While you can study abroad in France and focus on nearly any subject, it’s the students with a passion for the arts, architecture (建筑学) and history that rush to the country in the largest numbers. And that’s no shock, considering that France has been the center of the arts for centuries. As students of the arts, you will have to make careful use of your time, given all that France has to offer: ●Visit the Louvre to view the works of French artists such as Monet, Matisse and Renoir; ●Read the works of such French literary geniuses as Baudelaire, Proust and Voltaire; ●Listen to the music of Debussy, or more contemporary (当代的) artists like Air and Daft Punk. France is also a main destination for architecture students, as you will see architecture in nearly every style: ●The Gothic Chateau de Chambord, built in the 1500s; ●Place Dauphine built in 1607 in Baroque style; ●The post—modern housing development, Marne—la—Vallee. History students will find that France has been where the action is for quite some time. Over the course of the centuries, it has been the stage for the most important developments in the history of mankind, including the French Revolution, the rise of Napoleon and the rise of the Fifth Republic under President Charles de Gaulle. It was also the site of the D—Day invasion (诺曼底登陆) of World War II. As a possible study abroad location, France has a lot to offer, because the combination of educational institutions (教育机构), arts and culture, and national history are second to none. 21. What can we learn about studying abroad in France from the text? A. Few students choose to study in France. B. France is the best place for students who love the arts. C. Students from China are usually treated badly. D. There are many lectures and discussion classes. 22. What can art students do on weekends? A. View Monet’s works in the Louvre. B. Listen to Proust’s music. C. Read Renoir’s literary works. D. Enjoy Voltaire’s music. 23. The text is most likely taken from______. A. a history book B. an architecture advertisement C. a study abroad website D. a fashion magazine B It’s good to make mistakes, and here is why. First of all, mistakes are a clear sign that you are trying new things. It’s always good to try new things because when you are trying new things you are growing. If you never try anything new, how can you improve? How can you expand? The simple answer is “You can’t”. Look around you. With very few exceptions (例外), either everything you see in your physical world or every single detail of every single thing is the result of someone trying something new. Another good thing about mistakes is this: When you are making mistakes, you are learning. Consider this: Edison failed 10,000 times before he perfected the light bulb. When asked how it felt to fail that many times, he said that he hadn’t failed 10,000 times, but rather had learned 10,000 things that didn’t work. Finally, when you make a mistake you are much closer to success. Why? Because when all is said and done, you will have tried some number of things before you succeed. Every time you make a mistake, you eliminate one of those things and are one step closer. But this all doesn’t mean that you should go ahead without considering the consequences(后果) of a mistake. Quite the contrary, when you try something new you have to be willing to set some reasonable limits so that in the event that it doesn’t work out the way you want it to, you will be in a position to try again. We all have limited resources in the form of time and money so don’t blow them all on one approach to a problem. Realize that it probably won’t be perfect the first time and allocate (分配) these resources properly so you can learn, make corrections, and try it again. Only by accepting and using your mistakes in this way can you make significant advances in your business and your career. There is an old saying that goes, “If you’re not making mistakes, you’re not trying hard enough.” So go forth and make mistakes. And learn. And grow. And prosper(成功). 24. From the second paragraph, we can conclude that _______. 8 A.it’s common for people to make mistakes B.we are afraid of trying new things C.mistakes are better than not trying D.mistakes are unnecessary for development 25. The article is mainly about _______. A.how to deal with mistakes B.how to make use of your mistakes C.how to achieve success D.what benefits mistakes bring 26. What would the writer probably suggest we say to ourselves when we make a mistake? A.Never mind, I can always try hard to get it corrected. B.Great! Now I can learn something C.What a pity! How does it come about that I have made a mistake? D.I won’t mind the consequences of the mistake. Try again! C It's not right for an adult to leave a child locked in a parked car in the burning heat while they chat with a friend or do anything else without supervising their child. This kind of behavior is so wrong that states have even carried out laws allowing good citizens to rescue trapped kids. Unluckily one Georgia man learned that these laws aren't true to pets after he decided to save a dog and was arrested(逮捕). According to a story from USA Today, Michael Hammons, used his wife's wheelchair leg to break the window of a parked car after hearing from bystanders that there was a dog inside. One witness(目击者)told reporters that “if it is 80 degrees outside, within 30 minutes, it will be 114 degrees inside a car, even with the windows broken.” Bystanders had reportedly already phoned 911 before and were waiting for police to arrive, but for Hammons there was no time to lose. Police were forced to take action after the owner of both the dog and car came out of the store and requested police arrest Hammons. Oconee County Chief Deputy Lee Weems told USA Today, “We would not have made those charges on our own.” But the owner of the car insisted that Hammons be charged with criminal trespassing(非法入侵). The dog's owner said that she had only been gone five minutes, even though bystanders said it was actually much longer. No matter how long it actually was, the decision to leave her dog locked in a car in 80 degree weather wasn't a bright one on her part. Interestingly enough, USA Today reports that Georgia state law does allow a person to break a window to save a child in a hot or cold car, just not a pet. 27.What does the underlined word “supervising” in Paragraph 1 probably mean? A.Helping. B.Raising. C.Feeding. D.Watching. 28.The police arrested Hammons according to________. A.the Georgia state law B.a witness's words C.their own judgment D.the car owner's evidence 29.What do we know about Hammons? A.He was praised by his wife. B.He used a wheelchair to break the car window. C.He saved the dog at the request of bystanders. D.He knew the law well before the rescue. 30.What's the main idea of the text? A.A witness reported an accident to the police. B.A woman found her car broken. C.A dog was saved from a hot car.
