The wonderful fighting abilities and the world-saving adventures are much more colourful than most people’s everyday lives. Well, Cody Banks is just like any other boy, except that he is not just dreaming. He has a big secret his friends never know about. He was trained to be a spy by a special CIA programme, which was made to look like a summer camp. He learned high-speed driving, hand-to-hand fighting and the use of high-tech tools. After proving he could become a young hero by saving a baby from a runaway car, Banks gets his first real task. He must make friends with a popular girl at school, Natalie Connors. Then, he must spy on her father, a scientist who has developed a dangerous technology. Banks must stop a group of bad people from forcing Natalie’s father into using the technology to endanger the world. The CIA may have taught him first-class self-defence moves, but they didn’t show him how to talk to girls. Banks has zero ability when it comes to dealing with girls. How can he get around his problem and get an invitation to the girl’s upcoming birthday party? Will he finally become Natalie’s boyfriend and find out whatever he can about her father’s work? Agent Cody Banks has everything that young people are interested in: big explosions, breath-taking performances and funny girl-dating experiences. It was listed No.2 in the American box office last week. “This story is interesting and fun for the whole family to enjoy, and especially cool for young boys,” said Paul Perkins, a film reviewer in the US. 25. To introduce a new film C The World Meat Free Day for 2017 falls on 12, June, but what would actually happen if the whole world suddenly went vegetarian(素食的)permanently? If vegetarianism were accepted by everyone by 2050, the world would have about seven million fewer deaths every year. No meat would lower the chances of some diseases or even some cancers and so save the world 2-3% global GDP in medical bills. Food-related emissions would drop by around 60%. This would be due to getting rid of red meat which come from methane (甲烷) producing livestock (家畜) — from people’s diets. Turning former pastures (牧场) into native habitats and forests would slow climate change and bring back lost biodiversity, including some animals which were previously pushed out or killed in order to keep cattle. However, farmers in the developing world could really suffer. Arid and semi-arid lands can only be used to raise animals as there’s no or little water in these places, such as the Sahel land strip in Africa next to the Sahara; nomadic (游牧的) groups that keep livestock there would be forced to settle permanently and lose their cultural identities if there were no more meat. Losing meat also means that we also lose traditions. There’s no more Christmas turkey. We would need to replace meat with nutritional substitutes, in particular for the world’s estimated two billion-plus unhealthy or weak people for lack of nutrients. Animal products contain more nutrients per calorie than staples like grains and rice. Everybody currently engaged in the livestock industry would need to be retrained for a new career. This could be in agriculture, reforestation or producing bioenergy. Failing to provide career alternatives could lead to mass unemployment and social problems, particularly in traditionally rural communities. 29. The passage is mainly about______. A. what future life will be like B. why there is a World Meat Free Day C. the influence of a meat free world D. the positive and negative sides of our life 30. In what way would people suffer from a vegetarian world? A. Famers’ lands would become too dry to raise livestock. B. We would lose some traditions where meat is needed. C. All of us would be unhealthy and weak for lack of nutrients. D. Nomadic groups would keep their livestock where they settle. 31. The underlined word “arid” in Paragraph 3 means “______ _”. A. dry B. wet C. hot D. cold D It’s generally believed that people act the way they do because of their personalities and attitudes. They recycle their garbage because they care about the environment. They pay $5 for a caramel brulee latte because they like expensive coffee drinks. It’s undeniable that behavior comes from our inner dispositions(性情), but in many instances we also draw inferences about who we are, as suggested by the social psychologist Daryl Bern, by observing our own behavior. We can be strangers to ourselves. If we knew our own minds, why should we need to guess what our preferences are from our behavior? If our minds were an open book, we would know exactly how much we care about the environment or like lattes. Actually, we often need to look to our behavior to figure out who we are. Moreover, we don’t just use our behavior to learn about our particular types of character --- we infer characters that weren’t there before. Our behavior is often shaped by little pressures around us, which we fail to recognize. Maybe we recycle because our wives and neighbors would disapprove if we didn’t. Maybe we buy lattes in order to impress the people around us. We should not mistakenly believe that we always behave as a result of some inner disposition. Whatever pressures there can be or inferences one can make, people become what they do, though it may not be in compliance(符合)with their true desires. Therefore, we should all bear in mind Kurt Vonnegut’s advice: “We are what we pretend to be, so we must be careful about what we pretend to be.” 32. According to the passage, personalities and attitudes are commonly believed to _________. A. determine one’s behavior B. reflect one’s taste C. influence one’s surroundings D. result from one’s habits 33. Which of the following would Daryl Bern most probably agree with? A. A kind person will offer his seat to the old B. One buys latte out of true love of coffee C. One recycles plastics to protect the environment D. The return of a wallet can indicate one’s honesty 34. What can be inferred from the underlined sentence in the passage? A. We fail to realize our inner dispositions B. We can be influenced by outside pressures C. Our behavior is the result of our true desires D. Our characters can shape our social relationships 35. What does the author mainly discuss in the passage? A. Personalities and attitudes B. Preferences and habits C. Behavior and personalities D.
