Among very good friends, a woman may give another woman a little hug, and a man may kiss a woman quickly on the cheek. Males don't hug one another, which, however, is changing. Men usually shake hands with the right hand. Sometimes they use the left hand to either cover the handshake or lightly hold the other person’s arm. This shows greater warmth and friendship. Most people wave hello or good-bye by extending the palm(手掌) facing outward, and twisting the hand at the wrist. Another way is to raise the arm, palm outward, and move the whole arm and hand back and forth. This is important to know because in many other countries, the same movements mean “no”. When people are waiting in a public place, such as the post office, they usually form lines. Some people get angry and complain if someone pushes their way into a line or jumps ahead of other people. Moreover, many women like men to open doors for them. They also like men to give up their seats on public transportation. However, some women do not like this type of behavior. They feel that men and women should be treated in the same way. In the United States, it’s important to make direct eye contact in business and social situations. If you don’t make eye contact, people will probably think that you are bored or not interested. If there is silence in these situations, people usually try to make conversation. Periods of silence make many people uncomfortable. People in the United States usually stand about one arm's length away from each other while talking or standing together. This space is called “the comfort zone”. In the United States, mothers sometimes show that they are angry with children by shaking an index finger(食指) at them. People may show that they like children by patting them on the head. 24.It can be inferred from Paragraph 1 that in the United States _______. A.males begin to hug each other now B.a man usually kisses a woman for greeting C.people only use right hands to shake hands D.people wave good-bye as people in many other countries do 25.Some women don't like to be offered a seat by men because ________. A.they think sitting is harmful for health B.they prefer to stand rather than sit C.they like to be treated equally D.they don't need men's favor 26.The third paragraph is mainly about ________. A.body language in public places B.impolite body language C.the comfort zone D.body language in business and social life 27.In the United States, a mother sometimes shakes an index finger at her kids to show _______. A.boredom B.anger C.love D.satisfaction C I was just in France to visit my grandmother who is very dear to me. I don't get to cross the Atlantic very often, and she's now 96 years old, so every time I visit her, the two of us are very aware that it might be the last time we see each other. Last year, I did a series of short video interviews about her life. I asked her what it was like growing up with her father in the 1910s, and living alone with two young children. I asked her about her greatest memories, and her favorite books, foods, etc. I learned a lot of amazing new things about her I had never known before. These were very intimate conversations, which made me know her better. This year, I did not really have questions and I only had a great desire to make her know how much I loved her. I cooked for her and read her stories. I gave her a foot massage (按摩), which was her first ever! Before leaving, I was looking for a way to leave something meaningful behind besides the memory of our time together. Therefore, I wrote her five different love notes, and hid them in different places where I knew she would eventually find them. I left really joyously knowing that these cards would surely cheer her up after I left. She called me as I was travelling back to Paris to catch my plane back to the US and said, “I found your cards! By the time I discovered the last one, I was laughing out loud! Thank you so much, my sweetheart!” I smiled to myself, knowing she still had two more to go! It was Sunday, so my guess was that she had not checked her mailbox and had not yet driven her car! 28.Which of the following best explains “intimate” underlined in Paragraph 2? A.Close. B.Inspiring C.Impressive. D.Usual. 29.What can be inferred from the passage? A.The author went to France to visit her grandmother very frequently. B.The author didn't expect her grandmother to find all the five cards. C.The author and her grandmother enjoyed the time they stayed together. D.The author's home is not far from her grandmother's. 30.What do we know from the last paragraph? A.Grandmother found all the cards immediately the author left. B.Grandmother had not checked her mailbox before the call. C.Grandmother always calls the author before she gets on the airplane. D.Grandmother does exercises by finding the cards. 31.What might be the best title of the passage? A.The Wonderful Time with Grandmother B.The Meaningful Love Notes C.The Person Who Influences Me Most D.The Family Has an Old, a Treasure D Some students get so nervous before a test. They do poorly even if they know the material. Sian Beilock, a professor at the University of Chicago in Illinois, has studied these highly anxious testtakers. The students start worrying about the results. And when we worry, it actually uses up attention and memory resources (资源). Professor Beilock and another researcher, Gerardo Ramirez, have developed a possible solution. Just before an exam, highly anxious testtakers spend ten minutes writing about their worries about the test. The researchers tested the idea on a group of twenty anxious college students. They gave them two short math tests. After the first one, they asked the students to either sit quietly or write about their feelings about the upcoming second test. Professor Beilock says those who sat quietly scored (得分) an average of 12% worse on the second test. But the students who had written about their fears improved (提高) their performance by an average of 5%. Next, the researchers used younger students in a biology class. They told them before final exams either to write about their feelings or to think about things unrelated (不相关的) to the test. Professor Beilock says highly anxious students who did the writing got an average grade of B+, compared to a B-for those who did not. “What we showed is that for students who are highly testanxious, who'd done our writing intervention (干预), all of a sudden there was no relationship between test fear and performance. They were performing just as well as their classmates who don't normally get nervous in these tests.” But what if students do not have a chance to write about their fears immediately before an exam? Professor Beilock says students can try it themselves at home or in the library and still improve their performance. 32.What do the students start worrying about before an exam? A.Whether they can pass the exams. B.What other student do during the test. C.Whether they have remembered the materials. D.What kind of problems they will meet on the test paper. 33.What is the solution developed by researchers? A.Making the students focused on the test. B.Asking the students to sit quietly before the test. C.Having the students write about their worries about the test. D.Asking the students to direct the attention away from the test. 34.According to Professor Beilock, those who thought about things unrelated to the test ________. A.became less nervous before the test B.were better at controlling their feelings C.did better than those who wrote about their feelings D.did worse than those who wrote about their feelings 35.We can infer from the last paragraph that ________. A.writing about our worries before an exam can work a bit B.we can only write about our worries right before an exam C.the best place to write about our worries is in the test room D.it doesn't matter where we write about our worries before an exam 第二节 (共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Everyone knows that eating too much junk food is not good for our health, yet why junk food is so completely irresistible (无法抗拒的)?
