New research suggests that, at least when someone close by could be looking over your shoulder, you might be safer with an old-fashioned PIN.‎ The research by the United States Naval Academy and the University of Maryland tested what could best secure smartphones from so-called "shoulder surfing attacks". So, if you are worried about someone looking over your shoulder while you unlock your phone, would you be wiser to use a PIN or a pattern? According to this research at least, the answer to that question is pretty clear.‎ Those who have a single observation of your screen as you unlock it with a swipe pattern will be successful in knowing it 64.2% of the time. Security can be improved somewhat by removing lines on the pattern lock (35.3% success rate for shoulder surfers).‎ By comparison, the use of a six-digit PIN greatly reduces the chances for an attacker to determine how to unlock your smartphone, with just 10.8% of attacks being successful. In tests, viewers were able to determine the users' lock-screen patterns from up to six feet away, from a variety of different angles, even after a single viewing.‎ Indeed, when it comes to safety, past research has determined that an unlock pattern is about the same as a three-digit PIN -something I hope that none of us would rely upon.‎ The researchers' conclusion is that a PIN of six digits or more is the most secure de fence against shoulder surfing attacks, and while both types of pattern lock are poor, patterns without ‎ lines provide greater security.‎ Unsurprisingly, the research confirmed that phones with larger screens were found to provide less security against shoulder surfing attacks.‎ ‎4.What did the research focus on?‎ A.What lock-screen patterns people use. B.When shoulder surfing attacks occur.‎ C.Why people prefer numeric PIN codes. D.How you can unlock your phone safely.‎ ‎5.What do we learn about shoulder surfing attacks?‎ A.They can increase our screen time. B.A three-digit PIN.‎ C.A lock-screen pattern with lines. D.A lock-screen pattern without lines.‎ ‎7.What does the author intend to do in the last paragraph?‎ A.Add some background information. B.Provide some advice for the readers.‎ C.Offer additional topic-related information. D.Summarize the previous paragraphs.‎ C On Tuesday, Apple's CEO Tim Cook announced the Apple Watch. The new smart device, which is worn on the wrist, just like a normal watch, can do all the things a cell phone does--and more.‎ At $349, the Apple Watch is expensive. Some experts doubt that they will become as successful as smartphones. It does seem likely, though, that the device will open yet another door in personal computing. The watch is the smartest computer yet. It taps you on the wrist whenever a new message comes in. It prepares answers to questions you receive from friends. It reminds you where you parked your car. It tracks your health. It even allows you to send your heartbeat to others.‎ When it goes on sale early next year, it will be Apple's first item in a new category of technology--wearable computers. If the Apple Watch becomes popular, it will change the way the world interacts with computers. People may depend on the smart jewelry even more than they already depend on their phones. "It might not only be a game changer for Apple, but for the entire industry." says technology expert Daniel Ives. "A lot of major technology players around th e globe are taking notes on what Apple is trying to do here."‎ The Apple watch is specially designed for a smaller device. An entire computer fits onto a single chip(芯片). Users will be able to scroll(滚屏)just like they would do on an iPhone. It will have a built-in speaker for alarms that users can both hear and feel. Pressing the side button brings up contacts so you can communicate with people quickly and easily. Apple Watch also introduces health and fitness apps that can help people lead healthier lives. The built- in heart rate sensor (传感器) and GPS will track calories burned and workouts.‎ According to Matt Vella, a writer for TIME magazine, the watch is the most exciting device since the iPad. After actually trying the watch, he says, “It sits on the wrist very naturally. You could easily forget you are wearing the Apple Watch, and you will."‎ ‎8.What does the underlined sentence in the third paragraph imply?‎ A.Apple Watch will include many new games.‎ B.Many game developers will pay attention to Apple Watch.‎ C.Apple plays an important part in the personal computing field.‎ D.Apple Watch will greatly influence the personal computing field.‎ ‎9.The fourth paragraph mainly tells us .‎ A.how the Apple Watch works B.the small size of the Apple Watch C.what information we can get from the Apple Watch D.the difference between the Apple Watch and the iPhone ‎10.The side button on the Apple Watch is used to .‎ A.sound the alarm B.adjust the built-in speaker C.build the man-machine communication D.make the health and fitness apps start working ‎11.What is Matt Vella's attitude towards the Apple Watch?‎ A.Doubtful. B.Favorable. C.Objective. D.Unbelievable.‎ D Cruz Genet, 11, and Anthony Skopick, 10, couldn’t agree. Were the birds out on the ice ducks or geese? So on a cold January evening last year, the two friends ventured (冒险) onto the frozen pond near their homes in Frankfort, Illinois, to get a better look. First, they threw a rock onto the ice to test it, Cruz told NBC 5 Chicago. “Then we stepped on it.” Convinced the ice ‎ would hold their weight, Anthony took a few steps, but then he fell through the seemingly frozen surface.‎ Cruz rushed to help his panicked friend. However, the pond swallowed him, too. Cruz managed to lift himself out of the extremely cold water and onto a more solid section. He then gingerly worked his way toward Anthony. But the ice didn’t hold, and he fell in again. This ime, he couldn’t get out.‎ The boys were up to their necks in icy water and quickly losing feeling. Any chance of their freeing themselves was slipping away. Cruz was sure that he was going to die.‎ Anthony’s older sister had seen the boys fall through the ice and started screaming, wishing someone to save them.‎ John Lavin, a neighbor driving nearby on his way to the grocery store, heard her. He quickly pulled over. Seeing the boys, he grabbed (抓住) a nearby buoy (救生圈), kicked off his shoes, and ran into the cold water, struggling his way through the ice. Lavin made his way to Cruz and Anthony and pulled them back to land.‎ The boys were taken to the hospital, where doctors discovered that their five- minute stay in the water had lowered their body temperature nearly ten degrees. Fortunately, they have fully recovered, though they are still a little amazed by their fearless neighbor. “Just to think,” says Cruz, “if he hadn’t been there, I could have died.”‎ ‎12.Why did the boys venture onto the frozen pond?‎ A.To have a better look at the frozen pond.‎ B.To catch the birds in the pond with rocks.‎ C.To find out what the birds on the ice were.‎ D.To test the thickness of the ice in the pond.‎ ‎13.What does the underlined word “gingerly” in paragraph 2 probably mean?‎ A.Casually.
