Dad did some research and had no difficulty in finding us cheap tickets online. On the day of our flight, we had to wake up very early. When we checked our bags in, we found that one bag weighed too much, so we had to pay a fine. After that, dad insisted that we go and have some breakfast at the airport restaurant. We had a lot of fun watching many different people there. Then we realized it was getting late, so we rushed to the gate. It took one hour for everyone to get on the plane, but finally the door was shut and we were on our way! I think my favorite experience during our trip was our visit to Mount Rainier, a volcano near Seattle. It was nothing like I had expected. Before we left, my aunt lent us hats to protect us from getting sunburned, so I supposed that it would be very hot. Imagine my surprise when we drove up the mountain and I discovered the top was covered with snow and ice.! My uncle led us to a small path beyond the main trails to increase our chances of seeing wildlife. We walked over a small hill, and suddenly before us there appeared a field of snow. Small wild flowers grew up through the snow; underneath the snow we could hear rushing water—a small stream. Little animals stood still to avoid being noticed; tiny birds rose into the air. It was the most beautiful sight that I’d ever seen. 21. What ticket did the father buy for the family? A. Bus B. Ship C. Train D. Airplane 22. Why did they pay a fine? A. Because they got up late. B. Because they didn’t wait in line. C. Because they came to the airport late. D. Because their bag was overweight. 23. What was the writer’s most impressive experience? A. The flight to Seattle B. The breakfast in the airport C. The visit to Mount Rainier D. The discovery of a small stream 24. Why did they choose a small path instead of the main trails? A. To enjoy more of the wildlife B. To take a shortcut to save time C. To avoid the snowy road D. To avoid being attacked by animals B Are your children liked by their teachers? All parents want their children to impress their teachers and succeed in school. You can get your children to impress their teachers by following these easy steps. Make sure they’re prepared. Teachers are impressed by children coming to school prepared to learn. Make sure they have everything they need—pencils, textbooks, erasers and so on. Require them to be active in class. Teach them to ask teachers questions when they don’t understand something, some children think teachers are bothered by questions, but most teachers are impressed when children take the initiative(采取主动) in asking questions. They should take part in class discussions, giving their opinions politely. Keep your children healthy. If your children are tired and hungry, they won’t be ready to learn. Children need at least 8 to 10 hours of sleep per night. Feed your children a solid breakfast and prepare a healthy lunch. Provide them with fruit and other healthy foods—apples or bananas are better for them than cookies. Make sure that your children do their homework. If they really don’t understand it , discuss it with them patiently. Don’t help them do their homework. Teachers can always tell who it is that does the work. Teach your children good manners and habits. Children need to arrive at the school punctually, and be polite to their teachers and classmates. Parents need to teach these skills at home. Nothing is sweeter than children who say”please” and “thank you”, and these are children their teachers are certain to love. 25. The first paragraph serves as . A. an explanation B. an introduction C. a background D. an example 26. What should parents do according to the passage? A. They should ask their children’s teachers questions at times. B. They should prepare their children cookies as well as fruits. C. They have to require their children to get materials for learning themselves. D. They ought to have discussions over difficulties with their children patiently. 27. The main idea of the passage is that being parents, you should . A. Help your children to impress their teachers at school. B. Ask your children to get ready for classes before going to school C. Teach your children to be polite to both their teachers and classmates. D. Remind your children to observe all the rules when at school. C People from East Asia tend to have more difficulty than those from Europe in distinguishing facial expressions — and a new report published online in Current Biology explains why. Rachael Jack, University of Glasgow researcher, said that rather than scanning evenly(均匀 的) across a face as Westerners do, Easterners fix their attention on the eyes. “We show that Easterners and Westerners look at different face features to read facial expressions,” Jack said. “Westerners look at the eyes and the mouth in equal measure, whereas Easterners favor the eyes and neglect (忽略) the mouth.” According to Jack and her colleagues, the discovery shows that human communication of emotion is more complex than previously believed. As a result, facial expressions that had been considered universally recognizable cannot be used to reliably convey emotion in cross-cultural situations. The researchers studied cultural differences in the recognition of facial expressions by recording the eye movements of 13 Western Caucasian and 13 East Asian people while they observed pictures of expressive faces and put them into categories: happy, sad, surprised, fearful, disgusted, angry, or neutral. They compared how accurately participants read those facial expressions using their particular eye movement strategies. It turned out that Easterners focused much greater attention on the eyes and made significantly more errors than did Westerners. “The cultural difference in eye movements that they show is probably a reflection of cultural difference in facial expressions,” Jack said. “Our data suggest that whereas Westerners use the whole face to convey emotion, Easterners use the eyes more and mouth less.” In short, the data show that facial expressions are not universal signals of human emotion. From here on, examining how cultural factors have diversified these basic social skills will help our understanding of human emotion. Otherwise, when it comes to communicating emotions across cultures, Easterners and Westerners will find themselves lost in translation. 28. The discovery shows that Westerners _____________. A. pay equal attention to the eyes and the mouth B. consider facial expressions universally reliable C. observe the eyes and the mouth in different ways D. have more difficulty in recognizing facial expressions 29. What does the underlined word “they” in Paragraph 6 refer to? A. The participants in the study. B. The researchers of the study. C. The errors made during the study. D. The data collected from the study. 30. What can be the best title for the passage? A. The Eye as the Window to the Soul B. Cultural Differences in Reading Emotions C. Effective Methods to Develop Social Skills D. How to increase Cross-cultural Understanding 第二节(共 5 小题;每小题 2 分,满分 10 分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余 选项。 There are five keys to success in learning a foreign language. Spend the time. By far the most important factor is how much time you are immersed(浸入) in the language. 31 This means spending time enjoyably connected to the language you are learning. Listen and read every day. Listen wherever you are on your MP3 player. 32 Listen to and read things that you like, things that you can mostly understand, or even partly understand. If you keep listening and reading you will get used to the language. One hour of listening or reading is more effective than many hours of class time. 33 Build up your vocabulary, you’ll need lots. Start to notice words and how they come together as phrases. Learn these words and phrases through your listening and reading. Gradually you will be able to use them. Do not worry about how accurately you speak until you have accumulated plenty of words through listening and reading. Take responsibility for your own learning. If you do not want to learn the language, you won’t. 34 Do not wait for someone else to show you the language, nor to tell you what to do. Discover the language by yourself, like a child growing up. 35 Do not worry about what you cannot remember, or can’t yet understand. It does not matter. You are learning and improving. The language will gradually become clearer in your brain, but this will happen on a schedule that you can’t control. So just make sure you spend enough time with the language. That is the greatest guarantee of success. A. Relax and make sure of the time spent with the language. B. Focus on words and phrases. C. Read what you are listening to. D. Chat with others in the language on the Internet. E. If you do want to learn the language, take control. F. The more time you spend with the language, the faster you will learn. G. There are hundreds of easy conversations for you to practice speaking. There was once a man who met with a shipwreck (船只失事) and landed on a deserted island. Believe it or not, everyone has these feelings at some point, and everyone should learn how to deal with them properly. First of all, you need to keep a positive attitude and not take things to heart. That someone got a better grade than you doesn’t mean that they are smarter—perhaps they studied longer or knew the material more. It’s easy to become frustrated if you are not doing as well as your friends, but being optimistic will help you deal with future similar situations. Secondly , if students at school are bullying you , know when to stand up for yourself. Don’t let other classmates make you feel that you are not good enough. They are simply insecure and do not know how to deal with the pressures of school. They are just trying to make others feel bad, so they can feel better about themselves. Lastly, it is necessary to keep things correctly. For any situation that is stressful, take a second look from a different point of view. When I look back to the frustrations of my high school days, I notice that many of them seem very unimportant to me now. It’s not easy to be confident when there are so many students who seem like they "have it all", but try to realize that you, too, are good enough. It’s not a competition about who is smarter, more beautiful—everyone is different—so believe your individuality. _______________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________________ ______ 【参考答案】 一.听力:(1-20,每题 1.5 分 ,共 30 分) 1-5 CABBA 6-10CBACB 11-15CAABC 16-20CABAC 二.阅读:(21--30,每题 2.5 分,共 25 分) 21-24DDCA 25-27 B DA 28--30 A A B 三.七选五(31--35, 每题 2 分,共 10 分) 31-35 FCBEA 四.完型:(36--55,每题 1.5 分,共 30 分) 36-40 CBAAC 41-45 BDDBA 46-50 DDADD 51-55 BABCB 五.语法填空:(每题 1.5 分,共 15 分) 56.in 57.to live 58. an 59. asked 60.longer 61. whether/if 62. moving 63.fairly 64. am waiting 65. which 五.应用文 (满分 15 分) The Woman I Admire Most The woman I admire most is Marie Curie. M: It’s a simple story with a happy ending, but, luckily, they had a very strong actor, he managed to carry the whole play. Text 2 M: Have we missed it? The man said it’s only 5 blocks away opposite the bank. W: wait a minute. The Chinese restaurant? The National bank? There it is, the Radisson Hotel. Text 3 M: Let’s meet at 20 to 5. W: Well. Could we make it 20 past 5? W: That’s a bit late for me. I could manage 10 past. M: OK. See you then. Text 4 M: What time are we leaving for the outing? W: I’ll phone you tomorrow. I should have everything sorted out by then. Text 5 W: Thanks for all you’ve done for me. Hey, listen, would you like to go to see a film sometime? M: Yeah, that’d be great. I’d love it. Text 6 W: Hey, where is everybody? M: They took Ben to the park. Where have you been? W: Sorry, I’m late. I picked up the cake and it took me longer than I expected. When will the party start? M: Ben invited eight children from school. And they’ll arrive at about 2 in the afternoon. W: OK. Then I’ll put the candles on the cake and leave it in the kitchen and then I’ll come and help set the table. Text 7 M: So, Macy, how was your holiday? W: Oh, we loved it. Tom liked Germany best, but France was my favorite. M: So did Rachael finally go with you? W: No, she wasn’t able to. She was called away for a business trip to China. M: That’s a pity. So where exactly did you go and visit? W: Well, we traveled all over, Italy, Spain and Holland; we even bathed in a Swiss lake. M: You did, really? Text 8 W: Bob, I’m sure you know about second-hand smoke. M: Of course, I do. W: But have you heard about third-hand smoke? M: Third-hand smoke? I’m afraid not. What is that then? W: Well, it is here in today’s paper. Parents may think they are protecting children from second-hand smoke when they smoke outside their home or only when the children are not there. But now researchers are warning about what they call third-hand smoke. When you smoke, dangerous matter from cigarettes get into your hair and clothing. As babies are the weakest, when you come to a baby, you pass it to the baby and increase the chances of disease in the baby. M: Is that so? In that case I have to say that I should never get close to a baby. W: That’s right. Actually all smoking parents should do the same or better give it up completely. Text 9 M: Hello, welcome to our program "Today City". I’m Larry. We’re going to Louisville Kentucky where our guest Michelle Ray comes from. She is proud of her middle-sized city with a small town feel and big city dreams. Now, Michelle, tell us about your city. W: Thank you, Larry. Here is my city. Louisville is my city. The first place I take visitors from out of town is to the Highlands for shopping and night life. When I have delicious Asian food I always go to the Zen Garden which provides wonderful all vegetable dishes. M: Wow, that’s interesting. Many people go for healthy food now. W: You can say that again. If I want to go camping and fishing, I go to the Red River area. For complete quiet I can hide away in my house with a good book from one of our public libraries. M: That all sounds very exciting. I’m sure some of our listeners will include Louisville in their travel plan for their next holiday. Thank you, Michelle. Text 10 M: We are glad to have Dr. Garfield to talk to us today about dreams. Let me start by asking the first question. Does everyone dream? W: It appears that everyone does. Mostly when people say that they never dream, what they really mean is that they don’t remember their dreams or they don’t think their dreams are important. The reason behind is that they might have been made fun of with a child when they first reported their dreams or it was so frightening that they just turned off dreaming completely. The other day, someone named Davis came to me and said that he used to be a great dreamer, but suddenly he stopped having dreams. I asked him what it happened. It turned out that his brother died by heart attack and he never expected that such a terrible thing would happen to a young person. Generally, when there was some frightening event and dream about it was too terrible. People prefer not to dream about it. Actually the worst thing you can do is stop dreaming. Because it means that the bad experience would be too painful to even appear in dreams. As long as you dream about it and even the dream is frightening, your mind is working on it. My personal opinion about what dreams do is that they help us deal with our problems. We see certain patterns take place in dreams. When a person is hurt deep inside, when a person is seriously ill or when a person has been really sad, if people turn off their dreams totally, it means they don’t love themselves to even think about it.查看更多
