‎2019届二轮复习阅读理解专题记叙文类型模拟试题10篇训练之四十一 ‎[一]‎ Harry Potter lovers around the world may want to thank Alice Newton. She was eight years old when her father brought home a manuscript for her to read. At the time, he was working for Bloomsbury Publishing.‎ After reading the manuscript, Alice wrote a note to her father. “The excitement in this book made me feel warm inside,” she wrote. “I think it is probably one of the best books an 8-or 9-year-old could read.”‎ Based in part on Alice’s comments, Bloomsbury went on to publish Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone.‎ Alice’s note to her father is part of the British Library’s new exhibition, Harry Potter: A History of Magic. It celebrates the 20th anniversary of the publication of J.K. Rowling’s first book about Harry and his friends at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.‎ When Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone was released in 1997,Bloomsbury sent just 500 copies to stores in Britain and another 500 copies to British libraries.‎ Now, Harry and his friends are known worldwide.‎ The exhibit at the British Library in February includes Rowling’s outline for her books, her artwork of its characters and a map of the Hogwarts School. It also includes early versions of Rowling’s books that were rejected by other publishers.‎ The show has two rooms. They are divided up based on the subjects offered at Hogwarts. Areas include Potions, Herbology, Care of Magical Creatures and Defense Against the Dark Arts.‎ Each area describes the stories and beliefs that Rowling included in her books.‎ Included in the exhibition are discussions of alchemy, the European traditions that led to modern chemistry, and the Ripley Scroll—a six-meter-long document from the 1500s.It describes how to make a Philosopher’s Stone.‎ The British Library has already sold about 30,000 tickets to the exhibit—the most tickets ever sold for a British Library exhibition.‎ The show closed on February 28,2018.It then traveled to New York for the 20th anniversary of the release of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, the book’s title in the United States.‎ ‎【语篇导读】文章介绍了爱莉斯·牛顿与《哈利·波特与魔法石》的关系及在该书出版20周年时其作者在英国图书馆举办展览的情况。‎ ‎1. Lucky enters to win. I enter to get out of peeling potatoes for our Thanksgiving dinner at home.‎ The program this year took place last week as usual. Everything went along well in the morning. Lucky made a Mayflower and I made a Turkey.‎ However, when we got back after lunch, something unexpected happened. The mainsail of his Mayflower was lying on the table in a puddle of water. I glanced at my Turkey I had made. It had barely begun to melt!‎ ‎“What happened?” I asked. “Did you bump the table when you left?”‎ ‎“No! I just have rotten luck,” he wailed(哀叹),for the rest of the ship he had made began to melt too. “This can’t be just a case of bad luck,” I said, looking around for something that could have caused the destruction.‎ ‎“Something must have happened,” I said. Lucky’s eyes widened. “You think someone did this on purpose?”‎ I shrugged. “Maybe. It makes more sense than bad luck.”‎ Lucky peered around the room. “Hey,” he whispered. “That kid never left the room for the snack break. Maybe he smashed my Mayflower!”‎ I frowned. “I don’t know, Lucky. He doesn’t really seem the type.”‎ ‎“Haven’t you heard the saying ‘Looks can be deceiving’?” Lucky said, his voice rising. “He probably broke my ship while everyone was gone!” ‎ I stared at the ruined Mayflower and shook my head. “It doesn’t look broken, though. It looks more...disintegrated(使分解).Lucky, don’t jump to any...”‎ ‎“I’m telling on that kid!” Lucky interrupted. He charged off, his face as red as cranberry sauce.‎ ‎“...conclusions,” I said. With a sigh, I turned to the shipwreck and placed the melting mainsail back in its original spot. I held it there, thinking, until my fingers turned as cold as the ice.“Yeowch!” I said, dropping the mainsail and sticking my frozen fingers into my mouth.‎ It was in that instant that the puzzle was solved.‎ ‎【语篇导读】作者和Lucky午餐,发现他们制作的五月花和火鸡被破坏,场面一片狼藉,于是他们开始怀疑是“那个孩子”干的好事,但是,是这样吗?‎ ‎1. However, I wasn’t prepared for the people. Their stories impressed me long after I locked up for the night.‎ I always enjoyed reading the messages that went along with each bunch. Most were what you would expect, plenty of “I Love You” and “Get Well Soon”. We got “Happy Birthday” “Happy Anniversary” and “Thinking of You” requests that were written in shorthand—H.B.,H.A.,T.O.Y.‎ I would laugh at messages that seemed too sugary or boring, and it disheartened me when customers asked what their sympathy card should say. But I also understood that finding the right words could be a monumental task and that sometimes those words just happened to be the same ones everyone else was using.‎ I have sold flowers to single men and women, to color-blind fathers shopping with their precocious daughters, to new parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles and to couples celebrating 50 years. I’ve given flowers to homeless men who had in turn given them to pretty girls in summer dresses. People buy flowers when they’re in love, in trouble, drunk, devastated, excited and sometimes for no obvious reason.‎ I took photos of card messages and told my favorite shop stories to co-workers, family and friends, but still so much got away. Precious moments made all more precious by the fact that they had already come and gone. Now I gauge months by what’s in season: sunflowers in July, dahlias (大丽花)in August, roses and maple in October, pine in December, hyacinth(风信子) in March.‎ A favorite of mine is tulip magnolia(紫玉兰),the way the buds(花蕾) break into flowers and the flowers into many colors on lawns, all in a matter of weeks while it’s snowing cherry blossoms. How surprisingly beautiful the life of flowers can be!‎ ‎【语篇导读】作者在花店工作,顾客们购买鲜花赠送亲朋好友。他们的喜怒哀乐赋予鲜花不同的含义。这样的工作经历使作者明白了一个人生道理:鲜花使人们的生活更加美丽。‎ ‎1. For my parents it was a good thing because it meant owning a home for the first time. But it meant that I’d have to change schools and that put some butterflies in my stomach. ‎ On the first day of school, kids jammed the school grounds. That’s when I met Barbara. We made a nervous conversation and soon learned we were in the same class. She was funny and we had a lot in common. But she was very critical of others and sometimes of me. She made fun of my bushy hair, my big glasses and the clothes I wore. But it seemed as though the things we had in common were more important than the annoyances.‎ The girls in the “popular” crowd had also been exposed to her sharp tongue. One day, one of the girls approached me while I gathered my books. “We really like you,” she said. “The only way you can play with us, though,is if you keep your distance from Barbara.”‎ Were those girls only trying to make trouble between the two of us? Would they watch me dump (抛弃) Barbara and then dump me for laughs?‎ From the corner of my eye I found two of the other girls from the group. They were watching me and giggling (咯咯地笑).I wondered if I was cool enough for them. I didn’t want to make the choice they were forcing me to make. So I shook my head and said, “I don’t think so. Oh,the satisfaction in our young hearts—a green elephant tie!‎ With his glasses at the tip of his nose, he greeted us cheerfully, “Good morning, folks!” He was strange and unique and he brightened every day for us. He was the most dynamic teacher I had ever met.‎ I loved music, so I remembered how excited I was when he said he was going to give us music lessons. But when he turned on the music, my classmates and I slowly turned our heads toward the sound of Peter Paul and Mary singing If I Had a Hammer.‎ Snickers (窃笑) filled the room. If it wasn’t rap or hip hop, we didn’t recognize it. What were these people singing about? My classmates were not into this at all. But for me, a girl of 12,it was a discovery. By the time the group got up to leave, it was pouring outside. Welty’s new friends immediately sent a waiter to find a cab. Heading back downtown toward her hotel, her big-city friends were amazed at the turn of events that had changed their Big Apple dinner into a Mississippi state reunion(团聚).‎ ‎“My friend said: ‘Now we believe your stories,’” Welty added. “And I said: ‘Now you know. These are the people that make me write them.’”‎ Sitting on a sofa in her room, Welty,a slim figure in a simple gray dress, looked pleased with this explanation.‎ ‎“I don’t make them up,” she said of the characters in her fiction these last 50 or so years. “I don’t have to.”‎ Beauticians, bartenders, piano players and people with purple hats, Welty’s people come from afternoons spent visiting with old friends, from walks through the streets of her native Jackson, Miss., from conversations overheard on a bus. In those days, a brush was made from camel’s hair. There were no camels nearby. Benjamin decided that cat hair would work instead. He cut some fur from the family cat to make a brush.‎ The brush did not last long. Soon Benjamin needed more fur. Before long, the cat began to look ragged(蓬乱).His father said that the cat must be sick. Benjamin was forced to admit what he had been doing.‎ The cat’s lot was about to improve. That year, one of Benjamin’s cousins, Mr. Pennington, came to visit. He was impressed with Benjamin’s drawings. When he went home, he sent Benjamin a box of paint and some brushes. He also sent six engravings(版画) by an artist. These were the first pictures and first real paint and brushes Benjamin had ever seen. ‎ In 1747,when Benjamin was nine years old, Mr. Pennington returned for another visit. He was amazed at what Benjamin had done with his gift. He asked Benjamin’s parents if he might take the boy back to Philadelphia for a visit.‎ In the city, Mr. Pennington gave Benjamin materials for creating oil paintings. The boy began a landscape(风景) painting. William Williams, a well-known painter, came to see him work. Williams was impressed with Benjamin and gave him two classic books on painting to take home. The books were long and dull .Benjamin could read only a little, having been a poor student. But he later said, “Those two books were my companions by day, and under my pillow at night.” While it is likely that he understood very little of the books, they were his introduction to classical paintings. When the studio didn’t want me for the film — it wanted somebody as well known as Paul — he stood up for me.I don’t know how many people would have done that; they would have listened to their agents or the studio powers.‎ The friendship that grew out of the experience of making that film and The Sting four years later had its root in the fact that although there was an age difference, we both came from a tradition of theater and live TV. We were respectful of craft(技艺)and focused on digging into the characters we were going to play. Both of us had the qualities and virtues that are typical of American actors: humorous, aggressive, and making fun of each other — but always with an underlying affection. Those were also at the core (核心)of our relationship off the screen.‎ We shared the belief that if you’re fortunate enough to have success, you should put something back—he with his Newman’s Own food and his Hole in the Wall camps for kids who are seriously ill, and me with Sundance and the institute and the festival. Paul and I didn’t see each other all that regularly, but sharing that brought us together. We supported each other financially and by showing up at events.‎ I last saw him a few months ago. He’d been in and out of the hospital. He and I both knew what the deal was, and we didn’t talk about it. Ours was a relationship that didn’t need a lot of words.‎ ‎【语篇导读】作者通过回忆自己与好友的初次见面,两人友谊的发展,相同的性格,以及共同的信仰,来纪念这位好朋友。‎ ‎1. Why was the studio unwilling to give the role to the author at first?‎ A. Yet, I was determined to go ahead.‎ I remember back to my 7th year in school. In my first P.E. class, the teacher required us to run laps and then hit a softball. I didn’t do either well. He later informed me that I was “not athletic”.‎ The idea that I was “not athletic” stuck with me for years. When I started running in my 30s,I realized running was a battle against myself, not about competition or whether or not I was athletic. It was all about the battle against my own body and mind. A test of wills!‎ The night before my marathon, I dreamt that I couldn’t even find the finish line. I woke up sweating and nervous, but ready to prove something to myself.‎ Shortly after crossing the start line, my shoe laces(鞋带) became untied. So I stopped to readjust. Not the start I wanted!‎ At mile 3,I passed a sign: “GO FOR IT,RUNNERS!”‎ By mile 17,I became out of breath and the once injured ankle hurt badly. Despite the pain, I stayed the course walking a bit and then running again.‎ By mile 21,I was starving!‎ As I approached mile 23,I could see my wife waving a sign. She is my biggest fan. She never minded the alarm clock sounding at 4 a.m. or questioned my expenses on running.‎ I was one of the final runners to finish. But I finished! And I got a medal. In fact, I got the same medal as the one that the guy who came in first place had.‎ Determined to be myself, move forward, free of shame and worldly labels(世俗标签),I can now call myself a “marathon winner”.‎ ‎【语篇导读】介绍了作者第一次参加马拉松的经历。比赛前作者脚踝受伤,但依然坚持参加比赛,最终跑完了全程。通过这次经历,作者决心要做自己,不断向前。‎ ‎1.A month before the marathon, the author . ‎ A. was well trained B. felt scared C. made up his mind to run D. lost hope 答案 C解析 细节理解题。根据第一段最后一句“Yet, I was determined to go ahead.”可知,马拉松前一个月,作者脚踝受伤,两个星期不能跑,只剩下两周的训练时间,但作者依然决定要去参加赛跑。故选C项。‎ ‎2.
