Examples include arching (弓起) their backs as a signal of fear or attack, and slowly blinking (眨) their eyes to signal relaxation. Mouth open and no teeth showed suggests a feeling of playfulness. A cat which chooses to lie on its back shows happiness, trust and comfort. Cats show dissatisfaction by moving their ears back, equal to a human frown. As is the case with dogs, a twitching (抽动) tail can mean a little anger while a tail held high suggests confidence. Cats will twitch their tails when hunting or angry, while larger twitching suggests displeasure. They may also twitch their tails when playing. A tail held high is a sign of happiness, or can be used as a greeting towards humans or other cats (usually close relatives) while half-raised shows less pleasure, and unhappiness is expressed with a tail held low. Some characteristic signals, however, are often misunderstood. It is important to keep in mind that each cat may show its feelings with different body language. For instance, a cat rubbing its body along an arm or leg of its owner is not only a way in which to attract attention and, perhaps, a way to ask for food; it is also a way of “marking” its owner as its own. Usually a cat with its tail held high and twitching shows excitement, but this is often mistaken for anger. Many people fail or are too slow to understand the silent body language of cats. And they may have the false impression that cats are cold-hearted, unfaithful or not clever. To understand cats, people must observe a cat closely and learn what its body signals tell them. 24. Which cat body language shows that a cat is relaxed? A. Lying on its stomach. B. Blinking its eyes slowly. C. Holding its tail high. D. Moving its ears back. 25. According to the passage, a cat will twitch its tail EXCEPT ____. A. when it feels sleepy B. when it is hunting C. when it feels angry D. when it is playing 26. How many meanings does a cat’s rubbing its body along its owner have? A. 2. B. 3. C. 4. D. 5. 27. The last paragraph intends to tell us ____. A. many people often have wrong opinions on cats B. it is not easy to understand cats’ body language C. every cat has its own special body language D. we should learn more about cats’ body language C The history of modern theme parks started with the pleasure gardens of Europe, which were built around important cities in the 1550s. The main attractions were flowers, fountains, dancing, fireworks, games, stage shows and some simple amusement rides. These pleasure gardens were early amusement parks, from which theme parks developed. In the late 1880s, with the decline(衰退) of pleasure gardens in Europe, amusement parks spread to North America, mostly to solve the money problem of railway companies. People used railway services a lot during the week to go to work, but much less on weekends and other holidays. Therefore, amusement parks were built at the end of railway lines so that people would use the railways every day. In 1894, Paul Boyton, an Irish American, built the world’s first modern amusement park called Paul Boyton’s Water Chutes in Chicago, USA. Since then, amusement parks have grown in number and size. Today, there are still many amusement parks around the world. For example, Bakken Amusement Park in Denmark, which was opened in the 1580s, is the oldest amusement park in the world. Modern theme parks grew out of amusement parks. Different from amusement parks, theme parks place more importance on showing themes or ideas in some related(相关的) areas. These theme areas recreated a special time and place for visitors to enjoy themselves. Common themes are culture, fantasy, history and religion. The most important theme park began with a mouse and a man, Walter Elias Disney, better known as Walt Disney. 28. This passage mainly tells us about ____________. Bakken Amusement Park D Jim Denevan is an amazing artist whose work is admired by all, but owned by none一that's because all of Jim's art is created on an unusual canvas (画布)一the soft sand. He sometimes spends days working on a piece, only to see it washed away by the sea or a storm and that is just the way he likes it. Denevan discovered his artistic talents about ten years ago, when he was wandering aimlessly on the beach with a stick. He ended up drawing a 12-foot-long fish. Since then, Jim has traveled over 1,800 miles while creating over 600 pieces of sand art. Over the years, his drawings have become bigger, but the tools he uses haven't changed—All he needs is a stick, a garden rake (耙) and most importantly, his lively imagination! Just like any good artist, Jim is quite particular about the “quality” of his canvas, sometimes walking for miles, in search of perfect sand. His latest piece of work, which is also the world's largest freelance drawing(自由绘画), was created in the desert sands of Nevada. It took Jim three trips, eight days and over 100 miles of walking to create this 3-mile work of art. It took the storm just one night to destroy it! However, Jim says he actually enjoys watching the waves or rain wash his paintings away. Jim's art has become very popular over the years and was even the topic of a documentary named “Sandman” in 2005. Jim Denevan is not just about art in the sand一he is also an excellent chef (厨师) and founder of an organization called “Outstanding in the Field", whose motto is to celebrate food at its source. Accordingly, group dining events are held outdoors on farms, with the diners being treated to a delicious meal. The events, which are held in different farms throughout America, are always sold out the minute the schedule is announced. 32. It can be learnt from the text that_________. A. Denevan walks a lot to complete his work B. it is not hard for Denevan to find suitable sand to draw on C. it usually takes long for the storm to destroy Denevan's work D.
