That's wrong.Language is for the exchange(交流)of ideas and information. It's meaningless knowing all about a language if you can't use it freely. Many students I have met know hundreds of grammar rules, but they can't speak correctly or fluently(流利地).They are afraid of making mistakes. One shouldn't be afraid of making mistakes when speaking a foreign language. Native speakers make mistakes and break rules, too.Bernard saw once - 13 -‎ ‎ wrote, "Foreigners often speak English too correctly."But the mistakes that native speakers make are different from those that Chinese students make. They're English mistakes in the English language. And if enough native speakers break a rule, it is no longer a rule. What used to be wrong becomes right.People not only make history, they make language. But a people can only make its own language. It can't make another people's language. So Chinese students of English should pay attention to grammar, but they shouldn't overdo(做过头)it. They should put communication first.‎ ‎21.Language is used to ________.‎ A. express oneself B. practise grammar rules C. talk with foreigners only D. learn lists of words ‎22.Generally, when an American or an Englishman speaks English, he ________.‎ A. never makes mistakes B. often makes mistakes C. can't avoid making mistakes D. always makes mistakes ‎23."Foreigners often speak English too correctly."This sentence means that ________.‎ A. foreigners speak correct English B. foreigners speak incorrect English C. foreigners speak English according to the grammar rules D. foreigners never make mistakes when they speak English ‎24.When we speak a foreign language, we should ________.‎ A. speak in Chinese way B. speak by the rules C. speak to native speakers D. not be afraid of making mistakes B Field Trip Day On Friday, May 16, our class will take a field trip to North Park Zoo. A photo competition guide - 13 -‎ C A new word has suddenly become wildly popular in China —"tuhao" — which loosely translated means "nouveau riche". There have been more than 100 million references to the word "tuhao" on social media since early September.‎ It's being used to describe everything from the new People's Daily building, to expensive celebrity weddings full of bling, and the new gold-coloured iPhone.‎ In Chinese "tu" means earth and "hao" means rich. To say someone is tuhao is to imply they come from a poor peasant background, and have made it rich quick — but don't quite have the manners, or sophistication to go along with it. It's like the term "nouveau riche", says Professor Steve Tsang at the School of Contemporary Chinese Studies in Nottingham - but has even more negative meanings, suggesting a certain vulgarity(粗俗).‎ ‎"Tuhao" is actually an old word, dating back perhaps as far as the Southern Dynasty 1,500 years ago, but it has always meant something rather different. During the communist revolution, from the 1920s to early 1950s, it was widely used to refer to landholders and gentry who would bully those beneath them.‎ This new usage of the term took off in September after a widely-shared joke about a rich, but unhappy man, who goes to a Buddhist monk for advice, expecting to be told to live a more simple life. The monk replies instead with the phrase: "Tuhao, let's be friends!"‎ Chinese Internet users are highly creative in their use of language, and are constantly inventing, and re-inventing words as a way of getting past censorship(审查) rules. But in this case, its popularity seems to be down to the fact that it expresses China's changing society so well — many people sneer at those with wealth, but are secretly jealous.‎ ‎28.What is the best title of the passage?‎ A. Tuhao, a new popular word in China B. The long history of Tuhao C. The new usage of Tuhao D. Tuhao, a newly-invented Chinese word ‎29.Which of the following may NOT be considered “tuhao”?‎ - 13 -‎ A. A vulgar nouveau riche B. A bully landholder C. A quick-rich peasant without proper manners D. A Buddhist monk.‎ ‎30.The last but one paragraph mainly tells us ______.‎ A. what the new usage of the word is B. how the word becomes popular again C. why the unhappy man went to the Buddhist monk D. what advice the monk gave the unhappy man ‎31.What does the underlined word in the last paragraph mean?‎ A. respect B. envy C. laugh D. disbelieve D There was once a captain who loved money so much that he cheated his sailors at the end of every voyage and took their wages.‎ On the last day of one voyage, the ship was in a small port. It was winter time, and the sea was very cold, so the captain said to his sailors, “If one of you stays in the water during the whole night, I will give him my ship. But if he comes out before the sun appears, I shall get his wages.”‎ The sailors had heard about the captain’s cheating, so they didn’t trust him. But then one of them, who thought that he was cleverer than the captain, said that he would do it. He got into the water, and, though it was very cold, he stayed in it. When it was nearly morning, some fishermen lit a fire on the shore about half a mile away.‎ ‎ “You are cheating,” the captain said to the sailor. “The fire’s warming you.”‎ ‎ “But it’s half a mile away! ”said the sailor.‎ ‎ “A fire’s fire,” answered the captain. “I have won.”‎ ‎ The sailor came out of the water, and said, “Perhaps you think that you are clever because you have won my wages, but you can’t cook a chicken.”‎ ‎ “I can, ”answered the captain.‎ ‎ “If you cook this chicken,” said the sailor, “I shall work for you without wages for seven years, but if you can’t, you will give me your ship.”‎ ‎ The captain agreed, took the chicken and said, “Where’s the fire?”‎ - 13 -‎ ‎ “There it is,” answered the sailor. “On the shore.”‎ ‎ “But it’s half a mile away,” said the captain angrily.‎ ‎“ ‘A fire’s fire’ you said,” answered the sailor. “If it is enough to warm me in the water, it is enough to cook your chicken.”‎ ‎32.The captain got the sailors’ wages ________.‎ A. to buy a chicken for himself B. and kept the money for future use C. by cheating him D. and said he would return the money soon ‎33.Which of the following statements is TRUE?‎ A.
