The study is known as the Abecedarian Project. It involved more than one-hundred young children from poor families in North Carolina.‎ Half of the children attended an all-day program at a high-quality child-care center. The center offered educational, health and social programs. Children took part in games and activities to increase their thinking and language skills and social and emotional development. The program also included health foods for the children.‎ The children attended the program from when they were a few weeks old until the age of five years. The other group of children did not attend the child-care center. After the age of five, both groups attended public school.‎ Researchers compared the two groups of children. When they were babies, both groups had similar results in tests for mental and physical skills. However, from the age of eighteen months, the children in the educational child-care program did much better in tests.‎ The researchers tested the children again when they were twelve and fifteen years old. The tests found that the children who had been in the child-care center continued to have higher average test results. These children did much better on tests of reading and mathematics.‎ A few years ago, organizers of the Abecedarian Project tested the students again. At the time, each student was twenty-one years old. They were tested for thinking and educational ability, employment, parenting and social skills. The researchers found that the young adults who had the early education still did better in reading and mathematics tests. They were more than two times as likely to be attending college or to have completed college. In addition, the children who received early education were older on average, when their first child was born.‎ The study offers more evidence that learning during the first months and years of life is important for all later development.‎ The researchers of the Abecedarian Project believe their study shows a need for lawmakers to spend money on public early education. They believe these kinds of programs could reduce the number of children who do not complete school and are unemployed.‎ ‎21.The Abecedarian Project has lasted _______.‎ A. almost one year B. about five years C. more than 20 years D. no more than 15 years ‎22.Those who had been in the child-care center _______ compared with those who hadn't.‎ A. have their children at later ages B. get more help from other people C. have no parenting or social skills D. are poorer at reading and mathematics ‎23.What don't we know about the Abecedarian Project after reading the text?[]‎ A. What the children learned at the child-care center.‎ B. How important early education is for poor children.‎ C. How many children are involved in the Abecedarian Project.‎ D. Whether lawmakers will spend money on public early education.‎ ‎24.The study of the Abecedarian Project shows that early education _______.‎ A. costs a lot of money B. leads to a lower birthrate C. can improve the life of poor children D. is not important for later development B If you don’t think technology can improve your trip better, meet Judy. When she recently checked into the Biu Hotel in Zurich, a clerk asked her to pay hundreds of dollars higher than the online offer. It was not a cheap stay, but it became more of one after she fired up the Booking. Com app she’d used to purchase her room on her smartphone. “As soon as I showed him the rate, he honored it,” Judy says.‎ Technology may create challenges for travelers-indeed, it may have led to Judy’s rate confusion in the first place-but it can also solve them. The solutions go beyond making sure of a hotel rate. The latest version of Booking.com is among the most feature-rich booking programs. Users can select hotels by location, make a secure booking and view the confirmed rate.‎ Another pain point for travelers is traffic that eats away precious vacation time. There’s a new app for that, called Commute. As the name implies, it’s aimed at users who have to make the same trip every day. Just input basic information about your destination and expected leaving ‎ time, and the app will start sending you traffic data 15 minutes before you leave.‎ Another source of travel-related conflict and confusion is money. That’s particularly true when you’re dealing with a foreign currency. The latest version of Travel Money Tracker helps travelers prevent currency mix-ups. It instantly converts(兑换) a country’s native currency to yours, so you know exactly how much that Espresso(浓咖啡) in Milan costs in dollars. One extra feature is the ability to set up an alert that tells you when you’re overspending, which can sometimes be a problem when you’re on vacation. The only catch, of course, is that you have to remember to record all your purchases.‎ ‎25.What does the example of Judy want to show?‎ A. The rate of Biu Hotel was higher than that of others B. Technology can make our trips better C. The clerk was very friendly and patient D. The smart phones have many functions ‎26.What is the main function of Travel Money Tracker?‎ A. It tells people how much Espresso costs B. It warns when people are overspending C. It records all people’s purchases D. It changes the native currency to yours ‎27.What’s the purpose of the passage?‎ A. To encourage people to travel B. To help people with technology problems C. To introduce some new apps D. To provide people with traveling information C[]‎ The kids in this village wear dirty, ragged clothes. They sleep beside cows and sheep in huts made of sticks and mud. They have no school. Yet they all can chant the English alphabet, and some can make words.‎ The key to their success: 20 tablet computers(平板电脑) dropped off in their Ethiopian village in February by a U.S. group called One Laptop Per Child.‎ The goal is to find out whether kids using today’s new technology can teach themselves to read in places where no schools or teachers exist. The Massachusetts Institute of Technology researchers analyzing the project data say they’re already amazed. “What I think has already happened is that the kids have already learned more than they would have in one year of ‎ kindergarten,” said Matt Keller, who runs the Ethiopia program.‎ The fastest learner—and the first to turn on one of the tablets—is 8-year-old Kelbesa Negusse. The device’s camera was disabled to save memory, yet within weeks Kelbesa had figured out its workings and made the camera work. He called himself a lion, a marker of accomplishment in Ethiopia.‎ With his tablet, Kelbasa rearranged the letters HSROE into one of the many English animal names he knows. Then he spelled words on his own. “Seven months ago he didn’t know any English. That’s unbelievable,” said Keller.‎ The project aims to get kids to a stage called “deep reading,” where they can read to learn. It won’t be in Amharic‎, ‎Ethiopia’s first language, but in English, which is widely seen as the ticket to higher paying jobs.‎ ‎28.How does the Ethiopia program benefit the kids in the village?‎ A. It trains teachers for them.‎ B. It contributes to their self-study.‎ C. It helps raise their living standards.‎ D. It provides funds for building schools.‎ ‎29.What can we infer from Keller’s words in Paragraph 3?‎ A. They need more time to analyze data.‎ B. More children are needed for the research.‎ C. He is confident about the future of the project.‎ D. The research should be carried out in kindergartens.‎ ‎30.It amazed Keller that with the tablet Kelbesa could _______.‎ A. learn English words quickly.‎ B. draw pictures of animals.‎ C. write letters to researchers.‎ D. make phone calls to his friends.‎ ‎31.What is the aim of the project?‎ A. To offer Ethiopians higher paying jobs.‎ B. To make Amharic widely used in the world.‎ C. To help Ethiopian kids read to learn in English.‎ D. To assist Ethiopians in learning their first language.‎ D Gone are the days when being a celebrity(名人) meant reaching the top of the social ladder. With the Internet, people now no longer need to be actors, sports stars or politicians to be ‎ famous.‎ ‎ You may still remember the time when Furong Jiejie, or Fengjie, appeared online. But I reduced that angle to 15 degrees, because no one likes to strain their necks too much,” she said. Her social media strategies include being very kind to fans. “As soon as you let down your guard, people will start to approach,” she said.‎ ‎32.What is the author’s attitude toward Furong Jiejie?‎ A. They open Instagram accounts for their girlfriends.‎ C. They show off their photography skills on the internet.‎ D. Their duty is to take pictures of their wives or girlfriends.‎ ‎34.What can we infer from Zhang Dayi’s words?‎ A. Celebrities are hard to meet.‎ B. Being a internet celebrity is not easy.‎ C. She has the most followers on the net.‎ D. Being friendly is a way of attracting fans.‎ ‎35.What can be the best title of the text?‎ A. The age of Internet is coming.‎ B.
