My job involved wheeling residents to the community hall for activities. Elizabeth would wave from her darkened room but refuse to join the gatherings. Nearly blind, and requiring oxygen, she never left her bedside. I soon learned, though, that she loved books, and every day after work I would read to her.‎ ‎ In dim light we made our way through “King Lear,” “Henry IV,” “Jane Eyre,” the poems of Rupert Brooke.‎ ‎ Two golden hours might pass before I’d pack up to return to my apartment. Before I could leave she’d press my hand, saying, “Child — my literary child. You bring me such joy.” Elizabeth’s husband died a decade earlier, and their only child, a daughter, was distant for what heartbreaking reason I never knew.‎ ‎ One day an old friend of hers visited and brought her some soup. Smiling broadly, Elizabeth ‎ squeezed my arm. “Tomorrow, child, we shall feast.”‎ ‎ The next evening I found Elizabeth’s bed empty. “I’m sorry,” the nurse whispered. She handed me a box and nodded. “She left everything to you.” At home, I unpacked it, finding two white sweaters, the dozen leather-bound books and, at the bottom, the can of soup.‎ ‎ That summer I decided my path. I returned to school to study literature.‎ ‎ And for 26 years the soup has stayed in my kitchen. It remained unopened and now is rusted(生锈的). But the memories are preserved.‎ ‎24. Why did Elizabeth refuse to join the gatherings?‎ A. She had many books to read. ‎ B. She was not a very social person.‎ C. She was restricted in her movement. ‎ D. She had no interest in those activities.‎ ‎25. What do we know about Elizabeth?‎ A. She loved writing poems. B. She often visited her friends.‎ C. She got divorced ten years ago. D. She had little contact with her daughter.‎ ‎26. Which is correct to best describe the author according to the text?‎ A. She used to be doctor. ‎ B. She was inspired by Elizabeth.‎ C. She taught literature for 26 years. ‎ D. She didn’t like the taste of the soup.‎ ‎27. What is the best title for the passage?‎ A. A book-loving friend ‎ B. An unforgettable literary journey C. An interesting nursing experience ‎ D. A short-term job and its lifelong impact ‎ C It used to be a matter of fact when Peter Pan — a character from James Matthew Barrie’s 1911 book — said: “All children, except one, grow up.”‎ But this “fact” doesn’t seem to apply to today’s world anymore.‎ According to the NPD Group, a US market research company, sales of toys to adults in the UK ‎ increased by more than 20 percent in 2016, three times the pace of the children’s toy market itself. These toys ranged from puzzles and Lego building sets to vehicle models and action figures. And more than half of the sales came from millennials — people born between the 1980s and 2000s.‎ ‎“Adults of the 21st century are channeling their inner child, one toy at a time,” commented website Koreaboo. This is also why these adults are sometimes referred to as “kidults”.‎ According to Frederique Tutt, an analyst at NPD, the motivation of these grown-ups is to escape the stress of today’s fast-paced world. They are driven toward the more immediate pleasures brought by toys than those brought by, say, getting a promotion, which is far less easy to achieve.‎ ‎“It reminds me of the playful side of life,” Rob Willner, a 25-year-old PhD student in the UK, told The Telegraph when talking about his love for Lego, which he said brings him both comfort and entertainment.‎ Despite this, some social scientists see the trend as disturbing. To Frank Furendi, a professor at the University of Kent in the UK, the fact that so many adults are pursuing “the thrills of youth” is the evidence that “adulthood has got nothing attractive about it anymore”, he told The New York Times. “That’s actually quite sad.”‎ But scientists are probably just worrying too much. According to Canadian comic book artist Todd McFarlane, collecting toys could simply be a way for people to express their individuality. “It’s just pop culture stuff. It’s stuff that says, ‘I like a little of this and I like a little of that’,” he told ABC News. “It’s no big deal.”‎ So now that over 100 years have passed since Peter Pan, perhaps it’s time to introduce a new “fact”, as stated in the tagline (标语) of the UK fashion brand KIDULT: “Growing old is mandatory (被迫的), but growing up is optional.”‎ ‎28. What does the underlined sentence in paragraph 2 imply?‎ A. Something old is not suitable for a new world.‎ B. Many adults still have some childlike features.‎ C. All children grow up as they become adults.‎ D. It’s difficult for some children to grow up in today’s world.‎ ‎29.Which of the following statements is true?‎ A. Frederique Tutt believes that some adults enjoy playing with children’s toys to escape the stress.‎ A. Rob Willner believes that the pleasure brought by toys is easier to achieve.‎ B. Frank Furendi believes that the thrill of youth does not attract adults.‎ C. Todd McFarlane is worrying too much about collecting toys.‎ ‎30.What is the writer’s attitude towards the trend of growing kidults?‎ A. ‎ Supportive B. Doubtful C. Critical D. Indifferent ‎31.What can be the best title for the passage?‎ A. Growing Old Or Growing Up B. Toys Sales On The Rise C. Staying Young Forever D. Kidults In Fashion Again D Do you have imagination? Do you like to solve problems? Can you? If so, you could be the next great inventor. "But I’m just a kid," you might say! Don’t worry about a little thing like age. For example, one famous inventor — Benjamin Franklin — got his start when he was only 12. At that young age, he created paddles for his hands to help him swim faster. Finally his creation led to what we know is called flippers! ‎ So you don’t have to be an adult to be an inventor. One thing you do need, though, is something that kids have plenty of: curiosity and imagination. Kids are known for looking at things in new and unique ways.‎ So what should you do if you have what is a great idea for an invention? Talk to a friend or family member about it. Get input from others about your idea. Then ask them to help you create a working model — called a prototype(原型) — of your idea.‎ Once you have a prototype, you can test it. Sometimes your idea turns out to be not as great as you thought. At other times, though, you realize it is a good idea and your prototype can help you figure out how to make it even better.‎ If your idea is really a good one, an adult can help you contact companies that might be interested in it. You will also want an adult’s help to get a patent(专利权) for your idea, so that it is protected and can’t be stolen by someone else. If you need some inspiration, consider these kids and their inventions:‎ Jeanie Low invented the Kiddie Stool when she was just 11. It’s a folding stool that fits under the kitchen sink. Kids can unfold it and use it to reach the sink all by themselves.‎ At the age of 15, Louis Braille invented the system named after him that allows the blind to ‎ read.‎ Chelsea Lanmon received a patent when she was just 8 for the "pocket diaper", a new type of diaper that includes a pocket for holding baby wipes and powder.  ‎ ‎32. By saying "But I’m just a kid", you probably means you .‎ A. are too young to achieve anything ‎ B. can do anything though you are young C. are old enough to become an inventor ‎ D. have to learn knowledge from other people ‎33. Kids are most likely to be inventors probably because they .‎ A. would like to make friends with others ‎ B. usually work hard at their lessons at school C. like playing all kinds of toys at home ‎ D. think about things in quite different ways ‎34. Who invented something that helps the blind to read?‎ A. Jeanie Low.   ‎ B. Benjamin Franklin.‎ C. Chelsea Lanmon.  ‎ D. Louis Braille.‎ ‎35. Which of the following can be the best title for this passage?‎ A. Kids have curiosity and imagination. ‎ B. There are some world famous inventors.‎ C. Kids are exactly like adults in a way. ‎ D. It is possible for kids to be inventors.‎ 第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)‎ ‎ 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。‎ It’s nice being nice to others; it’s also great to give people a hand. However, if you start to hurt yourself by doing so, then this is not so healthy. 36 If you fear that you might fall into this category(类别), the following tips will help you to stand up for yourself and regain(重新获得) your self-confidence.‎ ‎ 37 ‎ Although you may often stay silent if something is wrong or bothers(妨碍) you, it is better to speak your mind right away. You don’t have to be rude, but you do have to be firm(坚定的) and direct. Don’t do things for others if you don’t really want to. Speak up, and soon others will be seeing you in a whole new light.‎ Start small.‎ ‎ 38 This will allow you to practice being brave and self-confident. Tell a person who has cut in line in front of you to move to the back of the line, or tell a salesperson to do that. Before long, you will be confident enough to stand up to your friends and family member.‎ Judge well.‎ When dealing with others, you have to exercise good judgment. 39 If a colleague(同事) isn’t doing his part, you should rightfully demand that he start doing so. However, if a taxi cuts you off in traffic, just let it go.‎ ‎ 40 Rome wasn’t built in a day. If you want to get back again after having been a pushover(耳软心活的人), it’s best to take one step at a time.‎ ‎ A. Express yourself.‎ ‎ B. Regain your confidence.‎ ‎ C. Start by speaking up for yourself with strangers.‎ ‎ D. Everyone has the right to live without being judged.‎ ‎ E. If you slip back into the pushover mode(模式) every once in a while, don’t blame yourself.‎ ‎ F. Sadly, some people are so easily pushed around that they come to be seen as pushovers(耳软心活的人).‎ ‎ G. It’s one thing to be confident, but quite another to forcefully say no to an unreasonable request.‎ 第三部分 语言知识运用 第一节:完形填空(共20小题;每小题1.5分,满分30分)‎ 阅读下面短文,从A、B、C、D四个选项中,选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项标号涂黑 There are many brands of chocolate.
