‎ A A ship was sailing on the sea. A black boy who worked at the end of the ship fell into the sea. He shouted for help, but the wind was so strong that the people on the ship could not hear him. The boy tried his best to swim in the cold water, wave his arms, and keep the head out of the water. The ship sailed farther and farther and became smaller. In the end, he could see nothing except the endless sea.‎ His power was used up and he felt he was going to sink. “ Maybe I need to give up?” he said to himself. At this time, he thought of the kind and friendly old captain. “No! The captain must be searching for me!” he thought. Then he was full of power and began to swim. Finally the captain found the black boy was missing. So be ordered his ship to return to look for the boy. But someone told the captain,“ A long time has passed. He must have been drowned or have been eaten by a shark.” And someone else said ,“Is it worth to save a black boy like this?” The captain shouted. “Shut up”!Finally, the ship arrived and the captain saved the kid. When the boy woke up, the captain asked, “How can you insist for such a long time?” The boy answered, “I knew you would save me! I was very sure.” It is a lucky thing to believe a person. Nowadays in this society, maybe we are unwilling to believe something, just because someone ever hurts us badly. Actually, ‎ I still believe that there are more kind people than indifferent people. Believe it or not, it depends on you! 1. Which of the following statements about the captain is true?‎ A. The captain was kind and responsible.‎ B. As soon as the boy fell into the sea, the captain ordered someone to save his at once.‎ C. The captain didn’t find the boy missing until the ship arrived at the destination.‎ D. The captain was unwilling to save the boy because he had racial discrimination.‎ ‎2. What's the meaning of the underlined word “indifferent ”in the last paragraph in Chinese? A.相同的          B.冷漠的              C.类似的             D.残忍的 3. What does the author want to tell us?‎ ‎ A. The power of believing B. A kind captain and a brave boy C. An exciting trip D. A big wind on the sea.‎ B I love charity shops and so do lots of other people in Britain because you find quite a few of them on every high street. The charity shop is a British institution, selling everything from clothes to electric goods, all at very good prices. You can get things you won’t find in the shops anymore. The thing I like best about them is that your money is going to a good cause and not into the pockets of profit-driven companies, and you are not damaging the planet, but finding a new home for unwanted goods.‎ The first charity shop was opened in 1947 by Oxfam. The famous charity’s appeal to aid post-war Greece had been so successful that it had been flooded with donations. They decided to set up a shop to sell some of these donations to raise money for that appeal. Now there are over 7,000 charity shops in the UK. My favorite charity shop in my hometown is the Red Cross shop, where I always find Children’s books, all 10 or 20 pence each.‎ Most of the people working in the charity shops are volunteers, although there is often a manager who gets paid. Over 90% of the goods in the charity shops are donated by the public. Every morning you see bags of unwanted items outside the front of shops, although they don’t encourage this, rather ask people to bring things in when the shop is open.‎ The shops have very low running costs, and all profits go to charity work. Charity shops raise more than£110 million a year, funding medical research, overseas aid, supporting sick and poor children, homeless and disabled people, and much more. What better places to spend your money? You get something special for a very good price and a good moral sense. You provide funds to a good cause and step lightly on the environment.‎ ‎4. The underlined word “it” in the second paragraph refers to __________?‎ A. the famous charity’s appeal B. the first charity shop C. postwar Greece D. the famous charity: Oxfam ‎5. The author loves the charity shop mainly because _____________.  ‎ A. it is convenient and close to his house ‎ B. it has a wide range of goods C. it is willing to contribute to a great cause ‎ D. it offers a nice shopping environment ‎6. The first charity shop in the UK was set up to_______________. ‎ A. sell cheap products to Greece B. help a foreign country to restore itself C. deal with unwanted things D. raise money for patients ‎7. Which of the following is TRUE about charity shops?‎ A. The operating costs are very high. B. The staff are mostly voluntary.‎ C. 90% of the donations are second-hand. D. They are open twenty-four hours a day.‎ C Many people have excuses for not learning a foreign language. One of the common ones is that they don’t have a gift for language learning. The excuse that one has ‎ no talent for learning a certain skill is a tragedy in itself, and this common excuse has possibly discouraged millions of people from accomplishing great things.‎ ‎ Many experts and scholars, such as K. Ander Ericsson, one of the world’s leading theoretical(理论的) and experimental researchers, have proposed the theory that skill is mostly a matter of large amounts of deliberate practice. Books such as The Talent Code have helped popularize it. While I do not personally believe that we all learn at the same pace or that we are all born the same, I certainly believe that we can all achieve amazing results beyond our imagination, simply through motivation and hard work. To be specific, anything can be learned, unless of course, you start with the belief that you are not talented.‎ ‎ The truth is that if you think you are not talented in languages, it probably has something to do with your track record in language classes at school. This isn’t surprising because the curriculum of language classes is made so that it teaches languages in one way, whereas we all learn differently. It might be good at this point to mention that doing interesting stuff does significantly help with the acquisition (获得) of a foreign language. For most of us, this excludes(排除) grammar and drills to a large extent.‎ ‎ In my interview with polyglot—speaking or using many languages—and author Susanna Zaraysky, Susanna said that her teacher in high school once told her that she should probably look for another subject to focus her efforts on instead of languages. Susanna now speaks nine languages, has written a book entitled Language is Music, and has traveled to exciting places all over the world. Benny Lewis, probably one of the best known language learners and bloggers on the Internet, has a strikingly similar story, and he now speaks over 12 languages. Not “talented”, eh?‎ ‎8. What is the excuse for language learning mentioned in the text?‎ ‎ A. I cannot learn languages well. B. I have no genius for learning language.‎ ‎ C. I’m not fond of learning languages. D. I don’t consider foreign languages vital.‎ ‎9. Which of the following statements might the author probably agree with?‎ ‎ A. Language classes aren’t suitable for everyone.‎ ‎ B. Schools usually try to make language classes interesting.‎ C. Grammar and drills are the least important in language learning.‎ ‎ D. The talent for languages makes you interested in learning them.‎ ‎10. How does the author explain his idea in the last paragraph?‎ A. By telling stories. B. By explaining facts.‎ C. By giving examples. D. By making comparison.‎ 第二节 (共5小题;每小题2分, 满分10分)‎ 根据短文内容, 从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。‎ If you want to save money on groceries, following ways will help you cut $100 out of your monthly grocery bill without too much effort.‎ ‎ 11 Convenience lets you save time for other things you need to get done.‎ Pre-made items may save your time, but they cost a pretty penny. These items come in the form of packaged dinners or pre-cut produce. Instead of that plate of cut pineapple, buy the whole fruit or vegetable for a part of the cost.‎ Know what to buy in bulk (大批). Shopping at warehouse stores can be a great way to save money, but not every item is worth buying in bulk. 12 ‎ Skip the meat. The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that the average cost of beef is $ 4.13 per pound this March. 13 If you skip the beef twice a week, you can instantly cut $30 to $40, if not more, off your grocery bill each month.‎ Know what to buy in season. Fruits and vegetables are a great addition to your daily diet, but they can add a significant amount to your grocery bill, especially when you buy items out of season. 14 If your favorite items are getting ready to go out of season, consider buying a little extra and freezing them.‎ ‎ 15 However, there are ways to stretch your dollar further without hurting your habits.‎ A. Store pre-made items.‎ B. Skip the prepared items.‎ C. Shopping for groceries can be an expensive attempt.‎ D. Beef has seen a significant increase in price over the past few years.‎ E. The cost can add up quickly if you’re eating beef three or four times per week.‎ F. As produce items go out of season, they become more expensive as the supply decreases.‎ G. Certain items make sense to buy in large quantities as they typically have a longer shelf life.‎ 第二部分 语言运用 (共两节, 满分45分)‎ 第一节 完形填空 (共20小题;每题1.5分, 满分30分) ‎ 阅读下面短文, 从每题所给的A、B、C和D四个选项中, 选出最佳选项, 并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。 ‎ One day when I was 15 years old, I had some friends over to hang out. There’re people who are born without legs, or who lack 28 working legs, or who lose their legs, and I’d been hiding my perfectly strong, healthy, beautiful legs 29 because I had 30 someone to convince me that they weren’t good enough. The next day, I bought three pairs of shorts and a sundress and spent the entire summer letting my legs 31 the sun and feel the breeze.‎ The next time anyone comments on your body in a 32 way, look them straight in the eye, smile and say, “If what you see 33 you so much, feel free to practice the ancient art of looking 34 else.” That’s Ragen’s own 35 , but I don’t think she’ll mind if you use it.‎ ‎16. Jumbo was proud of his huge trunk. Serpent was proud that people were afraid of him due to his poisonous bite. Jill was proud that she could fly high and see everything around the world.‎ One day a forest meeting was held and all the animals gathered to make a few decisions. These four animals were also present. Roller the sparrow addressed the gathering, “Hello, all the animals are here. We have to choose the new king of the jungle as the king lion has passed away. We have to choose someone among us who has great qualities.” Hearing this, all the animals started boasting(自夸) about their qualities. Jaggu said that he could help anyone in need by jumping through trees speedily. Jumbo said that he was a mighty animal in the forest and could keep all the animals safe from any attackers. Serpent disagreed with others and said that if he was sworn in as the ling, he would keep all the animals happy because no one will dare to attack them. Jill also boasted about her soft leathers.‎ Soon Rollet the sparrow got an idea. He told all the animals that there would be a task for all those who wanted to be the next head of the forest. All the animals there wanted to know about the task. Rollet said, “As we all know, the lion’s enemy is the hyena(鬣狗); today we have to fight and kill it.
