You aren’t able to do your best and keep up with all of your responsibilities at school unless you sleep well. Most experts agree that the best number of sleeping hours is eight, and this has been accepted as common sense for as long as I can remember. However, I was young once and I know that most of you get much less sleep than that—and in some cases it will be influencing your schoolwork. I read an interesting article in a teachers’ magazine recently. They did a study of 848 students in Wales. Worryingly, the results showed that teenagers are facing a new problem. They may go to bed and get up at proper times but a growing number of them are waking up in the middle of the night, not to use the bathroom or have something to eat but because of FOMO—fear of missing out, which brings worrying influence on their sleep and schoolwork. According to the article, schoolchildren are having problems because more and more of them wake up during the night to check social media. Afraid of missing a comment(评论) or an opportunity to take part in a conversation, teenagers are waking at all times of the night, going online and getting involved. All this when they should be sound asleep. Experts are worried and the report shows some facts from the study that I’d like to share with you: ·23% of 12 to 15-year-olds wake up nearly every night to use social media. ·One in three students are always tired. ·Students who use social media during the night are more likely to be anxious(焦虑). Are you experiencing FOMO? If yes, I’d like to ask you to be responsible for your sleep when it comes to social media. Be brave! Switch off your devices(设备) at night. The world won’t end and your social media will be waiting to greet you in the morning! I give you my word that you won’t miss anything important just because of a good night’s sleep. 9.We can learn from the passage that FOMO is . Ⅲ. Building Your Business, Building Your People What an exciting thing to do—Develope a successful business! I’m reminded every day of some important ideas for progress. Here are some ideas to keep in mind that can make a significant difference in a team: · Understand your people If I want my team to go and grow with me, I need to find out what excites them. What do they need in their work environment to improve their mental well-being? What are their fears and concerns, and how can I help them manage these fears and concerns? What are their values and goals? · Help people build self-confidence During my early years in management, I realized the great power of expectations. As I found, people largely lived up to my expectation of them.So I learned that if I want to build my business through my people, I have to build their own belief in their ability to achieve. This belief must be educated. If I want them to achieve more, I must help them build their trust in themselves first. · Develop people’s recognition(认可) Whenever I speak and give advice to people, they tell me they don’t get enough recognition.Sad, isn’t it? But how much recognition do they give to others? In fact, recognition could be developed by praising and appreciating each other in a team.Encourage everyone in your team to recognize achievements in others.Teach your team to ask for the opinions of others if they’re not receiving recognition. · Encourage people to be creative 5 We have created our life just the way we choose to have it, or at least the way we’ve settled for it.Those who have been told they are creative will probably use their creativity bravely.Others who haven’t had their creativity encouraged will mostly believe they are uncreative.I suggest you encourage your people to be creative and brave in trying out new ideas. 12.How many pieces of advice does the writer give to build your business? 13.What do you need to do if you want your team to go and grow with you? 14.Is it important to help people build self-confidence in your business? 15.How did the writer develop his people’s recognition in the team? 16.What can we learn from the writer according to his experience? 1.C 根据上文“I used to have little passion in my life. But what happened the other day changed my mind.” 2.B 根据上文的“That day I went home in Mom’s car.” B。 3.A 4.A 5.C ask for…索要; wait for…等待;pay for…付费;look for… 根据上文的“But why doesn’t he use the money to buy food or clothes?” 12.Four. 13.I need to find out what excites my people. 14.Yes./Yes, it is. 15.By praising and appreciating them. 16.If you want to be successful in your business, you must build your people.Trust your people and try to help them to be self-confident, to receive recognition and to be creative.
