And it's not a truth that is easy to hear. Many different things are needed to make smartphones. Obviously they need plastic and steel—but that's just the beginning. Smartphones also use rare elements, which are also known as “conflict elements(冲突元素)”. That's because these elements largely come from areas that suffer from war and poverty(贫穷). Researchers at England's University of Plymouth did an experiment to draw people's attention to the use of conflict elements. They used a machine to break an iPhone 4S into little bits and pieces, according to The Mirror. They found that the phone had a great deal of silver, gold, cobalt(钴) and other elements. This means that to create one phone, workers would need to mine 10 to 15 kg of ore(矿石). Unfortunately, mining the ore can be bad for the environment, as it pollutes the water and soil. In addition, some of these elements are sold to support armies in war-torn areas. And there is another big problem with mining conflict elements: illegal(非法的) child labor. For example, cobalt mines in Africa have been using child workers to mine ore, Fox News reported. Luckily, there is some good news. Companies like Apple have promised to recycle more of their goods and fight child labor. However, these promises have yet to be carried out. “We hope that consumers(消费者) can now look at their phones in a different light, not just as a high-tech thing, but also as an item that is made from raw materials, which are mined,” said Dr. Arjan Dijkstra, lead researcher for the breaking experiment. 1、2题完成句子;3题简略回答问题;4题找出并写下第二段的主题句;5题将文中画线句子译成汉语。 1.To make a phone, will be needed to mine. 5 2.African cobalt mines illegally use to mine ore. 3.Why did the researchers at England's University do the experiment? 4. 5.
