreaming takes place in a light state of sleep, newborns tend to wake up due to noises, movements and other factors. When dreaming, newborns make a few noises and their eyes move. They may move around the sides or up and down. They may laugh, scream, or cry during the REM sleep. Also, their facial muscles, hands, and legs move, due to which they may wake up. So wrapping a baby in swaddling(裹紧的) clothes can keep the baby’s body from moving and help them sleep better. As babies grow, their body movement decreases when dreaming. Studies say that the brain activity associated with dreaming is essential for the babies’ mental development. During the REM stage, the flow of blood to the brain increases. As a result, certain nerve proteins are produced, which are the building units of the brain. Babies get stimulation from what they see, hear, or feel. The brain processes the information acquired while awake, and stores what is essential to the individual. A study concludes that babies learned while they were dreaming. What’s the time for babies to start dreaming? Researchers say that before birth, babies start experiencing REM sleep around week 25, and so they may start dreaming at the point. On the contrary, some psychologists believe that children start having dreams when they are about 5 years old. At that age, they start becoming aware of themselves and begin to understand the things around them, which is what dreams are actually made of. 4. What may babies do in the REM stage? A. make faces B. stay awake C. burst into laughter D. make eye contact with others 5. What’s the second paragraph mainly about? The 800-year-old landmark suffered great damage to its top, but thankfully the most valuable religious relics and cultural treasures were undamaged. So a US publishing company GoArchitect organized the People’s Design Competition to invite designers, worldwide to share their ideas of rebuilding the French landmark. The open call attracted more than 200 proposals from 56 countries and regions. In the end, Chinese architects Cai Zeyu and Li Sibei won the competition with their striking design. They are both the post-90s generation. Named “Paris Heartbeat”, the design replaces the old top with a kaleidoscope( 万花筒) of multifaceted mirrors, which is combined with a mirror roof, reflecting the ever–changing urban environment. The kaleidoscope is the floating “time capsule”, at the top using magnetic levitation(磁悬浮) technology, which is meant to open every half century. The “time capsule” moves up and down, breathing and beating together with the city. “I believe that the ‘time capsule’ can be achieved with present technology,” Cai told the Global Times. The pair hoped that their design, Paris Heartbeat, could meet people’s high expectations for the rebuilding. As Cai and Li told GoArchitect, “Notre Dame witnessed Parisian history. It burns, survives and co-breathes with the ever-changing world…The 2019 fire will mark a new era.” Though people still don’t know what kind of design the French government will choose, it’s clear that people around the world hope that the lost beauty of Notre Dame will come back. The right amount of sleep is essential for anyone who wants to do well in tests or sports. And lack of sleep affects everything from a person's ability to pay attention in class to his or her mood. It also damages teens’ ability to do their best in athletics. Unfortunately, research shows that many teens don't get enough sleep, and more than 20% of high school students fall asleep in class. Until recently, teens were often blamed for staying up late, oversleeping for school, and falling asleep in class. But recent studies show that teens’ sleep patterns actually differ from those of adults or kids. These studies show that during the teen years, the body’s biological clock is temporarily reset, telling a person to fall asleep later and wake up later. This change might arise from the fact that the brain hormone melatonin (褪黑素) is produced later at night for teens than it is for kids and adults. This can make it harder for teens to fall asleep early. These changes in the body's biological clock are in line with a time when they're busier than ever. For most teens, the pressure to do well in school is heavier than when they were kids, and it's harder to get by without studying hard. And teens also have other time demands — everything from sports and other extracurricular(课程外的) activities to fitting in a part-time job to save money for college. Early start time in some schools may also play a role in this sleep shortage. Teens who fall asleep after midnight may still have to get up early for school, meaning that they may only squeeze in 6 or 7 hours of sleep a night. A couple hours of missed sleep a night may not seem like a big deal, but can create a noticeable sleep shortage over time 【答案】Possible Version one: Although enough sleep plays an important role to study efficiently and perform in sports, researchers indicate many teens are suffering sleep shortage. ( 要点1) The major factor lying behind is the change of adolescent biological clock, which causes them to sleep late. (要点2) Meanwhile, busy and challenging high school life leaves them less time for a good sleep. ( 要点3) Early morning classes are also to blame for its contribution to teens' sleep loss. ( 要点4) 68 words Possible Version two: Researches show that many teenagers lack enough sleep, which is vital to their academics and athletics. ( 要点1) The change of teens' body biological clock making teenagers night owls, may account for this problem. ( 要点2) Another reason is that teens have to lessen their sleep time to catch up with their busy and challenging school life. ( 要点3) Additionally, school early schedules add fuel to adolescent sleep insufficiency. Researches show that many teenagers lack enough sleep, which is vital to their academics and athletics.句中that引导宾语从句,which引导非限制性定语从句。 查看更多
