One way is to finish a medical residency in the United States. A residency is a period of hospital training for medical school students.‎ Foreign-trained doctors need to be accepted by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates. This needs passing several tests. After that, foreign doctors can receive a visa to stay in the United States, at least for the training period. Practicing medicine in the United States also needs other steps.‎ But the first thing that foreign-trained doctors have to do is making sure they went to a recognized medical school. It has to be listed in the FAIMER International Medical Education Directory. FAIMER is the Foundation for Advancement of International Medical Education and Research.‎ If their school is not listed, then foreign-trained doctors can’t be accepted for a residency. One way is to go back to medical school — an American medical school.‎ ‎125 schools in the United States are led by the Association of American Medical Colleges. The group says last year more than 1,100 foreigners applied for the school year and one-fourth of them were accepted at last.‎ Almost all medical schools in the United States need the persons who apply for the school year to report marks from the Medical College Admission Test(MCAT).‎ Future doctors in the United States need to finish four years of medical school after college. Then, they treat patients under the lead of experienced doctors. A residency is often between three and seven years. The first year is called an internship(实习期).‎ The Association of American Medical Colleges published a book called Medical School Admissions Requirements. The newest one is for 2008-2009, which has information about every school and information for foreign students. The book costs twenty-five dollars and can be ordered through its website.‎ 1. His grandmother took care of the family and his mom worked 12-hour shifts at a car lot, doing everything she could to provide for the family.‎ Dr. Decmona Warren, a teacher of Communities In Schools(CIS), saw the signs but when she tried to help, Brandon wouldn't take it. "When I heard her call my name, I would nearly run away. "Brandon said later.‎ His GPA( 平均成绩) fell to a 1.4 and Brandon was kicked out of the baseball team. He turned to Dr.Warren, who welcomed him as a CIS student with open arms. From tutoring to parent-teacher conferences, he allowed Dr. Warren to become his "school mom", and slowly, things started to turn around.‎ ‎"CIS of Atlanta has made a big difference in my life. This program has taught me to think before I act and make better choices in choosing friends. Before CIS it seemed like every week I was either out of school or in school suspension. But with the help of CIS I am now back on track, more focused and determined to do better in my academics and behavior. "‎ He's back on the team now playing in the Catcher position, with a 2.8 GPA. Netflix, the TV-streaming company behind hit shows such as The Crown and House Of Cards, is working on ways to give viewers control of key plot decisions.‎ Some of the storylines will be simple and linear, like the Choose Your Own Adventure books that many grew up with. For example, viewers might decide whether a prisoner in the drama Orange Is The New Black joins a gang (黑帮) or not.‎ The technology could also potentially be used to allow Princess Margaret to marry Peter Townsend in The Crown, instead of having her relationship with the divorcee blocked by the Establishment. Other storylines will be much more complex, allowing viewers to connect plot points in a variety of ways using their TV remotes.‎ A source said, "We're doing work on branch narratives (叙事) so you are actually making choices as you watch. All the content will be there, and then people will have to get through it in different ways. We'll see how it plays out. It's an experiment. We'll ‎ see if it gets much success. For creators, it's a new field."‎ Actors would film numerous alternative plot segments( 片段) in advance, letting viewers choose which route to take through the story. Netflix will run a trial with choose-your-own-adventure shows for children later this year, based on an established character. If they are successful, it will use the format for TV programmes aimed at adults. Netflix president Reed Hastings confirmed that the company is working on interactive shows, saying," Once you have got interactivity, you can try anything."‎ At least five million UK households are thought to be signed up to Netflix, and it is challenging traditional broadcasters. Earlier this year, BBC boss Lord Hall promised to reinvent the iPlayer so that it overtakes Netflix as a destination in its own right, rather than a catch-up service.‎ 1. How will viewers connect plot points?‎ A. By using their TV remotes. B. By taking part in TV programs.‎ C. By interacting with actors or actresses. D. By filming plot segments.‎ 2. Why will Netflix run choose-your-own-adventure shows for children?‎ A. To attempt to create another hit show.‎ B. To compete with traditional broadcasters.‎ C. To attract as many children viewers as possible.‎ D. To test whether their creative ideas are successful.‎ 3. What's Reed Hastings' attitude to interactive shows?‎ A. Confident. B. Doubtful. C. Negative. D. Worried.‎ 4. What's the author's purpose of writing this text?‎ A. To advertise for Netflix company.‎ B. To recommend some English hit shows.‎ C. To predict future development in filming.‎ D. To introduce the latest technology in TV dramas.‎ D Our brains work in complex and strange ways. There are some people who can calculate the day of the week for any given date in 40,000 years, but who cannot add two plus two. Others can perform complex classical piano pieces after hearing them ‎ once, but they can't read or write.‎ Dr. J. Langdon Down first described this condition in 1887. He called these people idiot savants. An idiot savant is a person who has significant mental injury, such as in autism ( 自闭症) or retardation( 迟缓). At the same time, the person also exhibits some extraordinary skills, which are unusual for most people. The skills of the savant may vary from being exceptionally gifted in music or in mathematics, or having a photographic memory. One of the first descriptions of a human who could calculate quickly was written in 1789 by Dr. Benjamin Rush, an American doctor. His patient, Thomas Fuller, was brought to Virginia as a slave in 1724. It took Thomas only 90 seconds to work out that a man who has lived 70 years, 17 days, and 12 hours has lived 2,210,500,800 seconds. Despite this ability, he died in 1790 without ever learning to read or write.‎ Another idiot savant slave became famous as a pianist in the 1860s. Blind Tom had a vocabulary of only 100 words, but he played 5,000 musical pieces beautifully.‎ In the excellent movie Rain Man, made in 1988 and available on video cassette, Dustin Hoffman plays an idiot savant who amazes his brother played by Tom Cruise, with his ability to perform complex calculations very rapidly.‎ Today we more clearly recognize that the idiot savant is special because of brain impairment. Yet not all brain injury leads to savant skills. Some studies have shown that people who have purposeful interruption of the left side of the brain can develop idiot savant skills. However few people wish to participate in such experiments. There are many excellent reasons for not undergoing unnecessary experimentation on one's brain. The term idiot savant is outdated and inappropriate. Virtually all savants have a high degree of intelligence and are thus not idiots.‎ 1. How is the first paragraph presented ?‎ A. By stating the background of the text.‎ B. By giving examples to lead in the topic.‎ C. By making a definition of "idiot savant".‎ D. By making comparison to show our brains work.‎ 2. According to the text, which of the following statements is true?‎ A. Thomas Fuller who could calculate quickly is poor in art.‎ B. The concept "idiot savant" was first out forward by Dr. Rush.‎ C. The idiot savant played by Dustin Hoffman is good at calculation.‎ D. Tom Cruise has the ability to perform rapid complex calculations.‎ 2. Which of the following can we know from the last paragraph?‎ A. Experiments on one's brain are harmful.‎ B. Brain impairment is a kind of incurable disease.‎ C. Idiot savants are actually very clever in certain fields.‎ D. The idiot savant may result from the purposeful interruption of the brain.‎ 3. What does the text mainly talk about?‎ A.
