His childhood lacked the harmony that was typical of a happy family. Later, Yeats shocked his family by saying that he remembered "little of childhood but its pain". In fact, he inherited (继承) excellent taste in art from his family — both his father and his brother were painters. But he finally settled on literature, particularly drama and poetry. ‎ ‎ Yeats had strong faith in the coming of new artistic movements. He set himself the fresh task in founding an Irish national theatre in the late 1890s. His early theatrical experiments, however, were not received favorably at the beginning. He didn't lose heart, and finally enjoyed success in his poetical drama. ‎ ‎ Compared with his dramatic works, Yeats's poems attract much admiring notice. The subject matter includes love, nature, history, time and aging. Though Yeats generally relied on very traditional forms, he brought modern sensibility to them. As his literary life progressed, his poetry grew finer and richer, which led him to worldwide recognition. ‎ ‎ He had not enjoyed a major public life since winning the Nobel Prize in 1923. Yet, he continued writing almost to the end of his life. Had Yeats stopped writing at age 40, he would probably now be valued as a minor poet, for there is no other example in literary history of a poet who produces his greatest works between the ages of 50 and 75. After Yeats's Death in 1939, W. H. Auden wrote, among others, the following lines: ‎ Earth, receive an honoured guest:‎ William Yeats is laid to rest. ‎ Let the Irish vessel (船) lie Emptied of its poetry.‎ ‎24. Which of the following can describe Yeats's family?‎ A. It filled Yeats's childhood with laughter.‎ B. It was shocked by Yeats's choice.‎ C. It was a typically wealthy family.‎ D. It had an artistic atmosphere.‎ ‎25. According to the passage, what do we know about Yeats's life?‎ A. Yeats founded the first Irish theater.‎ B. Yeats stuck to modern forms in his poetry.‎ C. Yeats began to produce his best works from the 1910s.‎ D. Yeats was not favored by the public until the 1923 Noble Prize.‎ ‎26. What kind of feeling is expressed in W. H. Auden's lines?‎ A. Envy B. Sympathy C. Emptiness D. Admiration ‎27. What is the passage mainly about?‎ A. Yeats's literary achievements B. Yeats's historical influence C. Yeats's artistic ambition D. Yeats's national honor ‎【答案】24. D 25. C 26. D 27. In fact, he inherited (继承) excellent taste in art from his family — both his father and his brother were painters. But he finally settled on literature, particularly drama and poetry. Had Yeats stopped writing at age 40, he would probably now be valued as a minor poet, for there is no other example in literary history of a poet who produces his greatest works between the ages of 50 and 75.和William Butler Yeats, a most famous Irish writer, was born in Dublin on June 13, 1865. After Yeats's Death in 1939, W. H. Auden wrote, among others, the following lines: Earth, receive an honoured guest: William Yeats is laid to rest. Let the Irish vessel (船) lie Emptied of its poetry. ‎ 考点:考查人物传记类短文阅读 C Measles (麻疹), which once killed 450 children each year and disabled even more, was nearly wiped out in the United States 14 years ago by the universal use of the MMR vaccine (疫苗). But the disease is making a comeback, caused by a growing anti-vaccine movement and misinformation that is spreading quickly. Already this year,‎ ‎ 115 measles cases have been reported in the USA, compared with 189 for all of last year.‎ The numbers might sound small, but they are the leading edge of a dangerous trend. When vaccination rates are very high, as they still are in the nation as a whole, everyone is protected. This is called “herd immunity”, which protects the people who get hurt easily, including those who can't be vaccinated for medical reasons, babies too young to get vaccinated and people on whom the vaccine doesn't work.‎ But herd immunity works only when nearly the whole herd joins in. When some refuse vaccination and seek a free ride, immunity breaks down and everyone is in even bigger danger. That's exactly what is happening in small neighborhoods around the country from Orange County, California, where 22 measles cases were reported this month, to Brooklyn, N.Y., where a 17-year-old caused an outbreak last year.‎ The resistance to vaccine has continued for decades, and it is driven by a real but very small risk. Those who refuse to take that risk selfishly make others suffer.‎ Making things worse are state laws that make it too easy to opt out (决定不参加) of what are supposed to be required vaccines for all children entering kindergarten. Seventeen states allow parents to get an exemption (豁免), sometimes just by signing a paper saying they personally object to a vaccine.‎ Now, several states are moving to tighten laws by adding new regulations for opting out. But no one does enough to limit exemptions. Parents ought to be able to opt out only for limited medical or religious reasons. But personal opinions? Not good enough. Everyone enjoys the life-saving benefits vaccines provide, but they'll exist only as long as everyone shares in the risks.‎ ‎28. What does the first two paragraphs suggest?‎ A. Information about measles spreads quickly. B. Anti-vaccine movement has its medical reasons.‎ C. A few measles cases can start a dangerous trend. D. The outbreak of measles attracts the public attention.‎ ‎29. Herd immunity works well when _____________.‎ A. Exemptions are allowed. B. Several vaccines are used ‎ together.‎ C. The whole neighborhood is involved in. D. New regulations are added to the state laws.‎ ‎30. What is the main reason for the comeback of measles?‎ A. The overuse of vaccine. B. The lack of medical care.‎ C. The features of measles itself. D. The choice of some people.‎ ‎31. What is the purpose of the passage?‎ A. To introduce the idea of exemption. B. To discuss methods to cure measles.‎ C. To stress the importance of vaccination D. To appeal for equal rights in medical treatment.‎ ‎【答案】28. C 29. C 30. D 31. The numbers might sound small but they are the leading edge of a dangerous trend. But herd immunity works only when nearly the whole herd joins in. But the disease is making a comeback caused by a growing anti-Vaccine movement and misinformation that is spreading quickly C。‎ D Many leading AI researchers think that in a matter of decades, artificial intelligence will be able to do not merely some of our jobs, but all of our jobs, forever transforming life on Earth.‎ The reason why many regard this as science fiction is that we've traditionally thought of intelligence as something mysterious that can only exist in biological organisms, especially humans. But such an idea is unscientific.‎ From my point of view as a physicist and AI researcher, intelligence is simply a certain kind of information-processing performed by elementary particles (基本粒子) moving around, and there is no law of physics that says one can't build machines more intelligent than us in all ways. This suggests that we've only seen the tip of the intelligence iceberg and that there is an amazing potential to unlock the full intelligence that is potential in nature and use it to help humanity.‎ If we get it right, the upside is huge. Since everything we love about civilization is the product of intelligence, amplifying (扩大) our own intelligence with AI has the potential to solve tomorrow's toughest problems. For example, why risk our loved ones dying in traffic accidents that self-driving cars could prevent or dying of cancers that AI might help us find cures for? Why not increase productivity through automation (自动化) and use AI to accelerate our research and development of affordable sustainable (可持续的) energy?‎ I'm optimistic that we can develop rapidly with advanced AI as long as we win the race between the growing power of our technology and the knowledge with which we manage it. But this requires giving up our outdated concept of learning form mistakes. That helped us win the race with less powerful technology: We messed up with fire and then invented fire extinguishers (灭火器), and we messed up with cars and then invented seat belts. However, it's an awful idea for more powerful ‎ technologies, such as nuclear weapons or superintelligent AI—where even a single mistake is unacceptable and we need to get things right the first time.‎ ‎32. How do many people feel about leading AI researchers' predictions?‎ A. Worried. B. Curious. C. Doubtful. D. Disappointed.‎ ‎33. What does the author think of intelligence?‎ A. We know little about it. B. It belongs to human beings.‎ C. It is too difficult to understand. D. We have nothing more to discover.‎ ‎34. What does the underlined word “upside” in Paragraph 4 probably mean?‎ A. Cost. B. Risk. C. Quantity. D. Advantage.‎ ‎35. What's important for us in the race between people and technology?‎ A. Learning from failure. B. Increasing our intelligence.‎ C. Avoiding making mistakes. D. Being more optimistic.‎ ‎【答案】32. C 33. A 34. D 35. The reason why many regard this as science fiction is that we've traditionally thought of intelligence as something mysterious that can only exist in biological organisms, especially humans. But such an idea is unscientific. This suggests that we've only seen the tip of the intelligence iceberg and that there is an amazing potential to unlock the full intelligence that is potential in nature and use it to help humanity. 故选A。 Since everything we love about civilization is the product of intelligence, amplifying (扩大) our own intelligence with AI has the potential to solve tomorrow's toughest problems. However, it’s an awful idea for more powerful technologies, such as nuclear weapons or superintelligent AI— where even a single mistake is unacceptable and we need to get things right the first time. Since everything we love about civilization is the product of intelligence, amplifying (扩大) our own intelligence with AI has the potential to solve tomorrow's toughest problems. ‎ All over the world people are hooked on sports, which help them to strengthen their body and build their character. _____36_____ They improve the participants’ physical skills, and provided entertainment for the audience as well.‎ Many people like to watch others play games. _____37_____ Often they get very excited when “their” player or team wins. Water skiing, as a modern game, is one of the newest in the family of sports.‎ People from different countries or races may not be able to understand each other, but after a game, they get to know each other better and they often become good friends. Sports help to train a person’s character. ___40___‎ They also learn to be competitive and optimistic, which will equip them for life challenges in the future.‎ A. And the friendship may last for a life time.‎ B. They buy tickets or turn on TV to watch the games.‎ C. Chinese people liked doing sports even in ancient times.‎ D. What fun it is to jump into a pool or lake, whether in China, Egypt or Italy!‎ E. Some sports or games date back thousands of years, like running or jumping.‎ F.
