My every waking hour was consumed by the project and although I imagined that I would feel happy after completing parts of the project, I was confused to find that instead, I was feeling rather depressed. I tried a range of methods to help cheer myself up. I had a relaxing bath, cooked a delicious meal to enjoy with my family and even watched a light-hearted movie, but to no avail. It was only when I turned to deep thinking for a solution that the answer came to me: turn to nature!‎ The very next day, I grabbed my camera and a bottle of water and set off to spend a few hours walking in a nature reserve, even though it was pouring with rain. Within a couple of minutes, I felt alive again. To be honest. I felt like a young school girl again and had to stop myself from hopping along the path singing I'm Singing in the Rain, a song I used to sing when I was a child. I think as ‎ adults we often try too hard to control our inner children and as a result, we restrain our own spirits, which only leads to depression and stress.‎ Interestingly, it has been shown that people who spend 40 minutes walking in a nature reserve have a drop in their blood pressure levels, but this does not happen when they spend a similar amount of time walking in a busy city centre.‎ If you feel a little low in spirit and know that you have spent too much time indoors, relax completely, remove your shoes and let your inner child come out and play.‎ ‎24.Why did the author feel depressed according to the passage?‎ A.She couldn't consume her waking hour.‎ B.She had not seen a film for a long time.‎ C.She had not finished her work on time.‎ D.She had worked on a hard job for too long ‎25.The author walked in a nature reserve in the rain in order to .‎ A.take photos ‎ B.find a solution to the project C.hop along the path ‎ D.cheer herself up ‎26.Which of the following can be equal to the underlined part "to no avail" in Paragraph 1?‎ A.unsuccessful. D.unexpected.‎ ‎27.In the author's opinion, .‎ A.playing with a child can make people relaxed B.depression is usually caused by hard work C.walking in a busy city centre harms people's health D.adults should express their inner feelings occasionally ‎ C As your teacher passes out the math test, your palms(手掌) turn sweaty. You notice that your heart has begun to race. Glancing down at the page, you suddenly forget those operations on which you had drilled only a few days earlier. Do you perform all additions first in a complex calculation? Oh, you know it—well you're pretty sure, right? Suddenly, you start to doubt a lot of things that you ‎ know.‎ ‎ If that sounds familiar, you might suffer from math anxiety. Or maybe not. Even researchers who study this condition note that it can be surprisingly hard to define math anxiety. It's also hard to identify precisely how many people suffer from it. After all, it's I not an officially recognized mental disorder in the way that depression is.‎ To diagnose math anxiety, researchers conduct a questionnaire. It asks things like "how anxious would you feel about being given a set of division problems to solve on paper". Those who score high on these surveys about stress over making numerical calculations will be labeled math anxious In general, people who panic over their math skills tend to do worse in math classes than people who don't mind numbers. But that's not always true. "Just because you're math anxious, that doesn't always mean you're bad at math," notes Rose Vukovic She's an educational psychologist at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis.‎ Math anxiety affects people of all ages. It can lead to poor performance in math classes. And its impacts don't end at graduation. Throughout life, this type of stress can stand in the way of mastering skills or projects in a host of areas that rely on calculations. ‎ But the good news is that the problem is manageable. Researchers are finding ways people can cope with this stress.‎ ‎28.What's the symptom of math anxiety?‎ A.You sweat all over. B.Your heart beats wildly.‎ C.You are thrown into mental disorder. D.You don't mind numbers at all.‎ ‎29.How do researchers diagnose math anxiety?‎ A.By carrying out a questionnaire. B.By being tested by psychologists.‎ ‎ C.By seeing the performances in class D.By checking the students' math scores.‎ ‎30.What can we learn from Rose Vukovic's words?‎ A.Math anxiety influences math results. B.Math anxiety is hard to be overcome.‎ C.Math anxiety needn't be worried about. D.Math anxiety is a kind of mental illness.‎ ‎31.What does the author think of math anxiety?‎ A.It's hard to solve n completely. B.It's has an unimaginable impact C.It's best to ignore it. D.It can be managed.‎ D Have you ever thought why there are very few great people? I think there is probably only one great person out of 10,000 at most, and most probably much less than that. But why? Most people want to be great, right? Why are there only very few of them? Here is the reason: most people do not pay the price of greatness. I think this one is quite obvious. ‎ Now, the next question is: why not? If there are so many people who want to be great, why only very few of them actually pay the price? The answer to this question explains the difference between the almost 100% people who want to be great and the much less than 0.01% who actually become great. ‎ ‎ The reason why very few people actually pay the price is this: the road to greatness is continuously painful for a long time.‎ ‎ Greatness requires sacrifices and there is no sacrifice without pain. The kind of sacrifices required for greatness is the ones with a long painful process. If you just want to be better than average, it will be painful only every now and then, and many people can still handle it. But being great is a totally different level. The pain is much deeper and it is continuous. Very few people can have tolerance to this kind of pain and that's why there are very few great people. Most people naturally choose things that bring pleasure to them. It's difficult to choose pain over pleasure, let alone doing it continuously for a long time.‎ But that's what I believe is the secret to greatness: choosing pain over pleasure continuously for a long time.‎ ‎32.Why are there very few great people?‎ A.Only less than 0.01% actually want to be great.‎ B.Most people don't have the potential to be great C.Most people can't bear the hardship to be great.‎ D.Only less than 0.01% have the potential to be great.‎ ‎33.Which of the following sayings would the author agree to according to the passage?‎ A.No pain, no gain B.Do one thing at a time, and do well.‎ C.Whatever is worth doing is worth doing well D.Never put off what you can do today until tomorrow.‎ ‎34.According to the writer, to be great, what do you need to do?‎ A.To suffer only every now and then B.To be very clever, rich and beautiful.‎ C.To get along well with others D.To choose pain instead of pleasure for long.‎ ‎35.The underlined phrase "have tolerance to" in Paragraph 4 is closest in meaning to " ".‎ A.remain alive or continue to exist for a long time B.be in a difficult or painful situation for a long time without complaints C.get over something unpleasant quickly and become happy again D.deal with something pleasant and share it with others 第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分1 0分)‎ ‎ 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。‎ Buying a new home is a life-changing experience. A pre-approval allows you to know in advance how much you have to spend on a house. It also gives you a buyer's advantage over other buyers, who haven't been approved for a loan yet, when you make an offer on a house.‎ As part of the application process, you may be required to provide documentation to show proof of income, employment, rental history, and other important factors. 40 .‎ A.If you're interested in attending a home buyer course, you should check with real estate companies in your community.‎ B.The length of the course varies.‎ C.Get Pre-approved for Your Mortgage Loan.‎ D.Save More Money.‎ E.So you should start gathering these documents as soon as possible.‎ F.Pay attention to the seller, and they are likely not to finish the building you will buy G.However, it can also be a pleasant experience if you do some hard work in advance.‎ 第三部分 英语知识运用(共两节,满分45分)‎ 第一节 完形填空(共20小题;每小题1.5分,满分30分)‎ ‎ 阅读下面短文,从短文后各题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。‎ Why are there so many overweight people in the United States and abroad? Could there be a ‎ 41 between obesity in America and the fact that we, as a nation, have gone through some ‎ 42 changes in the past couple of decades? For instance. if you look around, 43 Americans are out actually doing "hard labour". 44 , there are more people nowadays who are doing desk jobs behind computers. Even children aren't nearly as 45 as they used to be.‎ When I was younger, I stuck to the strict 46 of getting my homework done at first. They're now 55 with both parents working full-time jobs, which 56 less interaction, which turns into more time 57 doing sedentary (久坐的) activities, and less time getting outdoor playing. So a number of children get overweight.‎ Our parents are no longer the greatest role models for 58 because they work long hours and come home too 59 to cook or exercise, etc. So, what to do? Confucius, whose ideas have a great impact on Chinese culture, is considered the greatest ancient educator. As an increasing number of foreigners want to learn hinese culture, the Confucius Institutes are set up in many foreign countries. ‎ Since I am a volunteer working in the Confucius Institute in London, I’d like to invite you to visit it at 8:00 am on Saturday, November 6.‎ During our visit, we can attend some Chinese classes, which will be followed by some activities such as paper-cutting and Chinese calligraphy.‎ I sincerely hope that you will accept this invitation. Looking forward to your reply. ‎ ‎ Yours truly,‎ ‎ Li Hua ‎ Text 1 ‎ W: Hey, how did you do on the exam?‎ M: Ah, I got an 82. It’s OK, I guess. But I thought I’d get at least an 85. ‎ Text 2 ‎ W: If you scare me like that again, I’ll yell and the neighbors will hear. ‎ M: I’m sorry. It was too good to pass up. You were just sitting there, and I thought it would be funny to throw the cat on you.‎ Text 3 ‎ W: When will you be home? ‎ M: Around three.‎ W: OK. I’ll need the car after that. I’m going to the movies with Sharon. ‎ M: Oh. I was hoping to take you out to dinner. ‎ Text 4‎ W: Airport, please. I’m running a little late. So just take the fastest way, even if it’s not the most direct. ‎ M: Sure, but there is a lot of traffic everywhere today because of the football game.‎ Text 5‎ M: I’m still wondering whether we should get another credit card. ‎ W: Isn’t that just another bill to pay?‎ M: It could be. But we don’t have to use it a lot. I just want to build up our credit scores. They’re not as high as they should be, and the only way to get a home loan is to have really good credit.‎ Text 6‎ W: We’re nearly there. Will we be allowed to visit all the ships, Peter? The space station and aircraft equipment, as well as the others?‎ M: Yes, I expect so. We shall see most of them.‎ W: Good! Visiting spaceships is always exciting. But remember, we’ve got work to do. We’ve got a story to write and photographs to take.‎ M: Will we be allowed to take photographs?‎ W: Yes. I think so. And there’ll be a chance to ask questions.‎ Text 7‎ W: May I help you?‎ M: Yes. I’d like to book three seats to Calgary Canada on a flight leaving sometime before next Sunday.‎ W: Economy class?‎ M: Yes.‎ W: One-way or round trip?‎ M: One-way.‎ W: There aren’t any direct flights, sir. You will have to change in Vancouver.‎ M: That’s all right.‎ W: There is a Canadian Airlines Flight 30 leaving Beijing next Friday at 10:00 am. It has three seats available. Will that be all right?‎ M: That’s fine.‎ W: Your name, please?‎ M: B-a-s-i-l, Basil. How much is the ticket?‎ W: $580 for one.‎ Text 8‎ M: Oh, no. Is it almost 7:00 am? Why didn’t my alarm work?‎ W: What’s wrong? Your class starts at 8:00 am. You have plenty of time, don’t you?‎ M: No, today is my school field trip. I need to be at school by 7:15 am. ‎ W: Oh, yeah, that’s right. You asked me to pack your lunch box last night. ‎ M: Can you drive me there right now, Mom? I would be late if I took the bus. ‎ W: Sorry, sweetie. I haven’t taken a shower or gotten dressed. I need at least 20 minutes. ‎ M: No way. I will be in big trouble. ‎ W: Oh. Look out the window! Seems like Mrs. Anderson will drive her son, Billy, to school right now. How about you go with them? Billy is your best friend. I’m sure Mrs. Anderson wouldn’t mind taking you with them, right?‎ M: You’re brilliant, Mom. ‎ Text 9‎ M: How do you usually get to work in the morning? ‎ W: I try to ride my bike most of the time. Of course, when I’m running late, I take the subway. ‎ M: I always seem to be five or ten minutes late for everything. I drive to work every day, so if the traffic is bad, I have to think of a new way to apologize to my boss for being late.‎ W: Does your boss yell at you if you’re late? ‎ M: No, not really. He knows that I live far away. I stay late whenever I don’t make it on time in the morning, and it probably helps that I earn a fair amount of money for the company year after year.‎ W: Have you ever considered moving into the city to be closer to your job? ‎ M: To be honest, I would rather change jobs than houses! My wife loves our house, especially since she works from home. Our kids are in great schools. And on the weekends, there are a million things for us to do as a family.‎ W: It does sound nice. For me, though, I love living in the city. There are so many cultural activities, and I love not having to drive.‎ M: Yeah, driving is pretty stressful sometimes. ‎ W: I think it’s also easier to live in the city when you don’t have kids. If I were a mom, I’d probably live closer to you.‎ M: Well, you and Timothy might want to think about getting started with that…‎ W: You sound just like my mother-in-law!‎ Text 10‎ Hello, I’m Rachel Joyce. I’m so happy to be here today at the Claremont Library. I’ve traveled all the way from England, and it’s truly wonderful to visit the United States! This is the first stop on my book tour. I’m off to Australia next! Before I take any questions, let me tell you a bit about myself. My new novel, The Love Song of Miss Queenie Hennessy, was recently published in 2014. The book is a companion to my first novel, The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry, which follows a man named Harold Fry as he goes in search of his old friend, Queenie Hennessy, in hopes of saying goodbye before she dies. The novel was published in 2012. It was almost chosen for the Commonwealth Book Prize and the Man Booker Prize. The Love Song of Miss Queenie Hennessy is Queenie’s side of the story as she waits for Harold. I’ve also written many radio plays for BBC Radio Four, and in 2007, I won the Tinniswood Award for my radio play To Be a Pilgrim. I have also won the UK National Book Award for New Writer of the Year. Before I was a writer, I was an actress in theatre and on TV. I’ll take questions from the audience now.‎
