In order to repair the house, a Japanese tore open the walls. Japanese houses normally have an empty space between the wooden walls. When pulling down the walls, he found that there was a lizard(蜥蜴) staying there because a nail(钉子) from outside was hammered into one of its feet. He saw this, feeling pity and curious. When he checked the nail, he found it was nailed 10 years ago when the house was first built. What happened? The lizard had survived in such a position for 10 years! It has been in a dark wall partition(夹层) for 10 years without moving! Then he wondered how this lizard survived for 10 years without moving a single step—since its foot was nailed! So he stopped his work and observed the lizard: What had it been doing? What and how had it been eating? Later, he didn't know from where another lizard appeared, with food in its mouth. Ah! He was astonished and touched deeply. The free lizard had been feeding it for the past 10 years. Such love, a beautiful love! Such love happened with this tiny creature… what can love do? It can do wonders! Just think about it: One lizard had been feeding the other for 10 long years, without giving up hope on its partner. If a small creature like a lizard can love like this, just imagine how we can love if we try. 25. How did the Japanese feel when seeing the lizard there? A、Frightened B、Enjoyable C、Confused D、Usual 26. Why did the Japanese stop his work? A、To watch how long the lizard can still live here. B、To take out the nail and set the lizard free. C、To have a rest by watching the lizard. D、To find out why the lizard had survived there for 10 years. 27. What can we learn from the free lizard? A、It teaches us never to give up our loved ones. B、It teaches us to give more help to our loved ones. C、It tells us to take pity on the stuck lizard. D、It encourages us to live even longer. C Susannah was a shy but clever girl. She had worn glasses for as long as she could remember. And again, for as long as she could remember, some of her classmates had habitually picked on her. The worst thing was that Lewis called her “Four Eyes”. She acted like she didn't mind, but in fact Susannah couldn’t stand it One day, the class went on a school outing to visit some famous caves. The children were walking towards the caves, while Lewis slipped. While falling, he grabbed onto Susannah, who walked next to him, and both fell down the hole. They landed in a dark cave. All that could be seen was a single ray of light coming from the cave roof, many metres above, and some tree roots and trunks which had fallen through the hole. Susannah and Lewis shouted for help, but no one came. The next morning they still hadn’t been found and Lewis continued shouting for help, but no response and he started feeling scared. It must have been noontime, because Susannah noticed that the ray of light just landed on the floor in front of her. Quickly, she took a piece of wood that had fallen into the cave, and, using her glasses as a magnifying (放大) glass, she focused the ray of light onto the wood until a little fame sprang up. Now they had a torch(火把) . Lewis watched with surprise and excitement and then they went to explore the cave It took them some time, and they had to burn quite a few torches, but finally they found a way out. Amid (在其中) hugs and cries of relief, Lewis gave Susannah his heartfelt thanks. 28. What does the underlined part "pick on"(in Para. 1) probably mean ? A. Pick up B Catch on C. Get rid of D Make fun of. 29. Why did Lewis watch with surprise when Susannah made the torch? A. He never thought Susannah disliked him B. He never thought Susannah could see the light C. He never thought Susannah was so calm and clever D. He never thought Susannah could keep him company 30. What can we know from the passage? A. Susannah slipped and fell down the hole. B. Susannah was pulled down the hole by Lewis. C. They stayed in the cave for three days and two nights. D. They were saved by their classmates and teachers. 31. What can we infer from the passage? A. Susannah can't forgive Lewis for his misbehaviour. B. Most students like to play jokes about Susannah wearing glasses. C. Lewis is a shy boy and didn't get along well with others. D. Lewis would never play tricks on others disabilities again. D In general, people talk about two groups of colors: warm colors and cool colors. Researchers in psychology think that there are also two groups of people: people who prefer warm colors and people who prefer cool colors. The warm colors are red, orange and yellow. Where there are warm colors and a lot of light, people usually want to be active. People think that red, for example, is exciting. Sociable people, who like to be with others, like red. The cool colors are green, blue and violet. These colors, unlike warm colors, are relaxing. Where there are cool colors, people are usually quiet. People who like to spend time alone often prefer blue. Red may be exciting, but one researcher says that time seems to pass more slowly in a room with warm colors than in a room with cool colors. He suggests that a warm color, such as red or orange is a good color for a living room or restaurant. People who are relaxing or eating do not want time to pass quickly. Cool colors are better for offices or factories if the people who are working there want time to pass quickly. Researchers do not know why people think some colors are warm and other colors are cool. However, almost everyone agrees that red, orange, and yellow are warm and that green, blue, and violet are cool. Perhaps warm colors remind people of warm days and the cool colors remind them of cool days. Because in the north the sun is higher during summer, the hot summer sunlight appears yellow. 32.Which of the following colors belong to cool colors? A.Blue, violet and green. B.Yellow, green and violet. C.Black, blue and red . D.Brown, white and orange. 33. Which of the following statements is NOT true? A.Sociable people like warm colors. B.Cool colors can make people relaxed. C.People who like to be spend time alone don’t like blue. D.Where there are warm colors, people want to be active. 34.Which is the right color for different rooms? A.Red or orange for offices. B.Orange for dining-rooms. C.Blue for bedrooms.
