Unit 3 The world online 课时练1 2篇阅读+1篇完形 ‎[学生用书P383(单独成册)]‎ 阅读理解 A ‎(2020·安庆模拟)We’re often reminded of the importance of preserving the planet as we see it for future generations—and children at St Oswald’s CE Primary School Chester certainly agree.‎ Nineyearold Isobel Kelleher from the school’s Hummingbirds class thinks adults need to take note. “Sometimes they can be busy and I don’t think they think they can make a difference, but if everyone does a little bit it all adds up,” she tells HuffPost UK. “We started looking at plastic pollution in our oceans and the things like plastic bags that are polluting them,” she says. “Fish can eat the plastic and they can die, or we might even eat the fish ourselves.”‎ Mr. Timms, Isobel’s teacher, has been spearheading a new project at the school which lets children loose creatively to raise awareness of the need to be more environmentally friendly. The entire Hummingbirds class, which is made up of 9and 10yearold pupils, has been busy writing poems and creating online video adverts to warn adults about the serious situation of our oceans and wildlife.‎ Mr. Timms thinks children have an important role to play in teaching us how to take care of the things around us. “We sometimes overlook how much we can really learn from children,” he says. “It has been really hard to believe having parents come in saying that their children have been asking them to stop using plastic, and to recycle more, and even stopping them using plastic straws.”‎ Mr. Timms is proud of his Hummingbirds class. “The message that they would like to send to world is simple: stopping this isn’t someone else’s job, and it won’t be OK if we just leave it.”‎ ‎【解题导语】 本文是一篇说明文。 ‎ ‎1.What can we infer about adults according to Isobel Kelleher?‎ 14‎ A.They just pretend to be busy.‎ B.They haven’t done their part well.‎ C.They can do nothing to stop pollution.‎ D.They have started to care about the ocean.‎ B 根据第二段的内容,尤其是第一句“Nineyearold Isobel Kelleher from the school’s Hummingbirds class thinks adults need to take note.” ‎ ‎2.What is the purpose of the school project?‎ A.To help adults to learn more about their kids.‎ B.To remind adults to be friendly to the environment.‎ C.To persuade students to stop using plastic bags.‎ D.To teach students how to write poems creatively.‎ B 根据第三段尾句“The entire Hummingbirds class, which is made up of 9and 10yearold pupils, has been busy writing poems and creating online video adverts to warn adults about the serious situation of our oceans and wildlife.” ‎ ‎3.Why does Mr. Timms mention parents in Paragraph 4?‎ A.To prove kids are creative in teaching.‎ B.To attract people to support his work.‎ C.To have adults care about education.‎ D.To show the effects of the project.‎ D 根据第四段尾句“It has been really hard to believe having parents come in saying that their children have been asking them to stop using plastic, and to recycle more, and even stopping them using plastic straws.” ‎ ‎4.What is the text mainly about?‎ A.An inspiring school project.‎ B.An appeal to stop using plastic bags.‎ C.Serious situations of our planet.‎ D.Adults’ ignorance of the environment.‎ 14‎ A 解析:主旨大意题。 Timms, Isobel’s teacher, has been spearheading a new project at the school which lets children loose creatively to raise awareness of the need to be more environmentally friendly.” ‎ B ‎(2020·沈阳监测一)Language learning apps are very popular now and offer opportunities to learn vocabulary and practice grammar. But there has been a discussion about just how effective such apps can be.‎ Among the most popular apps are Duolingo and Busuu. Previous research found positive results on the use of them. But these apps mainly concentrated on study with learners who had signed up for language courses and they only worked as afterschool support, so the results were not always reliable. A recent study of 4,095 Busuu users has been carried out aimed to find out if users can actually learn a language with an app.‎ Busuu provides learning materials for 12 different languages. It offers a special model where some content is available for free while some content is not. We find that its users are an even mix of men and women. More than half consider themselves to be at the beginner level as there is a decrease in users as their language levels go up. Most people use the app because of personal interest, or because they want to study or live abroad. Female users tend to use it less often but for longer periods of time than male users.‎ Getting any feedback on Busuu depends on whether your answer is correct or not. While it is helpful, this is not the sort of feedback language teachers prefer, as it does not explain why the answer is right or wrong. In spite of this, feedback in the app is very highly rated.‎ More than 92% of respondents state that the app has met their expectations and 86% rate the app very highly. In fact, more than 80% of the users surveyed strongly agree that using the app has helped them improve their knowledge of the language they are learning.‎ Besides, language learning apps also create an environment where mistakes are only known to the users, and this can address the performance anxiety that many ‎ 14‎ learners suffer from when asked to speak a foreign language. So language teachers should encourage their students to use them to do the grammar work, leaving precious class time for more language communication.‎ ‎【解题导语】 本文是一篇说明文,主要介绍了语言学习应用程序的功能和作用。‎ ‎5.The results of the former research weren’t always dependable because ________.‎ A.it was only carried out before class B.it didn’t consider users in class C.it just focused on positive rusults D.it used outofdate methods B 根据第二段第三句“But these apps mainly concentrated on study with learners who had signed up for language courses and they only worked as afterschool support, so the results were not always reliable.”,并结合该段其他内容可知,这些应用程序主要关注已报名参加语言课程的学习者的学习,并且它们仅作为课后学习的补充。 ‎ ‎6.What can we learn about the app Busuu from the text?‎ A.All the content is free to use.‎ B.Most users consider it satisfying.‎ C.It’s used by more advanced learners.‎ D.It’s more popular with female learners.‎ B ‎ ‎7.What does the underlined word “address” probably mean in the last paragraph?‎ A.Deal with. B.Write down.‎ C.Turn to. D.Speak of.‎ A 解析:词义猜测题。根据尾段第一句“Besides, language learning apps also create an environment where mistakes are only known to the users, and this can address the performance anxiety that many learners suffer from when asked to speak a foreign language.” 由该句中的“the performance anxiety that many learners suffer from”,并结合语境可推知,画线词意为“解决”,‎ 14‎ 故A项正确。‎ ‎8.What is the main idea of the text?‎ A.Students won’t suffer anxiety in learning languages by using Busuu.‎ B.Language learning apps are effective and satisfactory to language learners.‎ C.Language learning apps are very popular with most language teachers.‎ D.Students should be required to use apps for homework after class.‎ B ‎ 完形填空 ‎(2020·石家庄重点高中摸底)On my way back home I was stopped at traffic lights by some people who asked for help. His chemistry experiments have attracted over 2 million followers in just a few months. Evans is a chemistry professor at Beijing University of Chemical Technology. The 60yearold always wears a white lab coat, a pair of safety goggles(护目镜), and smiles often. Some web users say he looks just like “the Grandpa of KFC”.‎ Evans has posted videos of various experiments. His most popular experiments have attracted millions of hits on videosharing apps. Excited children’s cheers and shouts can be heard in his videos.“I hope my experiments can arouse people’s interest in science,” he says.‎ Evans has been interested in China since childhood. In the early 1970s, before the reform and openingup, he viewed China as “a country full of mysteries”. He first visited the Chinese mainland in 1987 to attend a chemistry conference in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province. He quit his job in the United Kingdom and moved to Beijing in 1996. Many of his friends thought he was crazy. But Evans said they just saw China’s challenges but not its potential.‎ Since 2011, Evans has turned to the Internet to popularize science. He learned shortvideo apps are also popular in small cities and rural areas. And he realized this enables him to reach more students, who lack opportunities to perform fun experiments. But even a oneminute video requires a considerable amount of work. Still, he thinks it’s worth it to fulfill his responsibility to popularize science.‎ His experiments always fill schools’ lecture halls with laughter. Some viewers 14‎ ‎ call him “a Harry Potterlike magician”, but he disagrees.“A magician never tells the secrets behind his tricks, but a scientist always gives an explanation.” He sees himself as a teacher. He performs experiments to spread knowledge, inspire thinking, remove misunderstandings and show that science can create change. Evans says he looks forward to more “chemical reactions” with China.‎ ‎【解题导语】 文章介绍了一位移居中国的英国化学家戴维·埃文斯在中国通过短视频普及科学知识的事迹。‎ ‎1.Who is David Evans according to the passage?‎ A.A manager of KFC. A new study suggests that how we deal with these incoming messages could be affecting our stress levels and overall health.‎ A team from the Future Work Centre in the UK surveyed 2,000 people across various industries, sectors, and job roles, asking participants how they managed their email and how much associated stress they felt as a result. Overall, those who spent the most time organising and staying on top of messages felt the most emailrelated pressure too.‎ ‎“While email can be a valuable communication tool, it’s clear that it’s a source of stress and frustration for many of us. The people who reported it being most useful to them also reported the highest levels of email pressure.” said one of the team, Richard MacKinnon.‎ Two of the habits linked to more emailrelated stress were checking for messages first thing in the morning and last thing at night. Half of those surveyed had push notifications(消息推送) set up for new email, while 62 percent of respondents left their email app open all day and all night. Both were linked to higher levels of email pressure. The survey also found that managers suffered more than nonmanagers.‎ Stress is not just a problem when it comes to our mood—it’s been linked to a lot of disorders such as heart disease, weight gain, memory impairment(减弱), digestive problems, and depression.‎ The researchers suggest that the relationship between emailrelated stress and the negative impact on home life is not the same for everyone.‎ ‎【解题导语】 大部分人会接触到电子邮件,对电子邮件的处理方式会影响我们的压力层级和整体健康。‎ ‎5.What’s the purpose of the study?‎ A.To find out how many people have an email account.‎ B.To know what sort of people use email most.‎ 14‎ C.To find out how email management is related to stress.‎ D.To show what changes email has brought about to people.‎ C 根据第一段第二句“A new study suggests that how we deal with these incoming messages could be affecting our stress levels and overall health.” ‎ ‎6.What does Richard MacKinnon think of email?‎ A.It brings more strengths.‎ B.It is not an essential tool.‎ C.It is a doubleedged sword.‎ D.It makes people puzzled.‎ C 根据第三段Richard MacKinnon所说的话“While email can be a valuable communication tool, it’s clear that it’s a source of stress and frustration for many of us.
