B Two of the saddest words in the English language are “ if only”. I live my life with the goal of never having to say those words, because they convey regret, lost opportunities, mistakes, and disappointment. My father is famous in our family for saying, “Take the extra minute to do it right.” I always try to live by the “extra minute” rule. When my children were young and likely to cause accidents, I always thought about what I could do to avoid an “if only” moment, whether it was something minor like moving a cup full of hot coffee away from the edge of a counter, or something that required a little more work such as taping padding(衬垫) onto the sharp comers of a glass coffee table. I don’t only avoid those “if only” moments when it comes to safety. It’s equally important to avoid “if only” in our personal relationships. We all know people who lost a loved one and regretted that they had foregone an opportunity to say “I love you” or “I forgive you”. When my father announced he was going to the eye doctor across from my office on Good Friday, I told him that it was a holiday for my company and I wouldn’t be there. But then I thought about the fact that he’s 84 years old and I realized that I shouldn’t give up an opportunity to see him.I called him and told him I had decided to go to work on my day off after all. I know there will still be occasions when I have to say “if only” about something, but my life is definitely better because of my policy of doing everything possible to avoid that eventuality. And even though it takes an extra minute to do something right, or it occasionally takes an hour or two in my busy schedule to make a personal connection, I know that I'm doing the right thing. I’m buying myself peace of mind and that’s the best kind of insurance for my emotional well-being. 25.Which of the following is an example of the "extra minute" rule? A.Start the car the moment everyone is seated. B.Leave the room for a minute with the iron working. C.Wait for an extra minute so that the steak tastes better. D.Move an object out of the way before it trips(绊倒) someone. 26.The author decided to go to her office on Good Friday to . A.keep her appointment with the eye doctor B.meet her father who was already an old man C.join in the holiday celebration of the company D.finish her work before the deadline approached 27.The underlined word "foregone" in Paragraph 3 is closest in meaning to" " . A.abandoned B.lacked C.avoided D.cherished 28.What is the best title for the passage? A.The Emotional Well-being B.The Two Saddest Words C.The Most Useful Rule D.The Peace of Mind C Many people are not aware the most healing herbs(草药) make up today’s modern medicine. The healing herbs from ancient days are still the healing herbs of modern times. Throughout all of these years herbs have remained unchanged; their quality remain as strong as ancient man and animals found it to be thousands of years ago. What has changed is the way man uses these healing herbs together with modern medicine of today. Ancient man knew about the many benefits of healing herbs and passed on their knowledge form generation to generation. Today modern man continues to benefit from the wisdom ages ago. Actually, herbs can be any plant, flower, tree or shrub(灌木) that heals the body. According to early writings, man first noticed that when an animal was ill it would bite into specific plants, otherwise the animal will leave them alone. Observing animal behaviors is still done today. Ten years ago, researchers at the Gombe Stream National Park in Tanzania, noticed chimpanzees(黑猩猩) that were ill were eating Aspirin leaves. Researchers found that Aspirin(阿司匹林) leaves contained a kind of antibiotic(抗生素). These chimpanzees no doubt knew this plant would help heal their disease. Most plant life has a pleasant smell. The writings of ancient man note that people rubbed these sweet plants on their bodies to keep insects away. Some herbs mask the smell of smelly meat. The Egyptians used a variety of herbs to preserve their dead. In conclusion, ancient herbs had a variety of purposes, and for thousands of years were used for the preservation of our foods, and to heal our bodies. Herbs can continue to play an important part in our lives if we open our minds to their importance and usefulness. In my opinion, it is always better to treat naturally with herbs, than to treat illnesses with man-made medicines. There are few if any side effects to taking herbs. 29.The example of chimpanzees is used to suggest ___. A.chimpanzees are clever animals B.man began studying herbs long ago. C.Aspirin leave can cure many diseases D.animals helped man discover healing herbs 30.According to the text, the Egyptians used herbs ____ A.to keep off insects B.at the burial service C.to feed their animals D.for the preservation of foods. 31.Which of the following about healing herbs isn’t introduced in the text? A.How people knew about healing herbs. B.The benefits of healing herbs. C.Side effect of healing herbs D.How ancient people use healing herbs in life. 32.What is the author’s attitude towards healing herbs? A.He thinks highly of them. B.He refuses to accept them. C.He thinks they’re ineffective. D.He thinks they have side effects. D Social networks are a big part of nearly every teenager’s life in this day and age. Many teens have QQ, We Chat, or Weibo but little do a lot of teens know that they can be held responsible for everything they post for the rest of their lives. Everything you post online is part of a digital footprint that can always be traced(追踪)back to you. That includes every post, even like, comment, favorite and forward that you have ever committed (做出). All pictures you’ve posted or will post have been stored in a digital database, and it is the companies’ rights to keep all of these documents that you believe to have been deleted or hidden. With every post comes a consequence; whether it is good or bad, what you post could be seen by anyone. That is why you have to be very careful of what you decide to post or comment. If you think you are safe from Servite finding out about one funny comment you made six months ago on a meaningless picture, you are probably wrong. Recently, a senior, Aaron, at Servite learned this lesson the hard way this year. He wrote a series of ugly comments towards Connelly girls on a web page, ignoring potential consequences. This student, however, did have to face consequences from Servite as he was removed from all of his leadership roles in the school. Surprisingly enough, he fully agreed with his punishment handed down by the administration and fully understood why he was given such severe discipline(惩处). “When you agree to come to Servite, you are agreeing to defend what Servite stands for,” the young man said. “That continues past the hours of 8 am and 2 pm. It's at all times.” So, next time you’re about to post something you think could be received as offensive or inappropriate, think twice, think again, and don’t press send. 33.What does the author think the teens should do in the first paragraph? A.Avoid using social media. B.Remove their own digital documents. C.Be responsible for what they put online. D.Learn to balance their online and offline time. 34.What mistake did Aaron make online? A.Drawing some meaningless pictures. B.Making some bad comments. C.Failing to take his lesson. D.Breaking down a special web page. 35.What did Servite do with Aaron’s case? A.It reached an agreement with Connelly girls. B.It helped Aaron get rid of ill effects. C.It gave Aaron a severe punishment. D.It stood on Aaron’s side. 第二节 七选五 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项.选项中有两项为多余 You wouldn’t want that job! But robots are doing such jobs right now and have been for the last 20 years. As is often the case, when people are at home, having meals or waiting for buses, you can always find them addicted to their phones, completely ignoring others. This is really a common phenomenon in our life. The reason is that smart phones nowadays can be used for people to play mobile games and keep in touch with friends through QQ and WeChat. However, too much being exposed to phones is bad for people in terms of health. Moreover, people engaged in phones fail to communicate well with those around them. As far as I am aware, people should wisely make use of their phones to help with their work and study. And meanwhile care more about their family and friends rather than mobile phones.查看更多
