Unfortunately, in this modern world, we have become confused by very narrow standards ‎ of beauty. Images of stars who never seem to age are seen everywhere these days. We forget the fact that most of these images are the result of super photo manipulation (处理), driven by the extremely powerful beauty industry. We are all different — why should we all look the same? Isn’t there more to life than having surgery in order to have the same boring face that everybody else wants to have?‎ ‎—Dr Elisabeth McKenna, Psychologist Yes, it’s not real! That’s what I told my friends when they started asking me about my nose job. I’d always been sensitive to my nose, but it took me a long time before I decided to go for cosmetic surgery. I took advice from several doctors and after careful consideration I finally decided to have it done. I had been saving money from my part-time job and my parents helped me out with the rest. It was quite expensive but I don’t regret a penny of it. In fact I wish I’d had it done a few years ago. I’ m sure I wouldn’t have been laughed at so much at school.‎ ‎—Debbie Caron, Student It makes me really angry to think of the millions of people who spend much money on cosmetic surgery. Surgery should be carried out for medical purposes, not vanity (虚荣心). I would rather all the money spent on cosmetic surgery was used to treat people around the world who are in need but can’t get proper medical treatment. Furthermore, there are thousands of under-qualified doctors out there who only care about getting as rich as possible as quickly as possible. They don’t care about the psychological and physical damage they do. The whole industry makes me sick. We should do something to stop it.‎ ‎—Danny Glass, Student ‎21. What does Dr Elisabeth McKenna suggest?‎ A. Don’t be fooled by “perfection”. B. Cosmetic surgery often goes wrong.‎ C. The beauty industry needs improving. D. It’s unnecessary to set new standards of beauty.‎ ‎22. What did Debbie Caron’s cosmetic surgery bring to her?‎ A. More friends. B. More worries.‎ C. More self-confidence. D. More job opportunities.‎ ‎23. How does Danny Glass feel about those who have cosmetic surgery?‎ A. They should be treated as patients. B. They hurt themselves psychologically and physically.‎ C. They can have a new start. D. They waste money and medical resources.‎ ‎【答案】21. A 22. C 23. 根据第一段中的“Images of stars who never seem to age are seen everywhere these daysWe forget the fact that most of these images are the result of super photo manipulation (处理), driven by the extremely powerful beauty industry.” 根据Debbie Caron 所说的“It was quite expensive but I don’t regret a penny of it. In fact I wish I’d had it done a few years ago. I’ m sure I wouldn’t have been laughed at so much at school.” 根据Danny Glass所说的“It makes me really angry to think of the millions of people who spend much money on cosmetic surgery. … I would rather all the money spent on cosmetic surgery was used to treat people around the world who are in need but can’t get proper medical treatment” 想到在整容手术上花几百万的人,我真的很生气…。 ‎ B About 150 years ago, a village church priest, Patric Bronte, in Yorkshire, England, had three lovely, intelligent daughters but his hopes fell entirely on the only male ‎ successor, Branwell, a youth with remarkable talent in both art and literature.‎ Branwell’s father and sisters saved their pennies to pack him off to London’s Royal Academy of Arts, but if art was his calling, he dialed a wrong number. Within weeks he ended up going back home, a penniless failure.‎ Hopes still high, the family landed Branwell a job as a private tutor, hoping this would free him to develop his literary skills and achieve the success and fame that he deserved. Failure again.‎ Still, the selfless sisters set aside their own goals, farming themselves out as teachers and governesses in support of their increasingly indebted brother, convinced the world must eventually recognize his genius. As failure multiplied, Branwell turned to alcohol, then opium, and eventually died as he had lived: a failure. So died hope in the one male — but what of the three sisters?‎ During Branwell’s last years, the girls published a book of poetry at their own expense (under a pen name, for fear of reviewers’ prejudice against females). Even Branwell might have laughed: they sold only two copies.‎ They didn’t give up. Instead, they continued in their spare time, late at night by candlelight, to pour out their contained emotion, writing of what they knew best, of women in conflict with their natural desires and social condition, in reality, less fiction than autobiography! And 19th century literature was transformed by Anne’s Agnes Grey, Emily’s Wuthering Heights, and Charlotte’s Jane Eyre.‎ But years of sacrifice for Branwell had eventually ruined their health. Emily took ill at her brother’s funeral and died within 3 months, aged 29; Anne died 5 months later, aged 30; Charlotte lived only to age 39. If only they had been highly thought of instead of sacrificed.‎ No one remembers Branwell’s name, much less of his art or literature, but the Bronte sisters’ tragically short lives teach us even more of life than literature.‎ ‎24. What might lead to the sad ending of the three Bronte sisters?‎ A. That to be a writer was a really tough road to go.‎ B. The social prejudice against women in those days.‎ C. Their poor family.‎ D. The failure of their brother.‎ ‎25. What does the underlined part probably mean in paragraph 2 ?‎ A. He gave a wrong call to a person. B. He shouldn’t have spent much on art.‎ C. He was not talented in art at all. D. He was actually not promising on the way of art.‎ ‎26. According to the passage, what can be inferred from the story of Branwell?‎ A. Gift is not necessarily a guarantee of success.‎ B. Gift is a burden for a person.‎ C. A person’s success is largely due to the support of his family.‎ D. Too many choices may lead to success in none.‎ ‎27. Were Patric Bronte alive, what might he regret most?‎ A. Not taking good care of his children.‎ B. Intending his son for an artist or a writer.‎ C. Putting all of his eggs in one male basket.‎ D. Sacrificing too many pennies for his son.‎ ‎【答案】24. B 25. D 26. A 27. 根据第一段中的“ad three lovely, intelligent daughters but his hopes fell entirely on the only male successor,”可知这三个女儿很聪明,但是全部的希望都放在了唯一的儿子身上。第五段中的“under a pen name, for fear of reviewers’ prejudice against females Even Branwell might have laughed: they sold only two copies.” 根据第二段中的“Branwell’s father and sisters saved their pennies to pack him off to London’s Royal Academy of Arts, but if art was his calling, he dialed a wrong number. Within weeks he ended up going back home, a penniless failure.” 文章第一段中提到“Branwell, a youth with remarkable talent in both art and literature.” 但第四段“As failure multiplied, Branwell turned to alcohol, then opium, and eventually died as he had lived: a failure. ‎ C The end of the school year is in sight — Christmas cards, candy canes and of course, end of year reports.‎ While most parents welcome an assessment of their kids’ performance, they do not expect their own input to be evaluated. But a school in the UK is changing that. As well as assessing their students, they are dishing out grades to mums and dads. Parents that are really involved in their kids’ education are rewarded with an A, and parents that haven’t done their bit get a disappointing D.‎ The school, Greasley Beauvale Primary in Nottinghamshire, uses standard such as whether mums and dads have attended school events such as plays and parent teacher evenings to decide on the grade. The school’s principal, Donna Chambers, said that the scheme had been well received.‎ ‎“There were some critics. In spite of it, between 15 per cent and 20 per cent of parents started out in the lower categories but now that has been reduced to just two per cent,” she explained.‎ Chambers hopes that the scheme will help motivate parental involvement. “The system is important because you have got to get the parents on board from day one.‎ ‎ That one hour initial conversation saying they could improve will make a difference to the rest of that child’s academic life”, she said.‎ But while the scheme may be well intentioned, it is likely to be connected with parent shaming. There are lots of reasons why some mums and dads might not be involved in school activities such as work commitments, looking after younger children or caring for elderly relatives.‎ And of course, being involved in your kid’s education doesn’t begin and end at school. There is a lot that goes on behind the scenes from helping with homework to keeping uniforms freshly laundered. And what about all the parents who stayed up sewing special costumes at the last minute? Surely that earns a gold star instead of a grade!‎ ‎28. What do schools usually do at the end of the school year?‎ A. Evaluating kids’ performances. B. Making Christmas cards.‎ C. Dividing candies. D. Grading parents.‎ ‎29. What does the school’s principal Chambers say about the scheme?‎ A. It uses a new way to evaluate kids.‎ B. It has gained much acceptance.‎ C. It gives parents further education.‎ D. It improves kids’ motivation for learning.‎ ‎30. What does the author think of parents being involved in kids’ education?‎ A. It adds to parents’ burden.‎ B. It brings shame to parents.‎ C. It means far more than being graded.‎ D. It increases parents’ commitment to education.‎ ‎31. What is the passage mainly about?‎ A. There is too much stress for parents about their children’s academic life.‎ B. Parents as well as their children are on the list of the year school report.‎ C. Parents should be involved in children’s school life.‎ D. Whether a parent is excellent depends on the grade he gets.‎ ‎【答案】28. A 29. B 30. C 31. 根据第一段可知在学年结束时有年终报告书,在第二段中“While most parents welcome an assessment of their kids’ performance, they do not expect their own input to be evaluated.” 故选A。‎ ‎29. The school’s principal, Donna Chambers, said that the scheme had been well received. The school’s principal, Donna Chambers, said that the scheme had been well received. What does the school’s principal Chambers say about the scheme?‎ If you travel to a tropical country, _____.☞文章内容The school’s principal, Donna Chambers, said that the scheme had been well received.‎ ‎【答案】had been well received.☞ B选项It has gained much acceptance.☞关键词 well received和gained much acceptance。 如本题中把动词had been well received.转述为has gained much acceptance,其实意思是没有变化。‎ ‎30. ‎ ‎31. The bees, spotting the food beneath the screen, learned to pull the “flowers” out by pulling the string with their legs and feet to be able to get to it.‎ From another group of bees given the chance to solve the task without any training, only two of 110 were successful.‎ Another group of bees was then allowed to observe the trained bees pulling the strings, and 60 percent of them successfully learned the skill. Finally, trained bees were put in groups, and the scientists found the technique spread successfully to a majority of the group’s worker bees.‎ Lars Chittka, a Queen Mary University professor who guided the project, said the team is interested in figuring out the brain processes behind the bees’ learning and teaching skills.‎ ‎32. Which of the following is the closest in meaning to the underlined word “exclusive” in Paragraph 3?‎ A. appropriate. B. unique. C. beneficial. D. widespread.‎ ‎33. What did the researchers find about bees?‎ A. Bees learn best in insects. B. Bees are as clever as birds.‎ C. Bees are born good learners. D. Bees can be trained to learn skills.‎ ‎34. What may the research team focus on next?‎ A. What else bees can do. B. Where bees learn skills.‎ C. How bees teach others. D. How bees’ brain work.‎ ‎35. What may be the best title for the text?‎ A. Small bees, great abilities. B. Bees can learn and teach.‎ C. Bees are smarter. D. Let bees learn.‎ ‎【答案】32. B 33. D 34. D 35. Having been exposed ‎ ‎62. on 63. what ‎ ‎64. are 65. yourself ‎ ‎66. probably ‎ ‎67. anxious ‎ ‎68. be needed ‎ ‎69. strengthen ‎ ‎70. that ‎【解析】 本文主要介绍为何很难戒烟,以及如何戒烟。‎ ‎61. expose…to… 分析句子可知,expose的逻辑主语是you,使你接触,要用被动,根据时间状语“for a long time,”可知要用完成时,故用Having been exposed.‎ ‎62. on ‎ ‎ 考查固定搭配。Have an/the effect on…,为固定搭配,意为“对… And the effects it has _____2____是个定语从句。 分析句子do you know ____3____ it is可知know后的 ____3____ it is是个宾语从句,而宾语从句中缺少了表语,缺少表语,要用what。 分析句子quantities of nicotine you get into your body __4__ the source of your physical addiction. 分析句子可知帮助help是被需要,故用(should)+be needed,因此填be needed。 如 ‎ He insisted that I (should) go with them. ‎ He ordered that it (should) be sent back. ‎ The doctor advised [suggested] that he (should) not smoke. ‎ He requires that I (should) appear. It was proposed that this matter be discussed next time. ‎ It is suggested that the meeting ( should ) be put off. ‎ It was ordered that we ( should ) arrive there in two hours. 分析句子可知,动词不定式to strengthen your resolve… depend on it that… 所以填that。 ‎ 动词/动词短语it that ……后面depend on/count on/rely on/ see to等这些词组是带介词的动词短语,不能直接接that引导的宾语从句。 that ‎…… 这样的句式还有 ‎1. sb. depend on/count on/rely on/ see to(负责,确保) / answer for it that…‎ 如:You may rely on it that he won’t be late.‎ ‎ You must see to it that the doors are locked before you leave the lab.‎ ‎2. I really appreciate it if you could help me with my math.‎ ‎ 3. 主语+hate / dislike / love / like +it + when-从句 如:I hate it when people speak with their mouths full.‎ ‎4.sb. take it for granted that… I take it for granted that he will succeed.‎ 第四部分:写作(共两节;满分35分)‎ 第一节:短文改错(共10小题;每小题1分,满分10分)‎ ‎71. ‎ There is little doubt that whether it is human activity rather than natural phenomena that have caused global warming. It is largely due to the burning of the fossile fuels ranged from gas to oil. And almost all scientists subscribe to a view above. Besides, their attitudes towards this rise are absolute different. On one hand, some think if there is not such a rise, plants would not grow quicker and crops would not produce more. On the other hand, those opposed to the view thought that it is very serious. In their opinion, any trend in that the temperature increases by 5 degrees will lead to a catastrophe. In spite of this, that doesn’t mean we can do nothing . With our natural resources running out, we should do what we can protect our earth!‎ ‎【答案】去掉whether ‎ have 改成has ‎ ranged 改成ranging ‎ a改成the ‎ Besides 改成 However ‎ absolute 改成 absolutely ‎ is 改成were ‎ thought改成think ‎ that改成which ‎ can后加to ‎【解析】1. There is no/little doubt that…,为固定句式,意为“….. 根据下句“plants would not grow quicker and crops would not produce more.” 分析句子any trend in that the temperature increases by 5 degrees will lead to a catastrophe. 例如:‎ ‎ The project , which lasted four years, cost one billion dollars. 例: ‎ He may come, in which case I'll ask him. 他也许会来,来了我就问他 ‎ This is the house in which we lived three years ago. ‎ 注意: 如果介词不放在修饰事物的限定性定语从句的句首,which就可换为that,例如:‎ ‎ This is the question which/that we’ve had so much discussion about. =This is the question about which we’ve had so much discussion. 分析句子可知,to protect our earth保护我们的地球是目的,故要在can后加to。 ‎ ‎3. 参考词汇:校园 campus Dear Nick,‎ How are things going?
