山东省微山县第二中学2018-2019学年高二上学期第三学段教学质量监测英语试题+Word版含答案
2018-2019学年度上学期第三学段教学质量监测 高二英语试卷 注意:本试卷共8页,满分100分,时间90分钟 第I卷 (共60分) 第一部分 阅读理解(共15小题,满分30分) A Martha Graham, born in 1894, was one of the most famous dancers and creators of dance, whose influence on dance has been compared with the influence Picasso had on the modern visual arts, Stravinsky had on music, or Frank Lloyd Wright had on architecture. She created almost two hundred dance pieces. She is often called the Mother of Modern Dance. Earlier in her life, however, Martha did not know that she would become a dancer. At that time, the dancers were looked down on. So Martha’s parents didn’t approve of her desire to dance at the beginning. Until 1916, she began her studies at the newly created Denishawn School of Dancing and Related Arts, founded by Ruth St. Denis and Ted Shawn, where Graham worked very hard to improve her ability to dance because she was considered too old to begin dancing. In 1936, Graham made her defining work, Chronicle, which signaled the beginning of a new era in modern dance. The dance brought serious issues to the stage for the general public in a dramatic manner. Influenced by the Wall Street Crash of 1929, the Great Depression that followed, and the Spanish Civil War, it focused on depression and isolation, reflected in the dark nature of both the set and costumes. Graham continued to dance past the age of seventy. Once again, she was met with criticism from people who came to watch her shows. But she didn’t give up. Her last completed ballet was 1990’s Maple Leaf Rag. A Dancer’s World is an introduction to Graham and her work. She tells about her dances and her dance group shows some of their methods. Martha Graham received many awards during her lifetime, including the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1976. She was the first dancer to receive the country’s highest civilian honor. She died in 1991. In 1998, Time magazine listed her as the “Dancer of the Century” and as one of the most important people of the twentieth century. 1. Some famous artists mentioned in Paragraph 1 show Martha Graham ________. A. had a great effect on modern dance B. was influenced greatly by them C. kept in touch with them regularly D. liked to make more friends with them 2. Why didn’t Martha’s parents approve of her desire to dance at first? A. She was too old to learn American dance. B. There was no academic school to teach dancing. C. Her family was too poor to afford her tuition. D. American dance was seen as a lower art form. 3. When Martha Graham continued to dance in her 70s, she ________. A. was warmly welcomed by the youth B. was attacked by people C. achieved huge success once again D. received many awards for her age 4. The text is mainly about ________. A. the background of modern dance in America B. the development of modern dance in America C. Martha Graham and her achievements in dance D. the awards Martha Graham won in her life B Art museums are places where people can learn about various cultures. The increasingly popular “design museums” that are opening today, however, perform quite a different role. Unlike most art museums, the design museums show objects that are easily found by the general public. These museums sometimes even place things like fridges and washing machines in the centre of the hall. People have argued that design museums are often made use of as advertisements for new industrial technology. But their role is not simply a matter of sales—it's the honouring of excellently invented products. The difference between the window of a department store and the showcase in a design museum is that the first tries to sell you something, while the second tells you the success of a sale. One advantage of design museums is that they are places where people feel familiar with the exhibits. Unlike the average art museum visitors, design museum visitors seldom feel frightened or puzzled. This is partly because design museums clearly show how and why mass-produced products work and look as they do, and how design has improved the quality of our lives. Art museum exhibits, on the other hand, would most probably fill visitors with a feeling that there is something beyond their understanding. In recent years, several new design museums have opened their doors. Each of these museums has tried to satisfy the public's growing interest in the field with new ideas. London's Design Museum, for example, shows a collection of mass-produced objects from Zippo lighters to electric typewriters to a group of Italian fish-tins. The choices open to design museums seem far less strict than those to art museums, and visitors may also sense the humorous part of our society while walking around the exhibits. 5. Showcases in design museums are different from store windows because they____. A. show more technologically advanced products B. show why the products have sold well C. help increase the sales of products D. attract more people than store windows do 6. The author believes that most design museum visitors ____. A. know the exhibits very well B. do not like mass-produced products C. are puzzled with technological exhibits D. dislike exhibits in art museums 7. The choices open to design museums ____. A. are not aimed at interesting the public B. may fail to bring some pleasure to visitors C. may fail to attract more visitors A. are not as strict as those to art museums 5. What is the best title for this passage? A. The forms of design museums B. The exhibits of design museums C. The nature of design museums D. The choices open to design museums C While famous foreign architects are invited to lead the designs of landmark buildings in China such as the new CCTV tower and the National Center for the Performing Arts, many excellent Chinese architects are making great efforts to take the center stage. Their efforts have been proven fruitful. Wang Shu, a 49-year-old Chinese architect, won the 2012 Pritzker Architecture Prize—which is often referred to as the Nobel Prize in architecture—on February 28. He is the first Chinese citizen to win this award. Wang serves as head of the Architecture Department at the China Academy of Art (CAA). His office is located at the Xiangshan campus (校园) of the university in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province. Many buildings on the campus are his original creations. The style of the campus is quite different from that of most Chinese universities. Many visitors were amazed by the complex architectural space and abundant building types. The curves (曲线) of the buildings perfectly match the rise and fall of hills, forming a unique view. Wang collected more than 7 million abandoned bricks of different ages. He asked the workers to use traditional techniques to make the bricks into walls, roofs and corridors. This creation attracted a lot of attention thanks to its mixture of modern and traditional Chinese elements (元素). Wang's works show a deep understanding of modern architecture and a good knowledge of traditions. Through such a balance, he had created a new type of Chinese architecture, said Tadao Ando, the winner of the 1995 Pritzker Prize. Wang believes traditions should not be sealed in glass boxes at museums. “That is only evidence that traditions once existed, ” he said. “Many Chinese people have a misunderstanding of traditions. They think tradition means old things from the past. In fact, tradition also refers to the things that have been developing and that are still being created,” he said. “Today, many Chinese people are learning Western styles and theories rather than focusing on Chinese traditions. Many people tend to talk about traditions without knowing what they really are, ” said Wang. The study of traditions should be combined with practice.Otherwise, the recreation of traditions would be artificial and empty, he said. 5. Wang's winning of the prize means that Chinese architects are ____. A. following the latest world trend B. working harder than ever before C. getting international recognition D. relying on foreign architects 6. What impressed visitors to the CAA Xiangshan campus most? A. Its hilly environment. B. Its unique style. C. Its large size. D. Its diverse functions. 7. What made Wang's architectural design a success? A. The harmony of old and new. B. The mixture of different shapes. C. The balance of East and West. D. The use of popular techniques. 8. What should we do about Chinese traditions according to Wang? A. Spread them to the world. B. Preserve them at museums. C. Teach them in universities. D. Recreate them in practice.
