阅读理解 A (2019·东北育才中学模拟) If you believe in thermometers (温度计), you should believe in global warming. And if you believe in eating fries with your burger, you should worry more about carbon emissions. It won't happen overnight, but as the planet's climate changes, the growth cycles of main crops will all be heavily affected. Here are three of the crops that might not beat the heat. The potato actually needs a great deal of beauty rest to develop properly. “They need a cool nighttime temperature in order to start growing the tuber, the part that we eat,” Nelson says. Temperature and altitude are two primary concerns in coffee growth, and farmers are stuck between a rock and a hard place. “We know that coffee grows in a certain temperature range,” Nelson says. “They've been moving up the mountains, but at some point you run out of mountains to move up.” Highergrade strains of Arabica coffee in Central American regions are at particular risk due to the need for lower growing temperature, especially since diseases and pests are also becoming more of a factor as temperatures rise. Even if you're looking at the direct effects of temperature alone, rice is in trouble. “As nighttime temperatures go up, the rice is going to have a problem flowering and won't make as many seeds,” Nelson says. In addition to this direct heat consequence, rising sea levels will flood many rice fields and destroy water salinity levels, while droughts will lower production, raise prices, and further shame westerners who are too clumsy with chopsticks to be able to clear their plates once a new grain is adopted. 1.What is the closest meaning to the underlined word “emissions” in Paragraph 1? A.Mixture. B.Pollution. C.Going down. D.Letting off. 2.What does the potatoes' development need according to Nelson? A.Enough water and salt. B.Cool temperature at night. C.Much sunshine and fresh air. D.Sudden rise of the temperature. They need a cool nighttime temperature in order to start growing the tuber可知,马铃薯的生长需要凉爽的温度。 3.The rice is difficult to flower, probably because ________. A.sea levels go up suddenly B.the temperature rises at night C.many seeds can't be produced D.both temperature and altitude rise 答案:B 解析:细节理解题。 As nighttime temperatures go up, the rice is going to have a problem flowering and won't make as many seeds可知,随着夜间温度升高,水稻就很难开花结子。 4.What is the best title for the text? A.How Does Global Warming Affect Westerners? B.How Does the Cool Temperature Affect Rice? C.What Is the Real Reason for Crops' Growth? D.Three Crops That Won't Survive Minor Climate Changes 答案:D 解析:标题判断题。 Here are three of the crops that might not beat the heat可知,如果气温变化太大,马铃薯、咖啡和水稻则不能生存。故选D。 B (2019·四川成都开发区实验中学检测) My daughter is only two years old right now, but it seems that younger and younger children are being led to formal testing these days. It's hard to picture little kids even sitting still long enough to complete a written test. Never mind the amount of experiential learning that is missed when everyone is so preoccupied with testing scores. I feel like all of this testing encourages rote memorization (死记硬背) at 8 the expense of critical thinking and creativity, and it worries me. As adults, we haven't learned our lessons in this way. Some of our most indemand professions require vast creativity along with critical thinking. Most of us are happier when we use our bodies, our creative abilities, and pursue our interests. This leads me to think: what if I raised my kid only for the test? I guess this imaginary toddler test would include something about reading basic words. So instead of spending time with a few friends at the nature center, where my daughter got to pet (抚摸) a live snake, we would be at home reviewing how to identify and spell the word “snake”. At the zoo, we wouldn't have had a fiveminute conversation about why some birds stand on one foot. I would have been too busy asking her about the feeding habits of animals. You know, the pleasures of life can be condensed (压缩) into multiple choice questions. We wouldn't have time for her playgroup, where she has gained a ton of social confidence and close friendships. She's learned how to take back a stolen toy, how to let it go if she doesn't care, how to hug her friends goodbye and to generally enjoy the company of others. All the skills are not addressed in a paper exam. We probably wouldn't have spent time making banana bread, doing yoga together or creating a princess castle out of building blocks — because these skills may not test well. But I argue that they are important — simply because of their ability to increase the enjoyment of life. 5.What's the author's attitude towards formal testing? A.Practical. B.Supportive. C.Critical. D.Uncertain. 6.The author wants his daughter to know a snake by ________. A.raising a snake as a pet at home B.asking the feeding habit of a snake C.touching a snake at the nature center 8 D.identifying the word “snake” at home 答案:C 解析:推理判断题。 7.What does the author want to express in the last two paragraphs? A.His daughter has gained basic social skills. B.There are more important skills than formal testing. C.His daughter has lost confidence and friendships. D.There are several barriers to the enjoyment of life 答案:B 解析:推理判断题。 8.The text is developed mainly by ________. A.raising questions B.analyzing causes C.giving descriptions D.making comparisons 答案:D 解析:推理判断题。 Ⅱ.完形填空 (2019·河北武邑中学模拟考试) There are benefits of gardening that you may not realize. One __1__ of growing plants might be that it can help you save money.
