But another contrary trend has educators and policy makers abuzz: a rush by schools in all parts of America to offer instructions in Chinese. ‎ Some schools are paying for Chinese classes on their own, but hundreds are getting some help. The Chinese government is sending teachers from China to schools all over the world—and paying part of their salaries. ‎ No one keeps an exact count, but rough calculations based on the government’s survey suggest that perhaps 1,600 American public and private schools are teaching Chinese, up from 300 or so a decade ago. And the number is growing exponentially (成倍地). ‎ ‎“It’s really changing the language education landscape of this country,” said Nancy C. Rhodes, director at the center. Other indicators point to the same trend. “The number of students taking the Advanced Placement test in Chinese, introduced in 2007, has grown so fast that it is likely to pass German this year as the third most-tested A.P. language, after Spanish and French, ” said Trevor Packer, vice president at the College Board. “We’ve all been surprised that in such a short time Chinese would grow to surpass A.P. German,” Mr. Packer said.‎ ‎  A decade ago, most of the schools with Chinese programs were on the East and West‎ ‎Coasts. But in recent years, many schools have started Chinese programs in heartland states, including Ohio and Illinois in the Midwest, Texas and Georgia in the South, and Colorado and Utah in the Rocky Mountain West. America has had the study of a foreign language grow before, only to see the bubble burst. Many schools began teaching Japanese in the 1980s, after Japan emerged as an economic rival. But thousands have dropped the language, the survey found. Japanese is not the ‎ only language that has declined. Thousands of schools that offered French, German or Russian have stopped teaching those languages too, the survey found.‎ ‎59. Which of the following is FALSE according to the passage? ‎ ‎ A. More and more people choose Chinese in A. P. test.‎ B. Japanese, French, German and French have declined in America.‎ C. Chinese programs have been started in more areas in America recently.‎ D. China supports Chinese programs abroad by paying all the salaries of the teachers. ‎ ‎60.What does the underlined word “surpass” in the fourth paragraph mean? ‎ A. Do or be better than.        B. Be equal to. C. Do or be worse than.       D. Be junior to. ‎ ‎61. What does the passage mainly talk about? ‎ ‎ A. American schools have stopped teaching French, German, Japanese and Russian.‎ B. Chinese becomes more popular in America while other foreign languages fade. ‎ C. Chinese is being learned as an official language all over the world.‎ D. People are gradually fond of learning Chinese and Japanese in recent years.‎ C California condors (大秃鹫) are North America’s largest birds, with wing-length of up to 3 meters. In the 1980s, electrical lines and lead poisoning(铅中毒) nearly drove them to dying out. Now, electric shock training and medical treatment are helping to rescue these big birds.‎ In the late 1980s, the last few condors were taken from the wild, and there are now more than 150 flying over California and nearby Arizona, Utah and Baja in Mexico.‎ Electrical lines have been killing them off. “As they go in to rest for the night, they just don’t see the power lines,” says Bruce Rideout of San Diego Zoo. Their wings can bridge the gap between lines, resulting in electrocution (电死) if they touch two lines at once.‎ So scientists have come up with a shocking idea. Tall poles, placed in large training areas, teach the birds to stay clear of electrical lines by giving them a painful but undeadly electric shock. Before the training was introduced, 66% of set-freed condors died of electrocution. This has now dropped to 18%.‎ ‎ Lead poisonous has proved more difficult to deal with. When condors eat dead bodies of other animals containing lead, they absorb large quantities of lead. This affects their nervous systems and ability to produce baby birds, and can lead to kidney failures and death. So condors with high levels of lead are sent to Los Angeles Zoo, where they are treated with calcium EDTA, a chemical that removes lead from the blood over several days. This work is starting to pay off. The annual death rate for adult condors has dropped from 38% in 2008 to 5.4% in 2018. ‎ ‎ Rideout’s team thinks that the California condors’ average survival time in the wild is now just under eight years. “Although these measures are not effective forever, they are vital for now,” he says. “They are truly good birds that are worth every effort we put into recovering them. ”‎ ‎62. We can learn from the passage that ___________. ‎ ‎ A. California condors are America’s largest birds, which can fly up to 3 meters high B. California condors’ risk of dying out attracted researchers’ interest in the 1980s C. electrical lines can lead to California condors’ kidney failures and death ‎ D. the annual death rate for adult condors has dropped by 48% since 2008‎ ‎63. How does the author prove the efforts to recover California condors effective? ‎ ‎ A. By listing and comparing data. B. By analyzing phenomena.‎ C. By setting examples. D. By making comments.‎ ‎64. What can we infer from the last paragraph? ‎ A. The measures are only effective in a very short time.‎ B. The measures will be vital forever if taken properly.‎ C. The measures shouldn’t be taken, for it isn’t effective forever. ‎ D. The measures should be taken, for the birds deserve recovering.‎ ‎65. Which of the following is the best title of the passage? ‎ ‎ A. California Condor’s Shocking Recovery B. California Condor’s unexpected survival C. California Condor’s longer life D. California Condor’s effective training D Although not as much as in the past, grandparents are the teachers of the Navajo (纳瓦霍人) youth. They make young people aware of life at an early age. The parents allow them to teach the children, and the grandparents take great pride in raising the children or at least having a big part in raising them.‎ Young children often stay with their grandparents for years at a time, developing a close and trusting relationship. The grandparents teach the children Navajo legends and the principle of life, emphasizing both new culture trends and the preservation of traditions.‎ The grandparents are also often the leading figures in teaching the youth the arts of weaving (编织), caring for the animals, using herbal medicine, and other arts and crafts.‎ The children are taught to respect their elders, to care for them, to help them whenever they are in need, and to learn from them. Young people are urged to listen with care to the words of their elders and to keep as much wisdom as possible. Grandparents often go to social gatherings and traditional events, and the young have opportunities to learn more about their culture and traditions.‎ I live with my grandmother for thirteen years, and she raised me in the old ways of our people. Although I was going to school, she taught me as much as she could about our traditions. She was a beautiful woman. If I had a chance, I would listen again to her wise teachings, expressed with kindness in a soft voice that touched my heart.‎ We used to plant corn and pumpkin every summer. They never grew big enough to feed us, but we planted them anyway. I asked my grandmother why. She said, “Grandson, our plants will be far more beautiful than the flowers outside the fence.” I did not understand until one day I saw their beauty as I was coming over the hill with her. She said, “Anything that is a part of you is always far more beautiful than the things which you pass by.” We had some beautiful years together. I am glad she is a part of me and I am a part of her.‎ Children used to be well disciplined, showing more respect for culture, tradition, and beliefs than they do now. The world of the Navajo has been influenced by the western world, and the grandparents have less control and influence than they used to. But the young people who have been touched by their teachings have experienced a way of life beyond what most people know today.‎ ‎66. From Paragraph 1 we can learn that ___________. ‎ A. grandparents feel proud of raising their grandchildren ‎ B. parents think only grandparents can raise their children C. there are not schools intended for the Navajo youth ‎ D. children are unwilling to learn from their parents ‎67. What can children learn from their grandparents according to the passage? ‎ ‎ ① legends and the principle of life ② becoming leading figures ‎ ‎③ the arts of weaving ④ making herbal medicine ‎ ‎⑤ caring for the animals ‎ ‎ A. ①③④ B. ①③⑤ C. ②③⑤ D. ②④⑤‎ ‎68. They may worry about social troubles like cliques (朋党), peer pressure, or whether they’ll be bullied (威吓), teased, or left out.‎ There are some tips to help your kids handle what’s worrying them as follows.‎ Find out what’s on their minds. Be interested in what’s happening at school, on the team, and with your kids’ friends. Take casual opportunities to ask how it’s going. As you listen to stories of a day’s events, be sure to ask about what your kids think and feel about what happened. If your children seem to be worried about something, ask them about it.‎ Show your care and understanding. Being interested in your children’s concerns shows they’re important to you. It helps your kids feel supported and understood. Reassuring comments can help — but usually only after you’ve heard your children out. Say that you understand their feelings and the problems.‎ Guide kids to solutions. When your children tell you about a problem, offer to help them. For example, if your son is worried about an upcoming math test, offering to help him study will reduce his concern about it. In most situations, don’t simply jump in and fix the problem for your children. Instead, think it through and come up with possible solutions together. Solve problems with your kids, rather than for them. By taking an active role, kids learn how to handle a problem in an independent way.‎ Be a good role model. Your response to your own worries can go a long way toward teaching your kids how to deal with everyday challenges. If you’re at a loss or angry when dealing with a to-do list that’s too long, your kids will learn that as the proper response to stress.‎ Title Helping kids 71. ___________ with worries Types of their worries ‎●Academic: their lessons, grades, tests ‎●Physical: changes happening to their 72. ___________ ‎ ‎●73. ___________: relationships with their friends, peers, classmates and teachers, roles in a soccer game and the results of it, etc.‎ ‎74. ________‎ Find out what’s ‎● Take a(n) 75. ___________ in what has happened on removing the worries on their minds.‎ ‎ to your kids.‎ ‎● Find out your kids’ attitude and reaction to the happenings.‎ Show your care and understanding.‎ ‎● Show concern about your kids’ life and let them feel your 76. ___________ and understanding. ‎ ‎● Tell them you understand their feelings and the problems.‎ Guide kids to solutions.‎ ‎● Offer help to your kids when they are in trouble.‎ ‎● 77. ___________ solving the problem for them, but with them.‎ ‎● Help your kids develop a habit of solving problems 78. ___________.‎ Be a good role model.‎ ‎● Your response to your own worries can ‎  79. ___________ your kids deeply.‎ ‎● Set them a good 80. ___________ by responding to stress or your worries properly.‎ 第二部分 书面表达 (满分25分)‎ 最近,你们班就长江污染的问题作了一次深入的讨论。 人口急剧增长 看法与 建议 ‎1.‎ ‎2.‎ As the third longest river in the world, the environmental problems of the Yangtze River have raised concern both nationally and internationally. Not only is the amount of water taken from the river rising, but the waste being put back into the river has also been increasing. As a result, a lot of fish and wildlife are endangered. In addition, the drinking water, which hundreds of millions of people rely on the river for, is unsafe now. Therefore, the balance of the ecology has been badly broken.‎ The main reason for the present situation of the Yangtze River is mainly because of the rapid growth of the population, which contributes to the rapid development of agriculture and industry. ‎ In order to focus on water conservation and survival of the wildlife, effective laws are needed and more measures should be taken forcefully to prohibit factories and cities along the river from sending out waste and sewage into the river, and only when every one of us takes action, will we be able to win the battle against the pollution.‎ 听力原文 Text 1‎ M: My sister wanted me to lend her some money. Thanks.‎ Text 8 ‎ W: And just to finish our news — Chris Peterson is going to tell us about the new Crossways sports and fitness center.‎ M: Thanks. It’s almost finished and the sports center will be open to the public on June 16th — that’s for sports and swimming. The fitness center isn’t quite finished, and won’t be open until 21st August, instead of 10th July as planned. ‎ W: And will you give us some information now about what we can do in the sports center?‎ M: Sure. The center provides volleyball, basketball and table tennis indoors. And there are also outdoor sports like football and tennis. There’s also a new swimming pool.‎ W: OK, thank you for your report, Chris.‎ Text 9‎ M: Hey, Judy, what are you reading?‎ W: Well, a passage about wildlife protection organizations.‎ M: Really? I’ve read something about the World Wildlife Fund, you know, whose official sign is a picture of a panda.‎ W: Yeah. It has been working to protect the world’s endangered species since it was founded in 1961. You know there are organizations who focus on certain animals.‎ M: Really? That’s interesting.‎ W: Here it says the Audubon Society focuses on the protection of birds and the Oceanic Society has been working to protect sea wildlife, such as whales, dolphins and other kinds of fish since its foundation in 1969.‎ M: Oh, I know the Audubon Society is named after an American wildlife painter.‎ W: Yes, that’s right. There’s also this one, the Wilderness Society, who works to make sure that the forests, rivers and mountains of the United States remain untouched so that everyone can enjoy their clean air and ‎ water. The Wilderness Society tries to educate the public about that from its head office in Washington, D.C. to its eight branch offices across the United States.‎ Text 10‎ W: Hello, everyone. My name is Caroline Benson. I never expected to spend some of my first ‎ ‎ year at university filming The Finnegans. I’d only ever acted at school, but I’d loved the book since I was eleven. My grandmother used to say I was just like Polly Finnegan and I always imagined myself playing her. And I believe I could play the part well. I’d taken a year off to go traveling before university. While I was in Chile, my mother e-mailed me to say there were plans to turn the book into a film. I knew I had to go for the part. She was surprised at first, but sent my photo to the director and persuaded him to meet me. I flew back and got the part. The outdoor filming took a long time, so I got permission from the university to be away for three weeks. Once I was back at university, I got up at 6:00 a.m. to write the essays I’d missed. I didn’t tell my university friends, but they found out and thought it was great. It was a wonderful experience — I’m so lucky. ‎
