On the contrary, it means allowing children to have more responsibilities and freedom as they grow older. Generally speaking, the goal is to let go, and letting go requires trust. Parents' trust in their children might include “I can count on you to be honest, to keep your promise, and to treat me with respect.” ‎ As teens get older they spend less time with their parents and more time with their friends, on work and other activities away from home. Parents have to trust them to make a lot of decisions. Parents often worry that their teens will make poor decisions when faced with choices or situations they might not be ready to handle. Trust is a balance between the fear of what might happen with the knowledge of past decisionmaking and responsibility taking. If a teen has always driven the car safely in the past few months, his parents may be willing to trust him to drive longer distances. ‎ Trust is a twoway street. Fear can also make it difficult for teens to trust their parents. Teens might fear that their parents will take away their freedom, try to control their lives, or embarrass them in front of their friends. Trust between parents and teens makes it easier for teens to talk with their parents when something goes wrong. The teens must get rid of the fear that their parents will be angry, so that they can feel confident that regardless of what has happened, things can be worked out.‎ To build up trust, parents should listen to teens when they freely share the things about themselves and their lives. When teens trust parents enough, they tend to speak openly about their lives, and parents will be in a good position to learn about and affect some of their most important decisions. It is also important to listen to parents so teens will feel comfortable when sharing their thoughts and experiences with their parents.‎ 参考范文:‎ The goal of parenting is to stop having the children under parents' wing and enable children to be more responsible and independent (要点1), in which trust from parents matters a lot. (要点2) It requires cooperation to build up the trust between parents and teens (要点3), because it can rid the teens of fear and help with open communication.(要点4)‎
